This is The GPL Podcast, part of the Pulltab Sports family.
0:13
That was a hot take, by the way.
0:19
What's that?
0:20
I don't know if I have a rebuttal for you on that one, but that is a hot take, that they'd make the tournament.
0:25
That could be a preposterous statement.
0:28
Put him in the Atlantic, and they win the conference.
0:33
He's moving the goalpost.
0:34
They can beat him in the third prize.
0:37
My gosh, it's unbelievable.
0:40
Got you.
0:41
I didn't even know that.
0:42
Blame it on Don.
0:47
Now, here's Jupiter and Vegoe.
1:02
Good evening, and welcome to The GPL Podcast, episode number 276.
1:10
What a weekend, Veegs, what a weekend.
1:13
Yeah, I mean, I think we're looking for some answers out of this Gopher squad against how they do against a top team.
1:20
And they just blew them out of the building for the weekend.
1:24
You know, they played a up and down game on Friday and got all the goals and then a tighter game on Saturday, and they answered the bell.
1:32
Double shutouts, that's quite amazing.
1:35
Well, I figured we've been having all these guys on.
1:38
We haven't had Eric Schierhorn on yet this season.
1:41
He's calling games this weekend with Sam Rossini, last week's guest.
1:46
So it'll be a three person squad this weekend, which should be fun, but let's bring him in.
1:51
Eric Schierhorn, welcome back to the show, man.
1:55
Yeah, thank you guys.
1:56
I didn't know I got my own highlight package.
1:58
That's kind of cool.
1:59
Yeah, you do have your own highlight package.
2:01
I don't know.
2:02
Am I a recurring guest now?
2:04
Like am I, I got to be up there on appearances.
2:07
This is like four or whatever, five.
2:10
Now you're ahead of Ramsey, too.
2:12
So that's why we, it was kind of a, the headline was kind of ripping on Ramsey on those little clips there.
2:18
Yeah, well, that's good.
2:20
We got to keep him humble.
2:21
I'm happy to be ahead of him on appearances though.
2:24
That makes me feel good.
2:27
Double shutouts.
2:29
That was quite amazing this past weekend, Eric.
2:32
Yeah.
2:33
I mean, that's always fun.
2:35
The thing that I thought was good and repeatable about that is that, you know, I mean, you always got to work hard for a shutout, but I didn't think they had to steal a game.
2:48
You know what I mean?
2:49
Like you didn't leave either of those games saying that Airy or Suley air was the sole reason why they won.
2:57
I mean, anytime you get a shutout, yeah, it's a big deal for the goalie and they're contributing their part.
3:03
But it wasn't like, you know, they got out shot 40 to 20 and they made, you know, 20, 10 bell saves kind of thing, which I think is good and bad.
3:13
The goalie is doing their job, but also the Team D is solid.
3:18
And that's something that they can do for a number of games.
3:20
And they're not just skating by on luck kind of thing.
3:24
And Veegs, you know, we talk about shutouts for both Airy and Suley air.
3:29
Everyone's like, oh, Suley air, he wasn't really that good the last couple of seasons.
3:33
Well, he's leading the country in goals against average right now.
3:37
He's playing pretty much every other game.
3:40
And he's got a much better team defense in front of him.
3:45
Yeah, I think at Penn State, you know, it's such a roller coaster team to play in front of it.
3:50
It's got to be a huge challenge for him playing with Minnesota.
3:53
He can be real direct and clear on his reads and make the saves that he's supposed to make.
3:59
I think this year's team is so talented top to bottom.
4:02
They're so steady.
4:03
They're so even.
4:04
They don't give up a ton of weird rushes.
4:07
They're not going to have bad turnovers it looks like this year.
4:10
So you just need some steady goaltending behind you.
4:13
And that's what both goalies are delivering right now.
4:16
I know Bob's been joking that the media is trying to create a controversy.
4:20
And he's just like, I can't screw this up.
4:22
Both guys are playing really well.
4:24
I can't imagine if Jess Myers was around this year.
4:30
He might get the Bob going even more.
4:32
It could be a little tense, but different media members are stepping up.
4:36
And putting Bob in the crossfire and Bob's firing right back.
4:40
So it's fun so far.
4:41
I believe it was Royce this week who kind of got him going.
4:47
But it's a great situation to be in.
4:48
Both goalies are steady.
4:49
They do it in different ways, but they're they're both playing well.
4:52
And Eric, that's also an area we thought they might be a bit deficient at this season.
4:58
Granted, maybe they haven't been as challenged as much.
5:01
You haven't had to win a game, like you said.
5:02
But the guys in front of them are playing so well.
5:05
And boy, a goalie just loves that.
5:08
Yeah.
5:09
Yeah.
5:10
There's no doubt about that.
5:12
No, I mean, I think they have obviously a good enough team to where it doesn't seem like they need to have a world-beater in net.
5:19
At least it's been that way so far this season.
5:23
And if you compare it to NHL, it's kind of like when the Abbs won the Cup, we'll call it.
5:30
You know, they had Kemper in that.
5:31
Kemper's not, you know, he's not a Vezina winner.
5:35
He didn't win the Kahn Smythe.
5:36
He wasn't, no one looks back on that Stanley Cup and says Kemper won it for him, but he was good enough to get them there.
5:43
He was good enough in that final series against Tampa to win it.
5:48
And I mean, that's always a little nerve-racking going into the playoffs.
5:53
It's like you want a guy who's, I mean, even if you look at Michigan State, like this Augustine guy, like that guy's a stud.
6:00
It certainly doesn't hurt to have that on your squad.
6:02
But again, this team might just be good enough to where they don't need a top five goalie in the country to, you know, reach their goals frozen for and contend for national championship.
6:15
So if that's what it is, I mean, hey, there's nothing wrong with that.
6:20
Being some of us older people heard a lot of this back in 2001 and 2002.
6:25
Adam Hauser, he's just, no, he's not going to be the goalie.
6:29
No way.
6:31
Well, I think the biggest thing with a goalie is what's the mental makeup.
6:35
And looking back on the season, when the coaching staff decided to give Aerie that second game at Notre Dame, I think it was almost because he didn't play his best in that game.
6:47
And the coaching staff said, all right, let's see what we got here.
6:50
Do we have a goalie who's mentally strong enough to recover?
6:53
Or is he going to do what Darcy Kemper did when he was with the Wild and just kind of go downhill like a roller coaster?
7:01
You know, and just get in the dumps, mentally struggle, or is this someone who's resilient, who we can count on to bounce back when they don't really perform at the level they expect?
7:11
And I think that more than anything is why he got those back to back games was just to see what they had.
7:17
Now, Bob's obviously split the net the last couple of weekends after that, but I think that was a test for the goaltending.
7:25
Interesting thoughts, what do you think about that, Eric?
7:28
Yeah, I mean, to me, that was the coaching staff or Bob, if you want to say, because obviously it's him making the ultimate decision, but that was them kind of saying that Aries are a guy, which I don't think that's much of a secret.
7:44
I mean, you got a sophomore who was a stud and junior.
7:48
We got a fifth year who was okay at Penn State, but played on a bad team.
7:52
So I don't think you can really discredit him for his numbers, so to speak, in the years that he played at Penn State.
7:59
But it's like, okay, this is our guy.
8:02
We think that we're going to go with him come March, and we want to give him that confidence, and we want to give him a test for that.
8:12
So that's what I saw.
8:13
And I think there's nothing wrong with that.
8:15
I mean, you got to keep it fair so that there's not murmurs in the dressing room, like, hey, Solier is playing great, and they're just spoon feeding this guy starts.
8:26
But at the same time, I would assume that everyone in that dressing room is kind of aware that, hey, Aerie is the leader in the clubhouse now, and we're going to ride him in the future, so why not get him a little prepped for some of these situations now, as opposed to throwing him into the fire and back to back in, say, February, March, Big Ten tournament, NCAA tournament kind of thing.
8:50
So I think it was, like Vegs said, a little bit of a test early on to see how he handled it.
8:56
And Vegs, it seems like both of these goalies at least publicly don't mind at all because they really support one another.
9:06
Yeah, you know, Aerie gets the shutout, Sulear goes, grabs the puck right away.
9:09
Oh, he jumped over the boards to get the puck.
9:12
You know, Sulear congratulates Aerie, and Aerie says, all right, now it's your turn tomorrow night.
9:17
You know, it's definitely like a friendly relationship for teammates rather than a rivalry that some people might think it could be.
9:25
So it seems like it's working out in both are figuring out their roles.
9:30
So we get the shutout of Michigan, obviously, huge Veegs.
9:34
They haven't lost the game in the Big Ten.
9:36
They've only lost one point in the Big Ten.
9:39
Michigan State kind of faltered a bit there at Wisconsin.
9:42
Maybe Wisconsin is waking up, which would be good for the league if they could.
9:47
But all around a good weekend from outside of Minnesota as well.
9:52
Yeah, a couple of the top teams losing allows Minnesota to become the number one team in the USCJ poll and my top 20.
10:01
I think the one thing holding Minnesota back was their strength of schedule so far.
10:05
And they faced a tough test.
10:06
They come out on top.
10:07
All some of these other teams have maybe played tougher schedules, but they're dropping games now.
10:12
And we'll see it.
10:13
You know, you look in the pairwise Minnesota's in great spot for a number one seed.
10:17
Yeah.
10:17
And they jump from like eighth or sixth all the way up to two after Friday night.
10:21
And that's what I think is the lead.
10:22
They stayed at two or three.
10:23
And obviously it fluctuates during the evening when you're watching games.
10:27
But that definitely helps getting the pairwise because in the end rankings don't matter.
10:32
It's the pairwise Mr.
10:34
Schierhorn.
10:35
Yeah.
10:36
It's all about the pairwise.
10:37
And honestly, Minnesota's strength of schedule hasn't been great.
10:41
Neither has Michigan State's for that matter.
10:43
I was looking at their non-conference here tonight before we hopped on.
10:46
And obviously they played BC, they split with BC.
10:51
They seem like they're going to be there in March.
10:53
But other than that, Lake State, Lindenwood, Canisius, if you handle your business, it's fine.
11:01
It's those losses that I'm sure I sound like a broken record because I feel like I've said it on here before and I said it on the broadcast when I was doing it to call them the St.
11:10
Thomas games.
11:11
It's like those bad pairwise losses just kill you.
11:16
Just kill you.
11:18
So yeah, if you can sweep the table against bad opponents, great.
11:21
But like you talked about, BigTen teams winning only helps the whole league.
11:29
Risen Tide lifts all boats.
11:32
I was looking at it where they got four teams in the top 15, Notre Dame, Penn State.
11:39
On a down this year, Wisco down a little bit this year.
11:42
So as long as you can keep at least four in the mix there, to keep your strength to schedule up, the losses hurt a little less, and you can just hang around that top eight pairwise.
11:56
Obviously, you want to win the league.
11:58
There's no doubt about that.
12:00
But in the event you don't, you want that BigTen strength to schedule to be strong enough to where you lose Ohio State or you lose Penn State here and there that doesn't knock you down from outside that top eight.
12:13
So that's really all you hope for.
12:16
Well, the weekend didn't come without some costs, bigs, more injuries and basically a lot of frustration from Michigan taking a lot of dumb penalties and definitely almost revenge type of penalties for getting their butts kicked.
12:37
Yeah, that's always the thing with Michigan against Minnesota.
12:40
It seems like they have a lot of undisciplined players that take a lot of these penalties at the end of the game.
12:47
I'm not sure what it is with this rivalry, but it just kind of devolves into some cheap shots.
12:53
And as we saw with the Werner hit on Sanger at the end of the game, they're frustrated with losing and getting swept.
13:01
And this is just not a hockey play where the player is going in.
13:06
I think the initial check is a hockey play.
13:09
But it's going in for the cross-check and the second.
13:12
I think that's exactly what he's doing.
13:15
Yes.
13:16
Boom.
13:18
That's a dangerous part of the ice to get hit from behind.
13:22
And if you watch the game in person, Estapa was going to run somebody in the final seconds until the linesman got in the way.
13:29
So Michigan was out for blood at the end of this game.
13:32
And in the post game, Moscow has always talked in these situations that these games are too important to go for revenge on the ice and do something physical back.
13:42
Because if like Sam Renzell gets into a pile here and gets a suspension against Michigan State for a Minnesota team that's already going to be depleted, that's going to impact them in the conference.
13:52
It's going to impact them in pairwise and have big implications.
13:55
And you just can't be selfish like that.
13:58
And I know it frustrates some of the Minnesota fans not to see a physical response, but that is basically the reason why they don't.
14:07
You do got to play it smart, Eric.
14:08
I mean, you just, yes, you need to retaliate when you need to.
14:12
I mean, for those of you watching the video, you could see here that Renzel does come to him right afterwards and starts hitting Werner.
14:22
But boy, you can only pipe your tongue so much, eventually you do have to respond.
14:28
And maybe it's at Michigan later this year.
14:32
Yeah.
14:32
Yeah, I'm sure they'll get their licks in on whoever that was.
14:36
I don't know who that was.
14:38
It was Werner.
14:39
Werner.
14:40
Yeah, I'm sure they'll get their licks in on him and try to line them up when they're at Yost.
14:44
But yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, it's, I mean, the clock is hitting zero.
14:50
So like, what are you really going to do?
14:51
I mean, there's a scrum.
14:53
They stood up for their guy.
14:56
I mean, you can't fight in college.
14:57
What are you going to do, jump the guy?
14:59
I mean, like Vegues said, then they're going to lose him for a couple of games.
15:02
They don't play against the number three team in the country.
15:05
And the points in the Big Ten matters more than some idiot, you know, hitting Snuggie after the whistle.
15:12
It's not great.
15:12
He's not injured, is he?
15:14
No, he's fine.
15:15
He's back skating fine.
15:17
All right.
15:17
Yeah.
15:18
So I don't know, whatever.
15:20
Let him be idiots.
15:21
Well, this sort of inspired you, Vegues.
15:23
You started collecting data on suspensions, didn't you?
15:27
Yeah.
15:27
I already had a list of a bunch of them over the years.
15:31
I just was like, you know what?
15:32
We need to capture this on GPL and just get them all in there.
15:36
And so we went back to the league start back there in 2014 with the first suspension for a Penn State player.
15:42
And we've tracked them all the way through the years now.
15:44
Some of them are automatic one game suspensions, but you'll see a couple of two and three game suspensions in there for, basically when it's fighting or something at the end of the game that's really unsportsmanlike.
15:57
That's when they do the additional penalties.
16:00
But most of these suspensions are all one gamers.
16:03
Except, we noticed the other day, there's Josh Healy kid from Wauhaus, they got into trouble several times.
16:10
He loved to line people up.
16:12
So I saw one of the funniest suspensions on this list that I've ever seen.
16:16
I think you have to scroll down, but it's Joey Maruni against Penn State.
16:20
So, let's see, this would have been my sophomore year.
16:25
2018-17, yeah.
16:27
Yes.
16:27
So Ruins had been in the lineup.
16:29
For boarding.
16:30
Yes.
16:30
He hadn't been in the lineup forever.
16:33
He gets to start, I want to say this was Saturday against Penn State.
16:37
And I think it was his first shift of the game.
16:41
And, you know, Puck goes into the corner, Ruins is flying him 100 miles an hour because he's getting his first shift.
16:49
And, you know, however many games he wants to make an impact, he wants to be physical.
16:54
There's two Penn State guys in the corner.
16:56
He hits them both from behind at once.
16:59
Both of them from behind at once, five minute major out of the game.
17:05
Oh, that's my favorite.
17:07
We still talk about that one today.
17:09
I think I think that was the game, too, that Klucey scored with like.3 seconds left or whatever to tie it and then Rem wanted an OT.
17:18
I think he had a hatchery.
17:18
Oh, yeah.
17:20
At Penn State.
17:21
I remember that game just very well.
17:23
Yeah, that was a good one.
17:24
Oh, so this page is under construction.
17:28
We will probably make it a little more public soon here, but we'll keep building more content like this for everybody to see, because I think it's interesting.
17:38
Todd kind of helped you in some of it, too, as well.
17:40
Todd Molesky.
17:41
Yeah, because I was going off of the e-mails that come from the Big Ten and I had to go back and find those first five.
17:47
And the ones I didn't include were the automatic.
17:51
Suspensions that come from a penalty that requires it, OK, so Todd had those.
17:55
So, of course, Tom Molesky, the historian of college hockey, had a spreadsheet going at the same time, and it almost looked exactly the same.
18:03
But I caught some of the ones that he had missed as well.
18:06
So we're helping each other out across the board.
18:10
It's an interesting content.
18:11
I love that we're collecting some of this data, and we'll have it out there for people to view.
18:15
Just like we're collecting referee information, getting their pictures out there so everyone knows what they look like and who they are.
18:24
Well, and then the postseason assignments, too, so you know which refs are viewed as the best by the Big Ten offices, which I think is an interesting piece of history there to collect.
18:35
So we're collecting a lot of data.
18:36
So we have the Werner hits on SnuggerRood.
18:39
We're going to get more into injuries later.
18:42
But boy, just such a successful week in VEGS.
18:45
They moved up to number one.
18:46
They're looking good.
18:49
We'll get more into the injuries in a bit here.
18:51
But one thing that you and I have been waiting for for a year and a half, at least year and three quarters early, since winter of 2023, like January, February, somewhere there.
19:07
Yeah, I remember the first I heard about the gray jerseys or the taconite jerseys was when Brock Faber said he was coming back.
19:14
He was in Motzko's office while Motzko was looking at the new jersey design.
19:19
And Faber's like, oh, these would be great to wear.
19:21
Well, it just took a little while for them to get here and get lettered.
19:27
Here's the video from the University of.
19:50
Giggs, I'm thinking a lot of the younger crowd loves this, us old timers, not as much.
19:57
That's kind of the way it goes with jerseys.
19:59
You know, the Oregon Ducks have all their different combinations.
20:03
We got the high numbers now.
20:06
I think it's fine as long as the players like it.
20:07
I know they're all excited to wear them, and you ask them about it, and they're pumped for Friday night.
20:13
Yeah, your former teammate, Mr.
20:15
Ramsey, is not so happy.
20:17
I don't think he likes them, Eric.
20:18
What do you think?
20:20
Yeah, Rammer is like 29, going on like 65.
20:26
But honestly, I don't know how I feel about them.
20:32
And it's not that I dislike alternate jerseys and think that the Gophers should have the same jerseys every year because of history.
20:40
It's not even that.
20:42
I just don't know if the great goes.
20:44
Like with the maroon pants, I think that's what's throwing me off.
20:49
I'll have to see them out on the ice to really have a good feel for them.
20:54
But I'm lukewarm on them right now.
20:57
They look like football jerseys, honestly, which not that there's anything necessarily wrong with that.
21:05
I mean, Penn State does it, but which I guess there could be something wrong with that.
21:09
But I mean, I don't know.
21:12
I'll have to see them on the ice.
21:14
I think it's a cool idea.
21:15
Yeah, I don't hate throwing out New Jerseys every once in a while.
21:18
Like, you kind of always have the gold thirds, so I don't mind switching it up, but we'll see them in action to see if they hit or miss.
21:28
Veegs, do you think maybe the gold shells, they could pull those out?
21:32
It might look better with the gold pants?
21:35
Yeah, that's what Bob was talking about.
21:37
I did remember seeing a kind of like gray alternate jersey that someone designed to recognize the Gophers as like best social media content of the year.
21:48
And there was almost like a vintage goldie that was like black and white on the gray.
21:53
And I was like, how that that does look pretty attractive.
21:57
And like some thought went into this.
21:59
I feel like this jersey, while the players are excited about it and something a little bit different, was maybe not as well thought out as some of the alternate jerseys of the past.
22:09
You know, like when the Gophers wore the throwback Brooks jerseys or the Wug jerseys, you know, that's kind of some history and some background that goes into designing that.
22:18
This just kind of feels a little piece together and not so much thought really well through.
22:25
And it's like, oh, go ahead.
22:27
I was going to say, how big of a layup would it be?
22:29
Like you see the old...
22:33
And I'm probably going to butcher this explanation, but the super retro jerseys, like one that you'd see...
22:39
The bumblebee?
22:40
With like, there's like eight stripes on the sleeve kind of thing and just a print Minnesota across the chest.
22:50
Like those, I feel like would be layups.
22:53
Like those are really cool.
22:55
And those fit in the retro category.
22:57
Like you check all the boxes.
23:00
These are kind of the modern retro, kind of like the reverse retro for NHL teams.
23:06
I don't know how they haven't pulled those jerseys out of the coffers, you know, at least once in the last century.
23:13
I don't even know how long it's been.
23:16
But those feel like a super easy win on the jersey front.
23:21
What about those Bumblebee ones?
23:23
I do know a little inside baseball on this.
23:26
The stick budget is so big at the U.
23:28
And there's, you know, the Title IX thing with the women's team that it's challenging to get an alternate jersey every single year.
23:35
Yes, like you would want.
23:37
So, yeah, people are breaking, you know, 10, 15, $306 sticks.
23:41
The budget gets impacted quite a bit by that.
23:44
Vinnie graduated like eight years ago.
23:46
No.
23:48
Well, I think we did alternates.
23:49
We got new alternates every every other year.
23:52
I think when I was in there, we had two different golds.
23:55
I want to say, yeah, whatever.
23:57
I guess it makes sense.
23:58
The guys need more sticks than they need jerseys.
24:00
Like, it's not a huge deal.
24:01
But if they were going to do one, I'd go the the Meyessich Retros, we'll call them.
24:07
Is that what they were when they opened up this Mariuccirina?
24:11
Well, we kind of call them the bumblebee because they had the kind of the stripes and whatnot.
24:14
I think those were that would have been like the Bonineers first year 93.
24:21
I think they wore them bigs.
24:24
Before a lot of potential out there for before Schierhorn was born.
24:28
Yeah, that's true.
24:29
I will say, though, we did have for at least a couple of my years, maybe my first two years, we had so we had four jerseys.
24:37
We had the standard maroon white.
24:40
We had the third gold and then we had an alternate white that had the diagonal.
24:46
Yeah, those were clean.
24:49
I like those ones a lot.
24:51
And then they wore a similar jersey for the Chicago outdoor game, but it was the maroon with the gold going across Gophers.
24:59
I believe they only wore those one-time Vegas.
25:01
Was it just for that game?
25:03
Felt like it was a special one-time thing with those maroon ones, but those were clean too.
25:08
Yeah, so we'll see folks.
25:11
Well, they can't wear them at home very much typically because the other team, you know, is wearing, you know, they're darks and so they probably had to ask Michigan State, okay, can you wear your whites for a weekend?
25:23
But they could bring them on the road.
25:25
Maybe they wear them at Michigan later this season.
25:30
And it is Friday the 13th, supposed to be gloom and doom this Friday night, so maybe they're just going to embrace the darkness.
25:38
I don't know.
25:39
I just know with GPL, we've been using dark gray as a primary color on our site for many years.
25:45
So I've got my TacNight hoodie on.
25:49
Yeah, that's very nice.
25:51
Is that team issued?
25:53
You just made that from Grezzi's back office?
25:56
It's a little inside baseball.
25:59
So yeah, there you go.
26:01
Yeah, ghost fit.
26:03
Yeah, you guys having all those nice things made.
26:07
I didn't get one.
26:09
Next order, I want one.
26:10
It's very, oh, I like the darker one.
26:12
There's a little one that's a little more charcoal or black.
26:15
That's very nice.
26:18
All right, Veegs, time to get into some sponsors here.
26:21
So let's kick it off with state 1981 dreams of a dynasty.
26:28
Now on Amazon.
26:30
Yeah, this is a fictional retelling of the state tournament.
26:34
From the perspective of the curse South St.
26:37
Paul Packers and their 21st Tournament appearance.
26:39
Now the poor Packers of South St.
26:41
Paul have never really been able to pull it off.
26:44
So this book is about them striving for their first title.
26:48
So check it out.
26:48
It's on amazon.com.
26:50
Makes a good gift for your high school hockey fans in Minnesota.
26:54
And of course, we go to Cub Foods.
26:58
I just had some other chicken tenders the other night.
27:00
I love picking up those tenders just for a meal.
27:03
Yep.
27:03
I've been finding my way down to my Cub, down by the Target there and picking up all kinds of things for the holidays.
27:11
You know, the great thing about Cub is they always have everything in stock.
27:14
Lots of local products in there.
27:16
That's where I go get my Jimmy's dips as I get ready for all the parties that we're going to host here this December.
27:23
And make sure to stop by.
27:25
They've got a lot of liquor stores as well.
27:26
So if you're looking to pick up some beverages for your party, you can get two birds with one stone.
27:32
Cub, they're one of us.
27:34
And of course we thank Cub Foods for sponsoring The GPL Podcast.
27:38
Now it's time for Vegoe's Top 20.
27:40
And looky there, Veegs.
27:42
Minnesota's number one.
27:45
Yeah Minnesota number one.
27:47
A lot of teams are falling here with BC, Denver, Michigan State dropping some games.
27:52
So I've got the Gophers at number one.
27:54
Certainly didn't want to put them there too early this season.
27:59
I felt like this team had a lot of talent, but you had defending champs Denver, Michigan State, got a lot of credit in the Big Ten coaches poll this year.
28:07
So they've had to earn it.
28:09
And when you shut out Michigan, I think that got a lot of votes.
28:12
And I was seeing the USHO poll had a lot of Gopher voters and still some Michigan State voters, even though they dropped a game to Wisconsin, which is curious.
28:22
Where's Cornell?
28:24
I don't see them in your list here.
28:26
Weren't they getting number one votes not too long ago?
28:28
They were getting number one vote, one, and they've disappointed.
28:33
The whole ECAC has kind of been a conference that's hard to pin down.
28:38
You know, it looked like Dartmouth could have been one of their top teams, but they've had some struggles.
28:43
Harvard has won some games and they've struggled.
28:45
Quinnipiac, same thing.
28:48
It's really hard to know what's going to happen in ECAC this year.
28:51
It's looking like they're just going to have one team get a bit at this point.
28:56
You know, they don't play very many out of conference games as is.
29:00
And now no one's really separating themselves in their league standings.
29:04
So it's going to be difficult for them, I think, to get anything more than an auto bid or maybe a team around 14.
29:11
Another team that's not on here that I got some flack this week is Ohio State.
29:17
Yeah, you did.
29:18
USHO, you know, they're still in the top 20.
29:20
I don't have them in there.
29:21
They got swept by Princeton.
29:24
You know, you dig into their season.
29:25
They don't have a very good strength of schedule.
29:28
They don't have any quality win bonus points this year.
29:31
You know, they'll play Notre Dame this weekend after sweeping Penn State last weekend.
29:35
So kind of a show me weekend, I think, for the Buckeyes.
29:39
Yeah, Cappy's given you a hard time, wasn't he?
29:42
Yep, sure was.
29:43
Thanks for reading, Cappy.
29:45
And hopefully listening as well, get my thinking.
29:48
We got to get North Dakota out of there.
29:54
They swept Miami, but I heard some people saying that it didn't really feel like a sweep even though they swept them.
30:01
Yeah, anytime you sweep Miami, Ohio, it doesn't really feel like you've accomplished a whole lot.
30:06
Maybe you got some, you know, skyline chili while you were in town.
30:09
But North Dakota, talented team, a lot of injury problems.
30:14
But unlike Minnesota, they're not handling the injuries very well.
30:18
And I think that's one of the thing with Brad Berry's program.
30:20
He's had so many transfers coming through the program that he hasn't been able to build a roster that can tolerate a season like this.
30:28
And they've they've had issues at center, issues at defense.
30:32
And it's shown up in their schedule and their losses.
30:37
Eric, when you were a player, do you guys pay attention to this stuff?
30:42
Oh, yeah.
30:42
Or do you just, you pay attention to it, but you don't let the media know?
30:47
Oh, yeah.
30:48
Yeah.
30:48
I mean, you can't just do it all.
30:51
Sorry, I shouldn't say it all.
30:53
I would mainly watch the Parawise, because again, that's really all that matters.
30:58
I was never a big reader into what the press was saying.
31:07
But I mean, you watch that Parawise because it updates live, Friday night, Saturday night, where we sit, and how many basis points away from the next spot are we, and five spots ahead, and five spots below, especially after the New Year, because that's what it really meant.
31:28
The Parawise right now is, I don't know, it's like the USCHO poll.
31:34
It's like it doesn't really matter.
31:36
You know what I mean?
31:37
It doesn't matter until January, February, March.
31:41
But yeah, no, I mean, we're well aware where we're at at all times in the Parawise.
31:48
I do think one of the things about the Parawise is the conferences are starting to lock in their spots though.
31:54
Like you are clearly seeing the Big Ten is probably gonna get four spots if they keep playing like they're playing.
32:01
It looks like Hockey East is also gonna get four spots.
32:05
NCHC has had a tough non-conference schedule.
32:08
I mean, they're on that two or three bubble right now where they usually are a team that's gonna get four spots.
32:15
But I don't think that's gonna happen this year.
32:17
They've had so many underperforming teams.
32:20
You know, Colorado College and Omaha were teams that you thought were maybe gonna push to kind of get that upper echelon of that league.
32:28
And now it looks like it's gonna be Western Denver and St.
32:31
Cloud instead.
32:33
And Colorado College is gonna be on a bubble again.
32:36
And I don't know if, you know, they're gonna have other teams that can really compete for bids right now.
32:43
That's always an internal struggle too, right?
32:46
Because in theory, the better your conference does, I mean, the better you will do, just naturally playing them 20 times or however many big 10 games you play.
32:57
But it's also like, god, I hate those guys.
33:00
I don't want them to win.
33:01
I want them to lose to Canisius.
33:03
I want them to feel embarrassed.
33:06
But deep down, you know that, god, that actually hurts me if they lose to Canisius or Bentley or whoever.
33:12
So that's always like a devil in an angel type situation.
33:19
It's hard to cheer for Wisconsin, right, Eric?
33:21
I mean, it's hard to cheer for anyone in the big 10.
33:27
There's a lot of truth to that.
33:33
Injuries, Veegs.
33:34
Injuries, injuries, injuries.
33:37
And on top of the injuries, you've got Mr.
33:40
Matthew Wood leaving this week for the Canada Junior Camp.
33:49
What's Bob planning right now?
33:50
Because, you know, Hughlund went out and Thomas went out, and you've already had, you know, Nevers and Paulson was already.
33:57
I mean, it's piling up.
34:01
Yeah, I think Hughlund is going to be back this weekend for Michigan State, and I think he's going to stick with Zemur and Snuggerud as a group.
34:09
So I think that's a big weight off of everyone's mind knowing that he'll be back.
34:14
Cal Thomas, I'm still not sure if he's going to be able to come back for this weekend, and that's going to be a big loss.
34:21
But, yeah, they're dealing with Nevers, Paulson, Falloon out for sure.
34:26
Yeah, Falloon, too.
34:27
Begley's going to have to play Ford this week, and I kind of think they're going to dress just 11 Fords and kind of do a three line with somebody double-shifting every once in a while with Michael and Middlestadt, and that's how they're going to roll things a little bit.
34:46
Interesting.
34:47
Boy.
34:48
I guess they're right.
34:50
Woods out for this weekend.
34:53
Yep, he's in the Canada camp.
34:55
This has come up a couple of times.
34:56
They start their camp early.
34:58
I think USA Hockey really wants to respect the college game.
35:02
All the majority of their players are coming from college.
35:05
The coaching staffs are coming from college, so they wait until the college season kind of wraps up.
35:10
Whereas Hockey Canada, they don't really have that, and it's rarely an issue for them.
35:16
And there's been some tension over the years with Michigan players specifically, like Owen Power, Adam Fantilly, you know, having to leave or stay.
35:25
And, you know, there's hard feelings about that.
35:27
Sure.
35:29
And it's always been less of an issue for Minnesota because honestly, we don't have that many forwards from Canada that play for the Gophers and are super good.
35:39
Right.
35:42
So it just makes it real short.
35:45
You know, you get a really good team coming in this weekend, Veegs, and playing shorthanded.
35:51
Of course, if they were to, you know, do well, even better, it makes you feel great.
35:56
But still, you know, luckily, it's coming at a good time because after this weekend, you get a full three weeks off.
36:05
Yeah, somebody asked Bob this week, you know, you're playing so well, do you just want to keep going?
36:09
And Bob's like, Oh, God, no, we need a break.
36:12
You know, they haven't had a bye in the first half of the season.
36:16
They've been on the road quite a bit and they have some players who are battling through some things besides the players who are out.
36:23
So the break comes at a good time for them.
36:26
You know, I haven't heard about them adding another body for the second half.
36:31
I don't know if the coaching staff wants to do that because it's not very fair to the player who's not going to be stepping in a role or he's going to be playing on a regular basis.
36:39
And Minnesota's depth has been able to handle this through the first half.
36:43
It's not like they're struggling.
36:45
You know, Nick Michaels done a nice job in the lineup.
36:48
And one thing with the Bob Mosco coaching staff is he wants to play everybody.
36:52
He wants to roll four lines.
36:54
He'll play 70 and everyone will get on the ice.
36:57
You know, I think he really wants to develop that full roster.
37:00
You know, that's something that I think he does, that not every coach in college hockey does.
37:05
You'll see some of these coaches shorten their benches as the game go on.
37:09
Bob has been doing that much at all.
37:11
You know, he wants to get those young guys out there in these situations so he can see what he has and develop them.
37:18
Just keep rolling lines as much as you can.
37:20
I mean, that's all you can do, Eric.
37:24
That's all you can do.
37:25
I mean, when you're short somebody guys, you just hope that, you know, the guys coming in step up and you know, sometimes you need a break too.
37:33
Maybe the puck bounces the right way.
37:36
Yeah.
37:37
I mean, like Vegue said, their depth has been able to handle it.
37:42
And they are a deep team.
37:45
When you start playing a defenseman out forward, that changes the dynamic a little bit, certainly.
37:54
But I don't, I mean, they still got a ton of skill.
37:56
I mean, you can find a way to win a couple of college hockey games with three lines if you need to.
38:06
Yes.
38:07
And 4D primarily.
38:09
In a perfect world, it's not against Michigan State.
38:12
It's not against the three team in the country.
38:14
But like you said, you got three weeks break after this.
38:21
And also, I mean, you play 36 max college games or whatever it is.
38:27
Like, it's not that many games.
38:30
And, you know, it's six days since their last game.
38:35
So it's like these guys aren't that tired.
38:38
They just aren't.
38:40
And so you can battle through it.
38:45
Do you want to?
38:46
No, but you can if you need to.
38:49
And I think we saw some of that this past weekend, Veegs, you know, they lost some guys and they still they just hunkered down and, you know, the blocking shots and they just came together to get that second shutout and send Michigan home.
39:05
Well, I think the mindset of this team can handle this better than maybe some other rosters of the past.
39:11
Like they can play a little bit more defensive first.
39:15
And that leads to offense.
39:17
I think we've had other rosters where that's not always the case.
39:21
They're always looking for a little bit extra offense out on the ice.
39:25
This team, every time you ask them about what are the details, it's like defense first, offense comes from our defense.
39:31
You know, we play good structure, we get turnovers, then we go fast in transition.
39:36
And I think that's the mindset that you have to have in this group.
39:39
And, you know, just one more series for the first half allows you to empty the tank.
39:45
Because most coaches say, you know, it's not the individual game where you shorten your bench that it causes problems, it's the next weekend.
39:54
So if they can get through this weekend, maybe shortening the bench a little bit, they've got three weeks off before they have to play again.
40:00
You know, and Slapshot does have a point here.
40:02
You know, most teams go down to three lines during the NCAA tournament.
40:06
Right.
40:07
But that's also where Bob rolling four lines helps them in tournament at times, because, you know what, the other team is going to get more tired, and Minnesota just keeps rolling.
40:17
So when it comes to that late third period or overtime, ideally, you're going to have more energy than the other team.
40:26
Yeah, I think the only issue that could be with if there's a lot of special teams play that can wreak havoc on your roster at a time like this, where you don't quite have that depth.
40:35
You know, I think, you know, a penalty kill, especially this weekend, could be interesting when you have a shorter bench, because that is a spot where you can expend a lot of energy.
40:45
I think, especially on the blue line, Gruba and Whipple have been getting more and more time as the season has gone on, and I think they're getting more comfortable and better.
40:54
At the start of the season, especially those two, you could just tell there's a little bit of panic to their game when they had the puck.
41:02
Now they're taking a little bit more time and making hockey plays.
41:07
So I think you're really seeing them get more comfortable.
41:09
I think Gruba getting his goal the other weekend was a really good sign for him and gives him a little bit more confidence.
41:17
Well, that's definitely good, but let's get into this week, Ken here in a little bit here, but we first need to hear about lunch bucket hockey Veegs.
41:25
Yeah, check out lunch bucket hockey on the social medias.
41:28
They're showing all kinds of their gear and swag that they've got out there.
41:31
You know, if you're looking for something for your beer league team, lunch bucket hockey is a great place to go look.
41:38
You know, a couple of local guys who played a Friday morning lunchtime league.
41:43
They're one of us and they've got some great apparel for the grit and grind players.
41:49
They definitely do.
41:50
And then of course, Jimmy's.
41:54
Jimmy's it's sad to say goodbye to Carmel season, but you know what?
41:59
It's dips season and Jimmy's has some great ones.
42:03
You know, their ranch is one of the best selling dips out there in Minnesota.
42:07
They're dill dip.
42:08
I just picked up a bunch.
42:09
If you got like a holiday party coming up, you got to have some veggies out there and you got to have some Jimmy's to go with it.
42:15
Cause you know, if you're going to eat healthy, you get a little bit of Jimmy's on the side.
42:19
So make sure to stop by.
42:20
I know they've got them at Cub.
42:22
I just picked up some this week.
42:24
Don't you be messing with my dressing.
42:28
Of course we thank both Jimmy's and Lunch Bucket Hockey for sponsoring The GPL Podcast.
42:35
Michigan State coming in to town.
42:37
I don't think they're going to thug it up like Michigan did this past weekend, Vig.
42:42
So hopefully the bumps and bruises won't be as bad.
42:48
You wouldn't think so.
42:49
Adam Nightingale has tried to recruit a skilled team to play in the Big Ten.
42:54
He comes from the development program.
42:56
He's gotten a few of those guys to come to Michigan.
42:59
I think they're a little light on talent among their defensemen, but they brought in Isaac Howard and Charlie Stramel, who have both played better for Nightingale in Michigan State than they did at Wisconsin and Minnesota Duluth.
43:13
So I think that boosts their talent just a little bit.
43:16
Our Fellowship of the Rink friends had Charlie Stramel on this week.
43:19
And he didn't want to say it, but he's got this one circled on his calendar, I think, because he's looking for extra tickets.
43:30
But also they've got a little better than average goalie, Eric.
43:35
Yeah, that, I mean, he was, he's a stud, not a stud, he is a stud.
43:41
We saw that in the NCAA tournament last year, World Juniors.
43:46
I mean, a guy like that can win you a lot of games.
43:49
You know, I was looking at the team stats before this, they kind of have a similar makeup of the Gophers and their goal differential, goals for, goals against are, you know, really kind of on the same spectrum where they don't give up a lot and they score at a pretty good clip, which I think is an interesting dynamic going in to see what gives.
44:09
Are we going to get, you know, one zero, two one games?
44:13
Are they going to break it open a little bit?
44:15
It's going to be, you know, five four.
44:18
So this is a really interesting match up.
44:20
And like you said, Nightingale's recruited more skill than certainly when I was there.
44:26
And they've hit the portal pretty good with Straml.
44:29
Like you said, Howard, a couple other guys from CC, some NTTP guys.
44:35
So this is like this is a different Michigan State team than we've seen in forever since Torrey Krug, if you want to say that, which I think before last year might have even been the last time they made the NCAA Tournament.
44:52
Yeah, they had been on quite a big drought until last year.
44:56
Because they went to Anastas.
44:57
I don't think they made it under Cole.
45:00
Did they?
45:01
Yeah, no, I don't think so.
45:02
So, yeah, I mean, it's it's it's going to be a fun one for sure.
45:08
You know, you guys talk about Straml.
45:11
He needed to get out of Wisconsin for himself, and it seems to have been the right decision.
45:19
Yeah, I think, you know, we've talked to Cappy about Mike Hastings as a coach.
45:23
And if you aren't doing the things he wants you to be doing, there is no way out.
45:29
Like, you can't outplay a Hastings system.
45:34
You know, if you're not playing the way he wants you to, you're going to get in the doghouse, and you're not going to get many chances to get out of it.
45:41
And it was just a tough situation for him.
45:44
I'm sure the Wild are happy to see him move on to a place where he can play freer and develop.
45:51
Because I think that's one of the things with the Mike Hastings program is, I don't know if it's about developing players for the next level.
45:59
It's about developing a system to win in college.
46:01
And if you develop in that system, great.
46:04
But that's really not what they're trying to do.
46:07
I think Adam Nightingale comes with that skill development and giving players chances and a little bit of freedom to be the player that they are.
46:14
And he's delivering and playing much better.
46:18
You know, when he was going through the program, he was the big rig and that big rig had some broken wheels or something was at Wisconsin.
46:28
Well, it's good.
46:29
You know, for the wild sake, it's definitely good.
46:31
He got out of there.
46:32
Hopefully, you know, continues to do good, except for this weekend against the Gophers.
46:38
With all the injuries, Eric, could is a split really a good weekend for the Gophers?
46:46
Because I kind of think it is.
46:49
Yeah, I mean, at home, obviously, you always like to sweep.
46:54
But, I mean, you're talking about a 1-3 matchup, and you look at the injuries that the Gophers are dealing with.
47:00
I don't think if you zoom out, I don't know how you could be too disappointed with a split.
47:06
There's levels to a split, right?
47:08
Like if they win, if they win 2-1, and Aerie stands on his head, and they probably shouldn't have won the game, and then they get blown out the second game 6-1, and they look horrendous, and they get dominated.
47:22
Maybe you look at that and be like, I don't know how we stacked up.
47:27
But I don't know.
47:29
I think this Gopher's team has shown us enough at this point to be confident in where they're at and where they're headed.
47:36
Even if they slip up a little this weekend, I don't lack confidence in where they'll be coming down the stretch.
47:45
They've shown us.
47:48
So what does Minnesota need to do, Veegs, to get do better than the three points this weekend?
47:53
Because I think it's going to be tough in their current situation.
47:57
I think the power play is going to have to come through for them.
48:00
You know, I think these are going to be tight games where you're going to need a special team's goal on your side to pull out a victory and you're going to need to have a good penalty kill.
48:11
And with Matthew Wood leaving for the Canada camp, you know, that changes up how the Gophers will deploy their forwards on the power play.
48:20
And, you know, I haven't necessarily thought the first unit has always been the best unit for them.
48:28
So maybe the shakeup is going to pay off this weekend.
48:31
And they're going to have to do some things a little bit different.
48:34
You know, Snuggeroots probably going to have to move around even more than he's used to because he won't have Wood opposite him.
48:40
So it's a big opportunity for them to maybe surprise Michigan State a little bit with their looks that they present.
48:47
All right, Eric, give us your prediction this weekend.
48:52
I mean, I say the same thing every time.
48:54
How could I not go with a sweep?
48:55
Yeah.
48:57
And we're going to have some guys step up.
48:59
We're going to have Oliver Moore step up, Beckett Hendrickson step up, Leo Gruba step up, John Whipple step up, all these guys that have kind of played ancillary roles here.
49:13
Now, when you get a little more TOI, you get a little more feel for the game, you get a little more confidence, you get a little more pep in your step, and you contribute more.
49:22
And I think they have the tools to do it.
49:24
I mean, you look at Gruba, Gruba was the USHL Defenseman of the Year.
49:28
And sure, he wasn't a high draft pick like some of these other guys, but he's still a damn good hockey player.
49:35
And he's proven that he can make an impact on the offensive end at the next level.
49:40
Not quite the college level yet, but small sample size.
49:44
But I think they've got a lot of talent that is lower on their depth chart than they would be on a normal college hockey team just because of the makeup of this team.
49:53
So I don't see any reason why they can't sweep.
49:55
I think that would be a huge, huge accomplishment, but I can't not say sweep.
50:03
All right, Veegs, what do you got?
50:06
I have been a little pessimistic of the Gophers in some of these matchups, but I think a sweep is coming as well.
50:12
I mean, I looked at Sam Renzell in the last couple of weekends.
50:15
He is putting his name in the Hobie race.
50:20
He played, I think, 24 and 25 minutes against Michigan, and he is playing at a super confident level right now.
50:29
He is making the right decisions about when to get in the play.
50:32
He has been physical in his own end, and I just think he is really playing at a confident level right now, and the Gophers are going to have to lean on him this weekend quite a bit with Cal Thomas out.
50:43
You know, I could easily see Renzell playing at midnight where he is 26, 27 minutes.
50:49
I think that is going to be key for Minnesota, is leaning on him to play really well and change the game.
50:55
Because if you play three on five in the offensive zone, you are going to be in trouble.
51:00
But when you can start involving your defensemen in the offense and in the ground game, you can really take it to another level.
51:06
I think Renzell gives Minnesota that edge, and I don't think Michigan State has a player like that.
51:11
No.
51:12
The other thing I was looking at with that is, Chesley and Renzell have more goals combined than all of Michigan State's D-Corp, too.
51:19
So they got the scoring on the back end that they might be missing some of the guys up front, but those guys are more than capable of picking up the load.
51:27
Because I don't think Minnesota is going to be giving Michigan State a lot of transition chances.
51:31
That's just not how Minnesota is playing right now.
51:33
They're not giving up Russians against.
51:36
Grade A scoring chances for other teams aren't coming.
51:40
Minnesota is really back that down.
51:42
And now that they're blocking more shots, even less dangerous pucks are getting to the crease.
51:49
I'm going to go five of six points.
51:51
I think one game is going to be an overtime victory.
51:56
So, no, I know that.
52:00
Don't say that.
52:01
Don't, we know there wouldn't win a shootout.
52:04
I think a shootout is going to be an overtime topic tonight.
52:07
Right, Eric?
52:08
Yeah, yeah, let's do it.
52:12
You know, technically two wins when it comes to the, you know, the pair wise, 66% of a win, it feels like a win.
52:20
It really feels like when you win it over time.
52:23
You might not get all the points, but it does make you feel great.
52:25
So I'm saying five out of six points for the Gophers this weekend.
52:31
So you're already playing in overtime for us, Veegs, huh?
52:33
Yeah, we got a goalie on street hockey goalie, Eric Schierhorn.
52:38
You know, it was so funny, I was texting, I was texting Ryan Coyne, who was a...
52:46
He's at Bemidji now, isn't he?
52:48
What's that?
52:48
Is he coaching somewhere?
52:49
Is he coaching from Bemidji?
52:51
Brockhous was the coach at Bemidji last year.
52:54
Coyne was our fourth string goalie who was a senior my freshman year.
52:59
He's a great guy.
53:00
He actually works in South Korea now.
53:02
He works for...
53:03
Wow.
53:04
He bought Schwanns.
53:05
But anyways, he loves Gopher Hockey.
53:08
He's always texted me about it.
53:09
Loves goaltending for that matter.
53:11
And he's texted me, how about the two shout outs this week?
53:16
And I was like, yeah, you know, Suleer kind of looks like a street hockey goalie out there.
53:20
And I can say that because I've been called a street hockey goalie more than once.
53:25
And he does.
53:26
He is a little more...
53:28
Well, he's smaller too.
53:29
Yeah, he's smaller.
53:30
I don't want to say it's my style, because I'm certainly not the Paul Bearer for the street hockey goaltenders.
53:38
But he is a little more old school and he gets a little erratic when he charges out, cuts off the angle fine, but then he's sliding out of his crease, he's falling on his butt.
53:49
You get a shout out.
53:51
It works.
53:51
But you see less and less of that as the years progress.
53:56
And he's got quite the personality as well.
53:58
When he left the news conference Saturday night, it's all quiet.
54:02
He's walking out.
54:03
He just lets out a big woo as he's going out.
54:08
It's great to see.
54:09
He's got some great personalities.
54:10
It's great to see him do well, Veegs.
54:12
Well, I think both times he's been in the post-screen.
54:15
He's basically telling the scrum, hey, it's a show.
54:19
There's fans here.
54:20
They want to be entertained.
54:21
I'm out here to entertain them.
54:23
And the show right now is pretty good with Gopher Hockey.
54:27
It's got to feel good, too, like he's at Penn State.
54:32
I don't really think they had good teams the whole time he was there.
54:36
They were overtime from the Frozen Four.
54:38
Was he the goalie then?
54:39
Yeah, he was the goalie.
54:40
They almost beat Michigan.
54:43
He almost beat Michigan.
54:44
He played really well down the stretch.
54:46
Like the last month of the year, his goals against was like two, and they kind of went on a run.
54:50
They made the tournament.
54:52
They played Michigan.
54:52
They almost had him.
54:54
That was when he was a junior, I believe.
54:55
Yeah, junior year.
54:56
And senior year didn't go very well.
54:59
They brought in Sergei Chav to take the net the next year.
55:02
And he's just like, I'm out of here.
55:04
You know, Guy Gadowski said he did it the right way, but he wasn't going to want to share the net with that guy.
55:11
Sure.
55:12
Well, either way, he had more bad years than good years at Penn State.
55:17
And then it comes to Minnesota.
55:18
And I mean, Minnesota is Minnesota to begin with, but then, you know, you get off to a start where you're 14 and 2 or 16 and 2, whatever they are.
55:27
And it's like, wow, this is fun.
55:29
This is an absolute blast.
55:32
So I don't blame him for being super pumped.
55:34
And that crowd all weekend, Veegs, I know you went as a fan Saturday.
55:38
Did you enjoy it with your son?
55:40
It was great.
55:40
I was right by the student section.
55:42
And so great time over there up on the corner.
55:45
And the battle hand was playing the whole sweep chant was just super loud.
55:50
It's been a while since we've heard a sweep chant that loud, Veegs.
55:53
And everybody had the white towels going back and forth.
55:55
And I think the fans are especially into it because they saw Rinzel, you know, given the sweep motion at the end of the game as well to the Michigan bench.
56:03
So very entertaining performance by the show.
56:06
Oh, boy.
56:07
Yeah, I heard a lot of good stuff.
56:09
I'll just.
56:09
Yeah, what I had.
56:11
I was actually watching that game.
56:12
I saw you in between the benches.
56:14
How was the?
56:16
Yeah, well, we'll save it for over time, but it's not like I'm going to out anybody.
56:20
That's fair.
56:20
You can just give high level points.
56:23
I love a comment.
56:25
No direct quotes of the coaching staff, Jupe, please.
56:31
Yeah, that got me in trouble with Gunnar one time, didn't it?
56:34
That was a long time ago.
56:36
All right.
56:37
Well, V, you got anything else going on?
56:38
Obviously, we're building we're building a page on the site now, like the Big Ten suspensions, we've been kind of adding little stuff all over the place.
56:45
It's been a fun year for doing new and different things on the site.
56:49
Yeah, thanks for everyone following along this year.
56:51
It's been a great ride so far through the first half.
56:54
I'm excited to see how this one ends.
56:58
Eric, thanks for being on the show, man.
57:00
You ready for some overtime?
57:01
Yeah, thanks for having me, guys.
57:02
Yeah, let's go.
57:03
Let's do it.
57:04
Definitely.
57:04
