No one should be surprised by this. But it still sucks that we’re going backwards. Again. Hoping we don’t have to be kicked out of the college areas but I’m not holding my breath.

I'm feeling less confident that the NHL players will be going to the Olympics. It would be so Minnesota that a Wild player would get covid over there.
They won't go. If they play hockey it'll be some random US scrubs playing in Europe or the KHL.
The word on Twitter is that Maurice held a "bag skate" last night, then resigned the next morning.
Seems... odd.

time for a 2 week break
What is the Wild doing differently to remain relatively healthy? Whatever that might be I hope they keep it up.

Most likely just having good luck so far.
Lots of rumors on twitter that the NHL is shutting down the whole schedule later this week.
Lots of rumors on twitter that the NHL is shutting down the whole schedule later this week.
They are talking about to the remaining games this week ( tomorrow) and all team practices this week and start again after the scheduled Christmas break. They are requiring the players to test negative to be allowed into team facilities. Some could read into your post as shutting down for the year.

No longer a rumor.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply it was for the season. Just an early start to the break.

I don't blame either side on this. To possibly lose a player for over a month could be detrimental to a team and a player could lose up to that long in salary. The big issue now is USA Hockey scrambling to fill a roster with players in the minors or college who won't mind the possibility of losing that much time.

Between the times of the games and not having the best players again, it won't even be a blip on most peoples' radars.
I do like Olympic hockey. It’s great and provided a lot of great memories for many. But if we’re being realistic and logical then they should really promote a World Cup of hockey for the main international competition for NHL players. I know there is a competition like that but it’s during June so it’s during the Stanley Cup finals and no one really cares. Have a similar format to the WJC, play it in July and once every four years like soccer. Speaking of soccer they could even have it every two years if they wanted to, similar to how soccer has the WC and then it’s respective international continental competitions. I know Covid is the main reason for screwing this year up but the NHL taking an Olympic break every four years has been a discussion for a few years now. It wouldn’t be in winter but having the major professional international hockey tournament in the off season just makes the most sense. Have the IIHF run it, promote the hell out of it and like soccer or the Olympics you would of course bounce around different host countries. Imagine hanging out downtown St Paul on a beautiful July day, polishing off a couple of cold ones and heading down to the Xcel to watch USA v Canada in the Hockey World Cup Final broadcasted around the world, announced by Al Michels or Mike Turico.
*Also, have it on summers that are opposite soccer competitions so you’re not competing for viewership. Especially in European countries.
Ask the players to stay in shape the whole summer too? Real fair
Olympics every four years is fine. Hopefully Italy works out better.
It would be like ten days in the beginning of July. Not the whole summer. Obviously there would be some tweaking but it could definitely be done. Soccer does it every two years. Before anyone bites my head off, yes I know hockey is a more physical sport soccer but that doesn’t change that there are high level athletes in a similarly scheduled sport working with off season competitions. It wouldn’t be every summer either. I think it only being every four years would make it easier for players to deal with. Maybe not. But the NHL didn’t play in 18 and they’re not playing this year for two very different reasons. So who knows what Italy ‘26 will bring. Not to be utterly depressing but we might still be dealing with Covid. This would be hockey competition, run by a hockey federation, for exclusively hockey players and fans. I love the Olympics but one component (for better or worse) is you’re playing at a multi sport competition that has a lot of moving parts.
Sounds like the right thing to do.

It makes me laugh. But you might be surprised the number of people it bothers... "He is making it all about him." "Nobody wants to know who the stripes are, just do your job" etc. I think he is just trying to make people laugh, and have a little fun. You have to "read the room" and know you can't do that with certain teams/games/situations. I think he knows that and picks his spots well. It still bugs a lot of people. I mean, someone in the NHL, let alone a referee has a personality? Or has fun working? There are plenty of people who do like it though, so that's good.
For example:

I only hate it when he's disallowing a Wild goal, or allowing one against them.
The NHL is ultimately an entertainment product and that probably has something to do with why they hire more colorful refs like him. Personally, Wes telling guys to fuck off once in a while or doing stuff like that is the least of the NHL's reffing problem.

Well... GE did specify that "He" had a problem, so, the correction is valid.
Doesn't mean her list is worth a damn, though.

Overall from that article I would say like 20+ NHL jerseys are solid to great. So hard to rank them but I'll always be biased to the winged wheel.

Pitlick (#32) goal.
Time for @cowgirl to buy a Habs Pitlick jersey ya think?
We still can’t get answer if they ever even made the Wild one yet or not. ?
I hope he does well and makes the Wild regret their decision. Hell, I hope he scores a hat trick against us next Monday.

All he does is score goals. :good2:
The Wild already had way too many goal scorers.
