Let’s f’n goooooooo!!!!!!
Seeing Faber get announced as a starter in this game is awesome
That US National Anthem will be a hard act to follow. Chills. Wowza
I haven’t seen Werenski since he played at Michigan (cause who’s watching Columbus games) but he has been an absolute stud in this tourney
I wonder what the chances are that Russia will be in the Winter Olympics next year? Would be cool to see Kaprisov in games like this.
Binnington is such a DB
Swapping Matthews and Eichel pays off quickly
Holy crap Brady Tkachuk is a man possessed
Not seeing much impact from Makar so far
USA was getting run for the first half of that period, so that goal was huge.
They need to get shots on Binnington because the US has a goaltending advantage.
Boldy bumped up to Guentzels line? Sullivan is t f’n around
McAvoy’s replacement scores. Fitting.
McAvoy’s replacement scores. Fitting.
He might’ve played at UND, but he’s also from Whitefish, Mt!!!
Keep your stick on the ice...
Really bad breakout pass by Fox on the tying CAN goal
Really bad breakout pass by Fox on the tying CAN goal
Adam Fox is struggling tonight. He looks nicked up, not his typical pace of play.
USA needs Jack Hughes to come to LIFE
Looks like M Tkachuk done for the night
The one downfall of an in season tourney is the potential risks of players getting injured and missing time during a playoff run.

Tough to lose both Tkachuk and McAvoy while Canada gets Makar back. Hope they can find a way to pull this out but it's going to be a heavyweight tilt of a 3rd period.
Both teams are playing suffocating defense but USA can win if they get pucks on the net.
Jake Sanderson when asked about scoring” I just kinda blacked out”. Watch your toes fella
I don't know the rules for this. Is it OT Forever, or SO?
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
US with great defense at the end of regulation
Has any Canadian team ever gone through a regulation game without a single penalty?

nevermind. Some heathens on here have never seen nor heard of it. 😉 (inside joke, I admit)

He had a chance to keep the puck in with about a minute plus left that would have meant a scoring chance but opted to back out. Lucky he did because if he failed to make that play, Canada had numbers coming out of the zone. He's such a smart player. No surprise, Faber making Gopher Nation proud!
Faber just shutdown McDavid twice on 1 shift
Well, fudge. I'll be drowning kittens now.

At least it wasn’t Cindy with the game winner.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Of course now we get a mcdavid golden goal that we’ll discuss forever
I have the perfect meme (I edited) coming "if" Team USA wins on Thursday... I've been holding (1996) on to this quote/meme for an opportunity like this. If not, it'll go back for a future date... lol!!!
Back to the vault it goes…

High slot uncovered...what? Bennington pulled a couple out of his a** to steal one for his team.
That game should have been over on the Guentzel to Mathews set up in OT
was one of the few times all game they got mcdavid out against not slavin/faber because of the icing. Hanifin was meh to me all tourney and that pairing gave it up. He and Fox were both -2 with no points in the tourney
There needed to be a forward out that high to cover McDavid. One defenseman had his guy in the crease and not sure where the other one was...probably chasing Marner. Mathews was probably the guy who needed to cover 97.Of course now we get a mcdavid golden goal that we’ll discuss forever

Too bad because US was the better team in OT and had better scoring chances for most of the game.
Something tells me Fox has been nursing an injury, he simply looked slow in defensive coverage, that contributed to Matthews not staying high, the threat of Marner walking out on his fore-hand, still would have been better than leaving McDavid open though. That said, the play of 22 year old D…Brock Faber & Jake Sanderson…was impressive & bodes well for the future of Team USA Hockey! There needed to be a forward out that high to cover McDavid. Maybe Hartman should have been on the team just to mess with Bennington. Hartman seems to be able to get under his skin and throw him off his game. ( I'm kidding )

Loved the bit before the game where they showed TeamUSA in the locker room and the Herb Brooks pregame speech as if he were talking to them.
LOL.. I’m not sure I even want Hartman on the Wild after this season. He plays like he attended (but failed to graduate) college in Grand Forks!Where’s Maybe Hartman should have been on the team just to mess with Bennington. Hartman seems to be able to get under his skin and throw him off his game.

personally I hated it. To try equate these 2 as cultural moments or as if it was at all like a similar level of difference in talent was silly. We weren’t some scrappy underdog no one picked to win
super cool tournament and moment. Let it be its own thing
@upnorthkid They could have also skipped showing as much of Eruzione's mug as they did IMO.

I joked that it sealed the L. 😆
Kinda sucks that Canada won the second of two close games for all the marbles instead of the other way around but whatever, it was a good series with two really well played close games. Hard to sweep a team of that caliber especially when they want revenge. Guessing they won't do this every year especially with NHL players back in Olympics next year but I liked the format and they could probably expand the number of teams.
Felt like Canada winning was more relief than excitement. Celebration was muted. If the US won, it would have been pandemonium.
Hockey is a cruel sport that often rewards luck and circumstance.
Despite missing two key players, the US team had better chances to win the game and in OT many point blank tries by a world-class goal scorer. Instead, it was a struggling superstar who salted the game away for the opposition after the US team made one of its few defensive mistakes.
Binnington was the difference in the game, so it's not like Canadians can gush about how much better they are than the Americans. They may have the top 3 or 4 players but they were not the better team in either game -- and the game tally ended at 1 -1.
It was tough to watch Matthew's miss his assignment covering McDavid lead to the OT goal. He had so many fantastic defensive plays over the previous four games. I would have liked to see the US win, but more than anything else I just missed watching best on best competition. I am looking forward to the Olympics and World Cup. The game needs these moments to grow.
Jaccob Slavin is my new favorite player in the league. My god is he good. The angles and stickwork he uses to play defense is a marvel. How it escaped my attention that he has won two Lady Byng trophies is beyond me.

1 of 4 defensemen to win the Lady Byng
Bill Quakenbush: 48-49
Red Kelly: 50-51, 52-53 & 53-54
Brian Campbell: 11-12
Jaccob Slavin: 20-21 & 23-24

on the subject of missing players, it won't get talked much about (and probably shouldn't), but M Tkachuk electing to play hurt really put the US in a bind. It was pretty clear from the get go he wasn't going to be able to go, but having he, Kreider, and Trochek all logging 10 min or less just kills you late in the game, especially when you've played this many high intensity games in rapid succession. Don't really know what Sullivan was doing in scratching Connor in this situation
