The Pohlads put money first and couldn't care less if they win, unless it will make them more money.Comparing Leipold and the Wild to the Pohlads and Twins is a really bad take
Why? It is not a compliment to him in any way (and they deserve zero compliments) and he is doing exactly what they do. The only difference is there is a salary cap in hockey and the Pohlad's make their own salary cap.
Leipold has always been willing to spend whatever it takes to try and win.
They are not similar in any way as it pertains to operating a franchise.
The Twins did not do well for attendance in the regular season relative to their record - 19th overall. Which means several teams not in the playoffs did better.
Right but the point is next year the team will likely be worse (or at best similar) and attendance will be about the same. As long as the team doesn't bottom out they know exactly how many fans to expect. If the team overperforms they will even likely beat projections.
The attendance will drop.

Capacity is 39,000. How much revenue does 10k more per game over 81 games generate? At an average of $30 per seat is 24m just in ticket sales.
Don't they just write-off losses anyway? I know it's not 1 for 1 but come on.
What about when negotiating TV contracts? If the team is on average more interesting to watch over time that generates more eyeballs therefore more advertising opportunities. I'm sick of this franchise making excuses to cut costs.

From athletic interview with Evason:
Is Kirill Kaprizov hurt? What’s gone on with him?
I think his injury took a lot out of him. He comes back and plays two games and then the playoffs, and he’s still in recovery mode. He’s had it looked at again this year. I don’t want to give secrets out, but that’s a hard injury to recover from. Has that affected his ability to have the pace? Yes, 100 percent. I do believe that. Kirill Kaprizov is trying his ass off. He just hasn’t found his skating pace that we are accustomed to.
Okay, obviously I was wrong. Apparently the Wild will go undefeated for the remainder of the season. ? ?It would have been hard to believe not that long ago, but for me the Wild are now solidly entrenched as the worst franchise in town. They seem to have no cogent direction and because of cap restrictions, would appear to have no way getting to such a place even if they had a logical plan. I agree with the idea that Leipold has a lot of the blame in this, not looking at the long game even if it means merely getting to the post-season, but not being a legitimate threat. There is nothing at all about the John Hynes hire that gives me any reason for excitement or hope. This team is going to be an also-ran for a long time.

Gus is starting to resemble an NHL goaltender again, they’ll win a few here and there as a result.
Of course a Dewar hat trick won’t hurt either.
Yeah you read that right. A Connor Dewar hat trick.

All this town does is win.

Hynes puts Faber on the PP and Boom.

Spurgeon getting hurt is what put Faber on the PP, but hopefully Hynes is smart enough to figure it out. He was smart enough to break up the Brodin/Spurgeon PK pairing, so there is hope.Hynes puts Faber on the PP and Boom.

You would realize I made that caveat when I posted if you actually read the posts before you decided to respond to them.
But thanks for confirming what I said I guess...
@j22 Hopefully he gets some say in who the Captain should be. Obviously it won't change this year but having Spurgeon as the Captain is silly.
Fleury starting yesterday tells me that Guerin is still dictating lineup decisions.@j22 Hopefully he gets some say in who the Captain should be. Obviously it won't change this year but having Spurgeon as the Captain is silly.
I'm not sure that the Wild even have anyone that would be a decent captain anyway
Might as well give it to Faber, it's only a matter of time
Faber will definitely have a letter sooner or later. They already shuffle him out in front of the press a lot for a rookie.
Well. As the Wild are on their way to winning four in a row maybe Guerin is smarter than all of us.
Who are these Minnesota Wild and what have you done with them?
Well. The dream is over. Shutout in Vancouver and a tough trip to follow.
Wonder how different the outcome might have been had they got even just 1 goal during the first 15 minutes or so where they completely dominated VAN.
That game was a classic set-up. It was the second game in three nights for the Wild after traveling. They shot all their bullets in the first period and ended 0-1. It didn't help that Vancouver's goalie was both lucky and good.
Everybody on the Vancouver team knew it was a minor miracle they weren't down by 3 goals. They came out of the tunnel ready to play and Minnesota was probably frustrated and tired. The Wild played okay in the final two periods but lost the momentum they created in the first 15 minutes.
It was almost like the Gophers v Penn St Friday game with the Wild being like Penn St and coming out hot and the Canucks being the Gophers by surviving most of period 1 and winning the game.

McDavid is so much fun to watch, amazing acceleration and quickness yet he hardly appears to be moving.

Obviously not....even when he had a full mane.

What a AWFUL play by Johansson. In the O zone recklessly fired a pass right on to McDavids stick, leads to Edm goal…pure stupidity
That’s a good way to start the second.

It's an automatic in tonight's game, if the Oilers score it must be pointed out the Wild got to their hotel at 3AM.

Currently getting outshot 35-11. They're back.
Gasp! Could it be that the problem WASN'T just the coach???? ? ? ? Of course, as long as they have a solid locker room that's all that matters.
A big goaltender might have made one or two more stops. Fleury hasn't been much better than Stalock coming off the bench. Maybe his numbers are better, don't know, but he seems vulnerable in the corners and on screened shots.
The Wild has had success on this trip in the past. The book on Edmonton is shutting down their big line. If you don't, the odds are against you.
This is a .500 club so I'll enjoy the game experience without worrying about who they'll play for the Stanley Cup.

Luckily they play a terrible team tonight, because that lineup looks rough. I like that Hynes is willing to shake things up a bit, but I don't see much to like with those lines. Hopefully he finds something that works well.
Boldy with a wicked good move to score off an excellent pass from KK.

Anyone else getting intermittent glitching on the tv broadcast - or is my tv about to die? ?
3-0 final and it was a good offensive showing.

@cowgirl I got it as well on my Hulu feed.
I have Comcast, unfortunately, which is a wasteland of glitchy, pixelating, freezing video feed.
That said, I've read online that Bally's programming is itself a disservice to technology, and I have never watched a Bally broadcast without holding back on several remote-throwing moments.
So in about a week the Wild started a road trip Calgary, then to Vancouver, Edmonton, and finally to Seattle. NHL schedule makers must be geographically challenged, bitter, or drunk.

Another, "Everyone but me is the problem" move. I couldn't even tell you who the current owners are but how gullible are they?
If he was actually responsible for contract negotiations, then he absolutely deserved to lose his job. I don't really think he was guy doing the negotiations though.
He clearly wasn't either smart enough or loud enough to save Guerin from himself.

My spidey sense tells me that there is more to the story. Per Russo, O'Hearn recently signed a new deal and was on the latest roadtrip without Guerin. It is customary to at least to pretend to wish the "fired" employee the best for their service. We only got "The Wild will not comment further on this matter." hmmm...
