Rory birdied the 1st hole (a par 5) and bogied the 14th (also a par 5) surprisingly., par on the other 16 holes. Bottom line, when you don’t make a 10 foot or longer putt in the FINAL round, rarely do you win. “Drive for show…putt for $?”Clark took chance after chance, made ridiculous save after ridiculous save and wins the US Open! Friggin awesome!
Sorry Rory! 😉
Rahm shot a 65 Sunday and finished in the top 10, only 2 shots behind Fowler…lol. It sucked watching the wheels fall off for Rickie…but Clark (who I’d never heard of until this weekend) certainly earned the victory!Hovland with one of the best up and downs you’ll ever see at 18.
Xander with a crazy round of par to save his chances.
Jon Rahm barely makes the cut, a month ago he was a world beater.
I'm in the market for some new golf clubs. Does anyone have any they particularly like?

New/used? Budget? Irons, wedges, and driver?
New or lightly used. Mostly irons, but I could use a new driver as well. Budget is pretty flexible.
I've played Pings the last decade or so and love them. I have Ping i3's which are from 2000 but I absolutely love them. I played a course out in Billings a month ago and I couldn't miss within 150 all day. I also hit the Ping G410 9 Degree driver and love it. I test drove that along with Callaway and Titleist drivers and this one just seemed to fit my game better. My wife hits a Ping G400 driver and she loves it too. I am starting to realize while writing this that I have a lot of family members who have tended to use Pings and they all love them.

I'm looking at replacing my iron set as well. I really like the new Srixon irons, specifically the ZX5 MKII's. My son just got the TaylorMade Stealth irons and they are nice too. If you're close to a 2nd Swing, I'd recommend going there and swinging a few options.
My golfing buddy plays the new ZX5 MKII's and he loves them. I hit them fairly well and they are definitely in the running for me.
The suggestion to go swing a bunch of clubs is spot on. I did a fitting at the PGA Store in Minnetonka a couple of years ago. For some reason my eye didn’t like the Titleist clubs. Any of them. I told the guy to just hand me a club and don’t tell me what it was. Same shaft, just didn’t see them well. I ended up with the Callaway Apex Pros. I did learn that with irons, the shaft is just as important as the club head. That’s another thing to look for.
Justin Thomas? Curious selection given his last few months of playing, well, like I play if I dig my clubs out of mothballs.
Burns, Fowler, Koepka, Morikawa, Spieth and Thomas selected to compete for the U.S. in Rome
United States Ryder Cup Captain Zach Johnson today announced that Sam Burns, Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas have been named to the U.S. Team as Captain’s Picks for the 44th Ryder Cup, which will take place September 29 - October 1 at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy.

JT is definitely a curious captain's pick. He's obviously been one of the primary leaders of the team the last couple Ryder Cups and has been borderline dominant (6-2-1 overall) including 4-1 on European soil in 2018.
- @beauner I think he might have been added because he & Spieth play so well as a team.
He was chosen because he is part of the boys club. All of his strokes gained data shows he isn't a worthy pick for this golf course.

I'm guessing Tiger was in Johnson's ear the last couple weeks fighting for JT.
Either way, it was going to be an uphill battle on European soil where they can tailor the course exactly the way they want. IIRC they've made no secret about their plans to neutralize some of the long bombers the USA had so I'm not surprised guys like DJ are staying home.
JT obviously had a rough summer but we've all seen the spark and leadership he brings to the team, and as previously mentioned, he's been exceptional at the Ryder Cup and he and Spieth have been great together.
If it backfires people will certainly have all the ammo they need to criticize Johnson with. If it works he will be celebrated as a genius.

This course puts a premium of driving the ball both long and straight. It's not like Le Golf National which was literally target golf. Thomas is a long but wayward hitter. I personally am fine with the Thomas pick, as he is a sparkplug, but the only reason he is on this team is because of that. He isn't going to be the difference between if the US wins or loses. If he plays poorly in first match, they will probably sit him until singles.
Scheffler needs to find a putter before flying to Italy. Xander and Cantlay will need to go 3-1 or better. Brooks, Wyndham, Homa, and Morikawa should be great course fits. They all need to show up and play well.
Burns & Scotty Scheffler are best friends & will be paired together. In addition, Burns won the (only) Match Play tournament played this season. JT & Spieth are a pairing too & should feed off each other plus JT is an emotional leader, it’s not like Spieth had a stellar year either, but as a pair they are veterans who can handle a hostile setting. Ricky has had a solid year, won a tourney & made a good run at the US Open, great in the team room too. The odd men out are Bradley, Glover & Cam Young (Cam in particular will get plenty of chances down the road). And as the PGA champion & Masters runner up, Koepka clearly earned his way onto the team & consequently was a no brainer pick.
Not looking good for the US at the Ryder Cuo. Everyone for the INT team is playing well and no one for the US is.
Koepka and Scheffler with the biggest loss in Ryder Cup history
The Americans should consider a visit to The Vatican to plead for a miracle.

Cantley birdied the last 3 holes including holing a 40 foot bomb on 18 to give USA a 3-1 win in 4 ball today, they trail 10.5 - 5.5 going into 12 singles matches on Sunday. It’s a gigantic long shot, but Cantley heroics gives them a chip, chair & a chance on Sunday. ☝️
Europe wins RC 16.5 - 11.5 The lead they built on Friday & maintained on Saturday proved insurmountable. Max Homa & Patrick Cantley emerge as the two most productive & clutch players for the USA squad.
Getting swept Friday morning ends up being a big problem (who could have imagined that?)
The European team made some just absolutely ridiculous putts and chipped in a couple times to turn the tide and it just didn't seem like the USA team could harness that kind of magic for themselves very often.
The up and down for par that Homa made on 18 after taking an unplayable lie would have been an absolutely legendary play if the USA had been even remotely functional Friday or Saturday
Every Ryder Cup the Europeans just out putt the USA team.
Turns out someone in the family got the "good" golfer gene. Congratulations, Kevin!

Played at Prestwick yesterday morning. Beautiful track. Was in great shape too.
Jon Rahm signing with LIV later today. Big change in the golf landscape.

Two of my favorite holes there are 16 and 9. High risk but beautiful par fives. If you rip your drives it’s fun to try and hit that long iron into those greens.
The grounds staff takes fantastic care of that course. My wife loves their floral arrangements near the tee boxes when we play there
I’ve always felt that 8 is one of the toughest greens to read. Much more slope than you’d think looking at it. And stay away from that pot bunker near the 18th green.

Next level Masters starting tomorrow morning . DeChambeau may have figured something out. Prolly Bryson v Scottie on Sunday
And consistent 15-20 mph wind today with higher gusts. It’s going to be one of the best viewing days in a while.

I always joke that the first 2 days are for the pretenders, and the last 2 days are for the contenders. Danny Willett? Ryan Fox? I don't think I'll see those names in contention on Sunday...
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Hasn't Willett already won a green jacket?
No clue. They were names I didn't recognize, although I'm not golf's biggest fan by a long shot.

Yes, 2016. Rifled a 67 on Sunday to come from behind and beat the defending champ Jordan Spieth.

Scotty is simply #1 in the world as he proved today. Shot 33 on back nine when it mattered the most. Easy guy to root for too! I really like (runner up) 23 year old Ludvig Aberg too…has a bright future!
When it was 4 players at -6, I was getting excited, then Scotty flexed, and others flailed. Told a buddy that around hole 10...that's when we were gonna see any sort of separation. I was close.

Rory wins Sunday @Quail Hollow in dominating fashion.
Files for divorce Monday morning.
Scotty Scheffler drains 6 foot putt for par on the 18th hole to edge Colin Morikowa by one stroke and win the Memorial tournament.
I know I may be in the minority here, but the US Open is my least favorite MAJOR to watch on tv. The firmness & speed of the greens is way too tricked up for my liking. I don’t enjoy watching the best players on earth hitting chips that roll right back to them or putting the ball off of greens. I’d actually go 1)Masters 2)PGA 3)OPEN 4)US Open. There are exceptions, Torrey Pines comes to mind as a US Open venue, because it’s hard to trick up that course due to its location & climate.

I agree 100% & with your rankings, too. The PGA is far more interesting than the US Open.

Tricked up 13th green just torpedoed Finau & now Aberg. Both card triple bogeys on a hole both should have bogeyed (at worst). And with a reasonable hole placement & green condition, they’d of had 20 foot putts for birdie.
I have no problem with growing up the rough and choosing difficult pin placements. However, I don't enjoy seeing the greens turned into linoleum. That said, right now DeChambeau is -8 thru 15 and -4 for the day, so it's not impossible.
I don't need to see Majors that feature -15 scores, etc. I want the course to challenge the world's best.

Tough & challenging I’m OK with. The hole location on 13 & green condition turns things into more luck than skill. Just not my cup of tea. I’d be a lot more OK with it in match play format…where a bad break costs one hole.
Pinehurst looks like it has big greens, it doesn’t. Basically the outer third might as well be rough

I am far more interested in the courses, usually, than the actual title of the tournament. Play at a super private course for the ultra wealthy (LACC, ANGC, Oakmont, Shinnecock, Southern Hills, Winged Foot) and I am not that interested. This is the first US Open in a few years that I am interested in. The Masters doesn't do much for me.
Play at a course than I can play (or in some cases have played), now I am interested. I have played Pinehurst #2. I am interested in watching. Those are difficult greens to play, not JUST for the pros. I had several greens 'visited' where I putted off the green because I was above the hole and couldn't possibly get a putt to stop from where I was. I enjoy seeing pros deal with "the rub of the green" sometimes. The tournaments where the winning score is -24, with ultra wide fairways, and flat greens, YAWN. I don't even bother turning that on.
I think the US Open should ALWAYS be at a public course. Bethpage, Chambers Bay, Erin Hills, Pinehurst, Pebble Beach, Whistling Straits, etc. The USGA should make it a goal to elevate some PUBLIC courses to be US Open level, and host it there. Not have a bunch of rotating ultra private courses. Just my opinion.
You certainly make a number of good points! What I love about the Masters (despite the fact I’ll likely never step foot on the course - lol) is the risk/reward element associated with the back 9, especially holes 11-16. That said, I agree, not a big fan of ultra exclusive courses like Shinnecock or Winged Foot, prefer Bethpage Black to them or Torrey Pines to a LACC or Bel Air CC. I do like Southern Hills though and wasn’t that fond of new courses Chambers Bay or Erin Hills. Pebble Beach on the other hand is a no brainer great course…to watch any tournament, including the ATT Pro Am, as is St Andrews. But I see where you’re coming from…I’ve played Torrey Pines, both the North & South courses…but I’ve never played Minnikota or Interlachen, although I’ve driven by both countless times over the past 40’years! 😉I know I may be in the minority here, but the US Open is my least favorite MAJOR to watch on tv. Great post! Nailed it. It’s the United States OPEN. It should be held at a public course every year.
As far as Pinehurst goes specifically, the course has held up really well with zero wind at all. I can’t think of many courses worldwide where only 8 players would be under par with ZERO wind. With the golf ball going miles and the driver technology the way it is, the pros will turn nearly any course into a birdie fest in dome weather conditions.
I really, really like the Swede Aberg, his style & calm persona, plays quickly & decisively! Future super ⭐️
I'm of mixed feelings on this (and haven't been watching at all this year, so nothing to add in the immediate sense). I have commented in the past that it seems the USGA goes out of its way to trick out the courses. As opposed to The Open Championship where, yes, the course has lots of difficult things to deal with, but, they're ALWAYS there.
I volunteered at the 2009 PGA Championship at Hazeltine, so I was on the grounds all week long, and had a tour of everything the weekend of The Open Championship after the course had been shut down and was being groomed for the PGA. We got out on the course, and the fairways were roughly equivalent to the greens that I played on at the time at the local public courses. Then, on Sunday, after Tiger/Yang passed, my best friend and I got out onto one of the greens (being volunteers with full-course access badges is great), and, it was about as smooth as a pool table (a little more give to the surface, of course).
Even with my level of "skill" golfing at the time, I suspect that playing the course that was set up for the PGA would drop at least a couple strokes off my average.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Holy Smokes Rory! This is getting fun! Rory & Bryson tied @ -7
