Yep the offense is struggling today without A Jones and Hock.

The Jets have a good defense. They are doing a good job of putting pressure on Darnold while doing a pretty good job in coverage when they aren't holding our receivers.

Darnold is broken.  His last two passes weren’t within 10 yards of his intended receiver.

it may be time for Mullens

Darnold with two nice passes. One to Jefferson and one to Mundt.

Vikings at the Jets 27 yard line up 20-17 with 3 and half minutes left.

Getting badly out coached by the Jets should be a huge wake up call for O'Connell and Flores

Veteran Super Bowl winner experience paid off on 50/50 ball, never turned his head & Gilmore made the clutch pick! Aaron Jones getting nicked up & a series of really dumb penalties kept Jets in game. But the veteran Gilmore provides the Dagger! Also having a rookie kicker who hasn’t missed a kick through 5 games. Off next week, hopefully Jones will be back in 14 days. SKOL😉

KOC definitely got bailed out for just awful second half play calling.  His incessant desire to pass for no reason when leading and you need the clock to run is just mind boggling done.  Not forcing the Jets to call time outs, just bad strategy all around...

And can we can calm down a bit on the Darnold extension talk.

Buuuuuuuuuuuut

5-0 baby!!

The Vikings D had 6 three and outs along with 3 INTs facing a future 1st ballot Hall of Famer.

Two of the three INTs would have been additional 3 and outs if the Vikings would have dropped the INTs.

Nine possessions were the Vikings absolutely D dominated Erin & the Jets offense.

The two Jets TDs were 31 and 42 yard drives that were set up by a long punt return and a Viking turnover.

The Jets FG was on a possession the Vikings stopped but the Jets got a second chance due to a roughing the punter penalty.

Vikings adopted this tendency of early enthusiasm and points and then hanging on. Need to clean that up.

Best play of the game was whiner Rogers with his hands up looking for a penalty on the game-winning INT. Then he ran over to the ref pleading his case. I won't miss him when he retires.

@handyman Anytime U wipe the Smug Grin off ARog face…is a good Day! Even when he’s 40 years old! The duder has leveraged a lot out of winning a single SB Homeboy. Farve still more beloved by cheese fans, despite those 2 years in purple. 😄

Darnold is good when he is not getting pressured. The Jets did a good job of getting pressure today which with a solid Jets secondary and no A. Jones and no Hock lead to a bad day for the offense. The offense will have much better days this seasons.

The Vikings were predicted to have 6.5 wins this season. If the regular season ends with 11 wins Vikings fans will be pissed because they lost 6 games. Talk about raising expectations during the season.

The team is still growing under Kwesi, Flores, and KOC. They are in great hands.

I am RELLY looking forward to how good this team will be in two years after JJ McCarthy has some play time under his belt.

I’d like to hear why KOC kept passing when we needed to run the clock out in the 4Q knowing our passing game was brutal.

run, run, pass, punt is much better then pass, pass, pass punt

Might have been different if Jones was in the game. Chandler looked average at best and the 2 longer runs he had were called back. The first one was a 30+ yard run that was called back cause Jefferson came in motion and then lined up off the line leaving the T exposed, no bueno.

Maybe but two yards and the clock moving is better than 0 yards and the clock stopped.  Bad choices and overthinking...I mean it wasn't like Darnold was having a day or anything he was average.

The gamble paid off but it was still not a smart choice...especially when you are in FG range.  Kill clock or force timeouts...basic stuff.

A non banged up Rogers is deadly there.

But...

5-0 Smile

Vikings without a single 3rd down conversion in the second half. The offense scored only 16 points today, and Minnesota got out of there with a little luck today. The difference was a pick 6.

Can't remember the time of the game, but Minnesota had 3rd and 2 on the Jets' 30yd line. Instead of moving rhe chains, they tried a long pass to JJ and then a bomb on 4th down. I didn't understand that at all. Not only did they fail to keep the drive alive, they didn't bother even trying to collect 3 points (a FG there means the Vikes would have been up by 2 scores on Erin's last drive.)

I'm filing that under "questionable coaching decisions."

2 games in a row where 2nd half coaching is questionable. It's worked out, but...

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

For funsies I'm listening to Whine Line and even Ron Johnson is questioning the coaching...and he is usually the one who defends the coaches.

Thing is, if you don't want Chandler to run fine (maybe don't play him then?) but can you call a play that is maybe not down field?  I get the Jets were holding a lot but they never put Darnold in good spots.  Go West Coast Offense if you have to or some route under 10 yards...they had him shotgun way more than they should his stats are best in play action.

Jones getting hurt screws up the gameplan but that happened in the first quarter and the coaches never adjusted...especially once the Jets woke up.  If the Vikes lose the coaches get destroyed and rightfully so.  I am glad we play aggressive but you don't have to play stupid to be aggressive.  Moving the chains might not be sexy but it works.

Thankfully...we won again and now have 2 weeks to heal and learn!  5-0 is 5-0 no matter how you get there. Smile

The 30 yard pass attempt on 4th down was dumb.  I remember screaming “what the hell are they doing about 10 times yesterday.  The only thing I can think is they gambled the Jets would be so focused on the short play that they’d catch em by surprise.

All said, I was less upset by that than the pass plays at the end of the game when we just needed to bleed the clock.  There is a time and a place to be aggressive.  Stop being cute at the worst of times.

Maybe they got lucky too many times and they feel invincible?  That bomb from the end zone vs SF……

The 4th down call and that sequence was very stupid. It most likely took points off the board.

They had 3rd and 2 yards in go for it territory. Run the ball 2 times if need even be (after 3rd down) and you have well over a 90% chance of a fresh set of downs.

Both 3rd and 4th plays were similar with throws down field with our receivers blanketed. The only hope was PI.

O’Connell made a similar mistake last week on a 3 and 1. Throwing over the middle to Powell before halftime which led into the debacle that allowed GB to score before half.

Just because a long pass is thrown doesn't mean it was the first (preferred) option on the play.

Quite a few times Darnold threw deep as the third option on the play because the first two options (shorter passes) weren't open.

@collegehockeyaddict From the looks of those plays it is pretty clear that was the call. They were taking shots against single coverage.

Either way it isn't smart football. It was 3 and 2. The O at that point was playing well, get the first down, keep the drive going and a potential TD on the table.

Right, and if the defense blows up the short yardage coverage Darnold can use his feet. Any deep pattern carries with it the risk of a sack, which is unacceptable when you have 2 plays to make two yards.

I have no proof, but those plays had the look of  sideline calls.

I think Minnesota got greedy there and as a consequence forfeited at minimum 3 extremely valuable points. (With those three points, the Jets' final drive would have been irrelevant.)

The irony is that on their ensuing drive, the Jets did the exact same thing--going for it on 4th down in FG range and handing the ball back after the stop.

@streakygopher You can give the coaches a little benefit of the doubt. It was early (maybe not aware yet that the Jets DBs were going to be that good today), single coverage is enticing and you think you can make them pay on a short yardage situation especially if they are all in on the run. Problem is the Jets D and corners played extremely well, credit to them, that D is a legit D. Anything down field was shut down all day.

But all in all still doesn't matter there were much better ways to play that scenario.

How many times did we see the Vikings get beat by Favre/Rodgers/Brady through the years because those teams went for the jugular on 3rd down late in a half?  I have no problem passing if the right play is designed and called.

I am on the bandwagon, but I am not going to bet the money line vs the Lions.  Lions look very good.  If they come away from that game 6-0….look out!  I’ll be set up for another crushing season’s end!

I had the same question.

According to Pelissero, no.

https://twitter.com/TomPelissero/status/1846317463157592278

Saw on twitter that Jones was at practice yesterday with a helmet so he's at least not far off, even if he's not going to play Sunday.

@beauner

A) that's great to hear

2) Not sure we need another RB who has similar stats to Chandler.  The Vikings are short on draft picks as it is.
