Tiger going to miss the cut by a wide margin today. He’s +9 for the tournament going to 17. Cut line right now is even IIRC.
Tough to play with a shattered ankle. This car wreck has significantly affected how he can swing a golf club (at least for now). Just glad he’s still able to tee it up…but it’s going to be awhile (if ever) regarding Tiger getting back to being competitive at a Major.
I can’t believe Tiger only walks with a slight limp considering how badly he mangled his leg. That in itself is a victory for him. Being able to play a semi-competitive round of golf is just icing on the cake.
I wouldn’t call 20 strokes back and missing the cut “semi-competitve”

This St Jude's Playoff is insane. One the 3rd playoff hole, and the players can't hit a fairway (or green on this last hole) to save their life.

I run a friendly golf league in the SE area of the cities (Emerald Greens). I have room for additional teams, so if you are interested, let me know. You can email me at [email protected]. It goes 16 weeks. 2 person teams. We have our own handicap system, so anyone can succeed. We have golfer handicaps (9-hole HCP) ranging from 4-30. (I'm the 4 and my partner is the guy with the 30. Despite his (literal) HCP, he plays at a good pace) We start at 4:45 on Tuesdays. You can get a look at my Gopher Hockey themed golf bag.
I run an unfriendly and cut throat club at Les Bolstad. Just kidding, but we are also looking for Saturday morning players too. We used to have 425 members and had to cap it, but numbers have declined the past 15 years.
The University of Minnesota Golf Club has conducted tournaments at Les Bolstad Golf Course since 1968, last year had about 130 members and Saturday morning starting at 8 AM is when most of our events are held.
We usually have a schedule of 13 Saturday events, a season long match play, a season long four ball competition and a Saturday/Sunday Club Championship each year, awarding prizes for gross and net scores based on USGA handicaps. Each event has anywhere from 60-120 players signed up with players flighted by handicap into fields of about 12-20. The first event is scheduled for April 8 and the final event is September 30.
There is also a season-long points competition to qualify for a shootout event toward the end of the year. We also have some intra-club competitions for the top performing single digit handicap players run by the Minnesota Public Golf Association.
Here is our membership form, the membership dues pay for handicapping, supporting club operations and fund the prize pool for the shootout/miscellaneous club prizes.
Public - $110
Alumni - $90
Staff - $80
Under 30 - $50
Student - $30
The rates are the standard ones from the course—the main objective of the club is to support the course and grow the game. A patron card is a good investment if you think you’ll play at least 10 rounds, season pass if you think you’ll top 35 rounds.

Ahh—the good old days at Bolstad. I’d throw my clubs on my back and bike from campus to the course. I played a lot of rounds there.
An amateur is currently alone in second place at the Masters with 4 holes to play in his second round
that’s scary as hell.

Just saw a close up of this and there’s a person in between the 2 trees when it lands.
Play suspended for the day...the leaders made it through 6 with Koepka at -13.
What a playoff! That last shot was amazing!

@the-rube Jordan had 2 putts that should gone in and now needs a miracle putt to keep alive.
I've been watching since about hole 12.

Hey @eric-vegoe, I know you're active at the UofM golf course so maybe you know what's going on there....
What the hell are they doing with the original clubhouse? Are there plans to fix/rehab it or are they waiting for it to fall down? It's such a cool building and it's sad to watch it rot away.

From what I’ve heard it’s an asbestos problem in the original U of M clubhouse. Super expensive to renovate and super expensive to tear down. So they avoid it using that trailer thing. I heard this from a Carlson grad who took a golf class four years ago so who knows if it’s accurate or not.

The asbestos problem makes the expense to do anything to the building going forward very challenging. The reason it got closed in the first place was that the water main that runs through the clubhouse froze one winter, flooded parts of the building and then mold spread throughout the structure. It's too bad because when I first started playing there it had locker rooms to store clubs, take showers and a lounge to hangout in after the rounds or wait out weather with some indoor putting contests.
No one at the University is taking responsibility for the property these days. It transitioned from athletics ownership to recreation/wellness around 2011-2012 and the trailers were a temporary solution that have gone past their original intended lifetime.
Great Saturday at Oak Hill for the PGA Championship so far. Played thru rain in the morning clearing this afternoon. Koepka and DeChambeau paired up, Rory making a run, Rose hanging in and Hovland might finally realize his potential. But that’s all secondary cause a club pro from Cali is playing his ass off and charming the crowd and the country. Who’s not rooting for Block?
Watching these guys try to drive the green on the par 4 14th known as Bunker Hill rivals the 17th at the Players.
final pairing Sun Koepka and Hovland. 2 very likeable guys, Block paired with Rory might be the most likeable pairing in golf history sure to get lots of coverage
Looking like Koepka is gonna run away with this
Michael Block just got a hole in 1 on 15
Aloha!
I noticed DeChambeau hung around to give Koepka a congratulatory handshake after Brooks won the PGA! ?
Finished tied for 15th, which gets him into next year's PGA Championship at Valhalla. That was a great story for the tournament.Michael Block just got a hole in 1 on 15
I am getting pretty frustrated. My wife will only let me play every other week, and wants me home by lunch time. We have a 6 year old and a 2 year old.
Last weekend I played my 3rd round of golf for the year, and none of them hav been less than 4.5 hours. I have teed off on a Saturday or Sunday before 8:00am each time. 4:34 at Braemar was my quickest round. Last weekend was 4:48 at the Royal Golf Club. That is unacceptable, and nobody seems to care. I haven't seen a ranger or marshal our enforcing pace of play (or anything really) in several years. Early AM weekend tee-times should be pace setter times.
Tee times during that time period have become next to impossible to get, even as a single. (hence me driving from the SW metro to Lake Elmo for a 7:30am tee time on a Saturday). I am logging in at midnight 6-7 days out when the courses are releasing tee times and they are gone within seconds. Sometimes I am on there right at 12:00:01 and there is nothing until 2:30pm or later. Are bots taking these tee times or something?!? I don't get it how they are gone before they are released. Or are that many people buying patron cards at courses?
Several courses even block people from booking as a single and have to call the proshop. So I only get a tee-time if someone booked as a group of three and there is an opening. Most people book for 4 and then only cancel their open spot the night before, if they even do. I have witnessed enough people checking in, saying their fourth would not be coming 20 minutes before they tee off. Maybe I just need to go to a course and wait for a no-show or cancellation.
I heard the Royal Golf Club was going private within the year. It was $96 to walk, and they've got a lot of work to do to bring to a $100 walking course, let alone private level. Watching 4 guys in their 60s smoke cigars and spend 15 minutes on each green putting like they've got $100,000 on the line is aggravating.
I am not even that good of a golfer. I shoot 91-95 like clockwork, I just do play/practice enough to get better. I cannot avoid the snowman once per round either. However, I can play 18 walking in about 3 hours if nobody is in front of me. I know that is unrealistic to expect that, but asking for 4:15 shouldn't be. Walking to and waiting on nearly every single shot SUCKS. That just isn't enjoyable. Neither is getting yelled at when I get home for being gone for 6 hours because golf took nearly 5 hours to play.
Many of the courses near me have become prohibitively expensive (for me), and/or mandatory carts. I enjoy the walk and prefer to walk, though I understand some courses the housing was the priority and there are distances to cover going form green to tee. Stonebrooke is $90+ and a mandatory cart. The Wilds is $100 and requires a cart during certain times of the day. Meadows at Mystic is $130 and requires a cart. Chaska Town Course (a nice muni) is $80 but good luck getting a tee time. Braemar is a STEAL at $64 but if you aren't an Edina resident, chances are slim to none you're getting a weekend tee time. Loggers Trail is a great walking rate, I just wish it wasn't a 45 minute drive for me each way. Capitalism, the courses are going to charge what they can and clearly there is a market for it. I am willing to pay too, I just wish I wasn't so g*****n hard to get a tee time.
We need to stop growing the game and get some people to quit! haha.
I'll end my rant now.
I don't know you, so if this suggestion isn't appropriate for you, I apologize. (If that's you in your profile picture, you look athletic enough for this) I suggest you try speedgolf. I would be happy to help you. I usually do my speedgolfing at Fountain Valley in Rosemount (which might be a bit of a drive for you--It's SE metro). I don't get a tee time, I just get there 15 minutes or so early. Since I'm running the course, they don't mind letting me go out ahead. We typically carry 4-6 clubs with a 'Sunday' bag (I have an extra you could use) And then you just golf. Hit the ball and then run/jog/trot. I used to be able to finish 18 in around 56 minutes, but now that I'm old, I'm more like 65 minutes. This would be on a weekday. If we start at 5:30 and take 90 minutes, you're done at 7:00. (it should take less) Depending on where you work and do they have a shower, the timing still may not work for you. Most people do as well speedgolfing as they do with slow golf.
I can't speak to the golf aspects, but there's a reason Fightclub30 is the GPL go-to on hockey officiating. That's him as a linesman at a Gophers game several years ago.I don't know you, so if this suggestion isn't appropriate for you, I apologize. B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Have you tried Ridges at Sand Creek (Jordan), Bluff Creek (EP), Creeksbend (New Prague) or Heritage Links (Lakeville)? Those are all walkable courses that I don't think break the bank.
I haven't played Deer Run (Victoria) in a while, but they were big on pace of play when played there.

That would be interesting. Tough thing is getting my kids on the bus, and to daycare in the mornings before work. Wife works with an "off-shore" (India or Ireland depending on project) team and will often have odd meeting times, so morning routine lands on me 98% of the time. I will keep that in mind for the future though, it sounds like an interesting concept. I already only play 11 clubs, so I am halfway to a Sunday bag, haha. Driver, hybrid, 5-G, a specialty wedge, and a putter. A guy who shoots in the 90s has no need for a fairway wood or 4 different wedges. Someday when I have more time to practice and play, sure. Right now, I just stick to the clubs I am comfortable with.

I haven't played Deer Run (Victoria) in a while, but they were big on pace of play when played there.
Ridges at Sand Creek used to be a go-to, but has been more difficult to get tee times. There was a period of time I wouldn't go there due to a big detour I needed to take for a massive road project, and they had something like 3 or 4 temporary greens either last year or the year before. Might need to try them again.
Pioneer Creek (similar course to Ridges in my mind) used to be a go-to as well, but has become- pretty difficult to get early weekend tee times. Walkable and a decent rate though.
Bluff Creek is very close to me, a few years ago I kept running into events here maybe I will have to try them again as I haven't looked recently. The guy at Halla Greens will occasional let me go past normal times, I get my 2 year old down at 7:00 and then go play as many holes as I can. I can finish 9 in around 30-35 minutes without any running (par 29). I usually only bring a putter and 3 irons and force myself to get creative.
I haven't played Creeksbend before. I used to play Willinger's often, and would sometimes play Heritage Links, haven't played there in several years though. For some reason I thought that course was lost to housing... but clearly, looking at Google, that isnt the case. Maybe I am thinking of another Lakeville course??? My cousin took me to Crystal Lake once, but again struggled with the 5 hour round there and just am generally not a fan of courses routed through neighborhoods.
Deer Run I haven't played in several years as someone threatened to call the cops on me for attempting to retrieve my golf ball (not hit it, just pick it up, didn't even have a club in my hand) from their yard. I didn't cross a fence line or painted line, I didn't trample landscaping either. Had no idea it was private property and the guy just started cussing me out and screaming at me. Looking at tee times for next weekend, there actually are some openings. Maybe I should give it a try again, hopefully that a-clown moved away from a golf course.
I went and played Shadowbrooke last year once, even at $35... that's all I needed there. The constant side-by-side opposite direction golf holes with people frequently playing the wrong fairway gets a little old, and dangerous. Almost got hit by errant shots twice in the same round. So clearly there is a happy medium in that $50-$70 range that still gets you good quality, interesting golf, and keeps some of the really bad golfers away? Or maybe just more land to keep them further apart? I've ended up in the wrong fairway before, but there I felt like someone was in the wrong fairway on nearly every hole.
I know you're going to hate this, but there is another side to the coin in that some people don't want to feel like they are being rushed out there. Golf has turned into a speed contest and it's like people are so focused on how quickly they can play a round. I have no issue letting faster players play through, but playing as quickly as possible is not and will never be a focus for me. I'm out there to enjoy my time and being outside at a beautiful course, and not rushing around is part of that.

I don't hate that, I have absolutely no problem with that. And as long as you are playing close to a 4:15 pace (or whatever is published for the course), no issues. There should be zero rush needed to play in 4:15. Especially when courses publish that as pace of play and an expectation. I don't think playing in 4:15 is a speed competition. I can walk 18 in 4:15 at a pretty leisurely pace. And 9 times out of 10, when I am waiting on a shot, the people behind me are as well. So it isn't like I am rushing around playing much faster than everyone else.
4:45-5:00 is just too long at local municipal courses. If I am up at Giant's Ridge or something, I expect that to take a bit longer. At a local, non-premium course, it should take 4:00-4:20 at most.
I don't care for an extra 30-45 minutes per round. The 2 biggest offenders I see are people spending well over 5 minutes looking for a lost ball multiple times throughout the round (3 minutes is the rule). And those taking WAY too long on the putting greens, like watching each person putt out before even lining up your own. If you're that worried about your lost ProV1, maybe don't play ProV1s?
The biggest offender I see is people playing the wrong tees. My dad turned 60 and it still took a few years to convince him to move from the white tees to the gold. It seems like 90% of people play from the white tees and most shouldn’t be. There’s a stigma of playing the shorter tees, but it’s better suited for most people and more fun.
And for the record, I despise slow play. I highly approve of ready golf. If you’re ready, hit the ball. You don’t have to follow the competitive rules of the person farthest from the pin has to hit first. Go to your ball, play it, and move on.
You don’t have to rush to finish in 4:15. As Snowcool said, play ready golf. Hit “out of turn” if the other players aren’t ready. If you miss the put by a few feet, don’t mark—putt out. If you are sharing a cart, drop one player off at their bal with a couple of clubs, then drive over to your ball. Is your pre-shot routine over 20 seconds? Multiply by how many shots you take—it’s like the pitchers clock—you can cut that time in half (times 4 players). And many players take way to many practice swings. Don’t rush, play efficiently.
Whoa…did not see this coming.

And so all is forgiven? I'm not sure the PGA players will feel that way.
Complete and total stunner. Nobody in the golf world saw this one coming. Greg Norman didn't even know!
I thought it was an Onion article when I first saw it. I’m shocked.

Think about the guys who cashed in by signing on with LIV and now they get to go back to the PGA. Think of the all the guys in the PGA who didn't cash in and are kicking themselves in the butt for not doing so.

Aloha!
So will the PGA and LIV have tournaments on the same day ?
I guess that they are combining the three tours into one. I really haven't dove into the particulars if there are any right now.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
Remember PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan and Jim Nance spewing moral outrage on the air, over the LIV Tour and where the money for it was coming from? Apparently that cash is okay now though, right? As long as it can buy things and the checks don't bounce, NOTHING else matters in pro sports. Save the ethics and philosophy for classes with the Jesuits.
Fun to see Fowler leading halfway thru the US Open, he’s easy to root for.
On the other end, Justin Thomas shoots an 81 in round 2 to miss the cut at +14, 24 shots behind Fowler.
Hovland with one of the best up and downs you’ll ever see at 18.
Xander with a crazy round of par to save his chances.
Jon Rahm barely makes the cut, a month ago he was a world beater.
Wyndham Clark leading the US Open through 6 holes today at -12. Going to the 18th hole yesterday evening, Rickie Fowler was -11 and Clark was -9. Since then, Fowler is +3 and Clark -3. Fowler has lost 6 shots to Clark in the last 7 holes. I was really hoping this would be the breakthrough for Fowler, but it's not looking positive at all right now. Rory McIlroy is at -10 through 7.
Clark took chance after chance, made ridiculous save after ridiculous save and wins the US Open! Friggin awesome!
Sorry Rory! 😉
