Gus has gotten more of the starts the last while, and will going forward. I don’t think it was crazy to start out the year heavier on Fleury.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

Yeah but Cam Talbot...

What? Cam Talbot? That sounds like something people block on social media sites.
That "fight" is up there with dumbest things I've ever seen in a hockey game.
Reaves has a goal and a fight in the first period. Just needs an assist.
5 total goals on 22 total shots so far in AZ.
What would happen if in a hockey fight someone landed a punch to the head just right and say seriously injured or killed the other guy?
Fighting is just dumb. We don’t condone it in schools, or other places of work. Why is it acceptable and lauded in sports? I guarantee you if I did that in my workplace I’d be out of a job. As professional athletes they should be setting way better examples. It’s unnecessary. But that’s just my opinion, so take it easy on me.
I generally agree with what you are saying. The counter argument has always been that fights polices the game because if somebody is taking cheap shots at other players they will end up needing to fight to answer for what they did. I am not arguing for fighting. IMO the refs calling penalties and the league with suspensions has the potentially to handle cheap shots without needing fighting.
Are you allowed to slam people into the walls where you work? Do you carry a stick with you and smack people in the shins with it if they get in your way? What would happen if in a hockey fight someone landed a punch to the head just right and say seriously injured or killed the other guy?

There’s a difference between a physical game and outright violence.
I don’t agree with egregious hits along the boards either or any other intent to injure.
And I know you’ll never agree with me. ?♀️
There are a bunch of valid arguments on why fighting should be removed from hockey. Considering a player cross checked a linesman from behind and ended his career, and kept playing for several seasons... I doubt anything more would happen that a "Maximum fine allowed under the CBA" or whatever.
Gus with a rare off night.
Well. Got a point at least.
Gus with a rare off night.
4 goals on 17 shots. Not sure what happened to the stingy Wild team defense tonight, but they went from not giving up a shot in 10 minutes to letting in 2 goals to give back their cushion.
This team needs to collect on crappy teams, so this was a lost opportunity tonight.
They have some good young players and that team might be one to watch with Cooley coming in.

With all the concussion issues in sports I’m surprised fighting is still allowed in NHL.

I would agree that the use of the comparison like someone punching a coworker at the office is more of a simile. "I am a night owl" is a metaphor. The two are often confused.
Anyhoo, the topic of fighting in the NHL is always an entertaining one. If it were important to the players that it's eliminated, why doesn't the union step in? Isn't this what unions are for? It's their raison d'etre. The only rational conclusion is that the players support fighting.*
*I have little use for such senseless violence, but it is immensely popular among the philistines. I guess after all this civilization we still have an appetite for gladiators.
@streakygopher If the players support fighting then they shouldn't file lawsuits down the road for concussion related issues

It is a contradiction, but then so is the sport itself.
For the same reason, an argument can be made that the NFL should be banned. Instead, cautionary measures are taken and players accept the risk.
I don't think anyone really wants to keep fighting in the game, I think a lot of people are worried about what happens if you ban it. None of this would be an issue if the league had even the tiniest bit of leadership.
If thug-like stickwork and the like were better enforced by the refs and the league with suspensions and fines that hurt it's possible a lot of fighting would become obsolete in time. That might be naive, but would it kill the league to experiment with serious enforcement for an entire season and see what results may come?
Yeah, I've never understood, and never heard a decent explanation as to why the league refuses to clean up their game and protect their players. Create a league where guys like Matt Cooke and Tom Wilson aren’t assets, and the fighting would probably kill itself offIf thug-like stickwork and the like were better enforced by the refs and the league with suspensions and fines that hurt it's possible a lot of fighting would become obsolete in time. Wild slated to be the second half of the TNT doubleheader tonight. Hopefully we won’t get screwed again.
Fighting isn't present in youth hockey, juniors, and college hockey. They seem to do just fine without the game devolving into a debacle.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Not only is the NHL failing at protecting their players from the cheap and dirty hits, but they are now protecting the scumbags from having to answer for their nonsense. And, if the NHL could simply easily suspect players who make dangerous hits, teams may not feel they need to start a fight to "punish" someone who was making dirty plays. Most of those leagues don't have players whose main role is to injure the other teamFighting isn't present in youth hockey, juniors, and college hockey. Fighting was VERY present in Junior Hockey 10-15 years ago. The old Minnesota Junior Hockey League was a collection of mostly kids who were looking to fight and hurt someone out there. Not a lot of talent. But hey, Pay to Play...
Ever since USA Hockey adjusted the Junior rulebook (separate from the USA Hockey rulebook) to make major penalties a sliding scale, it reduced drastically. When I was in the USHL, just about every week there was a line brawl somewhere, to now those are pretty rare. You still have guys scrap, but it is greatly reduced.
In 2010-2011 they also instructed the USHL and NAHL linesman where if guys were removing equipment, spinning helmets on the ice, skating around and making a show of it (like the Reaves non-fight the other night) to break it up and give them each 4 minutes. 2 for unsportsmanlike and 2 for delay of game. It was a little weird, but it stopped a lot of the dumb fights. (I have no idea if this still exists or is even needed at this point)
The NHL adopted the hybrid icing rule that originated in the USHL. Maybe they could adopt the sliding scale on fighting penalties, and get rid of the "show fights". Too bad there is enough donkeys in the crowd that cheer for that sort of thing more than goals being scored...
Apparently you can plow into the goalie to knock the puck in now
I like to think they didn’t challenge that to punish Fleury for letting the puck came back out front. But in reality it is probably just that Dumba helped Buchnevich a bit and they didn’t want to risk going shorthanded.
Fleury looks awful again.
MAF does not have his A game tonight.
Or his B game.

It's hard to blame coaches for challenging/not challenging plays like that. The league has no idea what they're doing with goaltender interference. Just about every night you will see a couple goals much softer than that get waived off and a few that are way worse that get counted as goals.I like to think they didn’t challenge that to punish Fleury for letting the puck came back out front. Nice response so far in the second. Trade deadline acquisitions have it tied. Klingberg then Sundqvist.
Edit: Shaw scores to take the lead. Three goals in 1:58.
Wild with an orgy of scoring early in the 2nd
That escalated quickly.

Want your coach dead? Pass the puck cross ice from right behind your net. That'll kill him for sure.

In 2.5 games without Kirill the Wild have scored 13 goals. Clearly he was holding back their ability to score. ?
