He looks like he barely exerts any effort at all. It's absolutely insane. He has one of the shortest extensions in all of baseball and throws 103mph.

Replay it a couple times...he finishes much faster than he starts....lot of arm whip and then the wrist snap. Not the classic power pitcher delivery.

Def snap. That's the ONLY difference I noted. It's not UGH ALL THE BODY BEHIND IT.

Snap of the wrist, that's about it. Absolutely crazy. This COULD be counter-intuitive, but imagine if he threw his body into it? Could work, or could backfire, both options in an immense factor of speed (and accuracy). Would be fun to find out, though.

For as effortless as his delivery looks, he uses his frame exceptionally well. He's got God given size and strength (evident just by looking at him, he's got a thick frame and his forearms are bigger than some pitchers legs). He uses his frame and leverages it against the ground, getting some very powerful trunk rotation out of his legs (if you watch him from behind the plate camera, you can oftentimes see his back leg's butt cheek) and counter rotation with his upper body. His lower half generates an incredible amount of force and acceleration towards the plate. When his front foot lands, he has so much stretch between his front foot and throwing shoulder (generated by the counter rotation he has with his torso compared to his hips) that he doesn't necessarily need to have the long explosive stride like some of the other hard throwers that look like they go hard every pitch by sinking further into their back leg and extending their stride farther. His core is so strong and his arm movement is so fast that he can generate an incredible amount of torque with what looks like minimal effort.

If he made some other tweaks he MIGHT be able to add another mph or two but his movements are so efficient and so powerful that it may not change much.

Leave it to the umpires in the MLB to completely wreck a game like that.

Dodgers win 2-1 and win the series 3-2.

Check swing was called a swing despite it being pretty clearly not a swing. Bummer way to end a great series.

Cool to see Bellinger come up with the game winning hit after his nightmare season.

Ouch. Why can they not review that checked swing? Not that I like reviews for everything but not fair to end a season with what seems to be an incorrect call.

No doubt. What a shame. Start the countdown to how many days before check swings are now reviewable because of this instance.

That ump had dinner reservations somewhere. He was walking off before he even made the call.

I dunno if I would go as far as saying they completely wreck the game there.

Even if he rules no swing, it's a 1-2 count with one of the best pitchers in baseball with two outs. There's a good chance strike 3 comes on the next pitch anyways.

My biggest problem with the check swing ask: the base umpire is 95-100ft away and doesn't have a great angle at it either.

Right. SF still in a big spot there.

Home ump frequently calls for the first or third base ump to make that call, so I don't have a huge problem with that either. They have the better view of the bat crossing the plate. I honestly can't pile on any of the umps here. That call is often hard to make and subjective. The umpire has a split second to make a decisive call.

Yes, it was wrong in this case, but it could just as easily gone SF's way if the batter did indeed go around, so chalk it up to the vagaries of baseball.

Showing my age a bit, but this Max Fried pitching for the Braves is skinnier than Tommy “The Blade” Hall.

Noticed the Braves catcher painted his nails to make it easier for the pitcher to see the signal.

Atlanta with some seriously aggressive base running to tie the game in the home 8th. Shock

Nice to see Eddie Rosario playing for Atlanta in the playoffs. And his team has actually WON a game already, something novel for a Twins alum ?

Unless you include Martin Perez, who came into the game down 3-2 and then 9 pitches later it was 9-2. ??

Eddie Rosario has a home run and a triple in his first two at bats tonight. He is now 12 for 27 in the post season with 3 walks so his on base % is 500.

You can't get Eddie out!!!!

I haven’t really had time to pay much attention to the postseason. Frankly I don’t care for the AL teams, they and the Dodgers have all recently won a WS. The Braves haven’t won in a while but I don’t really care for their racist cheer so I guess I’m just gonna keep watching hockey.

Nice to hear Rosario is having a good postseason though.

Eddie just hit a three run homer run!!!! He now has four hits tonight. He also had four hits in game two. In game three the Dodgers were smart they walked him twice so he only got one hit.

If the Atlanta 's set up man wouldn't have blown a 5-2 lead in the 8th inning last night. Atlanta would have swept the Dodgers and Eddie would be the run away NLCS MVP.

He is the first person ever to have 4 hits in two games of a league championship series.

Let's ease the storm here. Twins didn't think he was worth $10M. Cleared waivers so no one else wanted him. He's goes to Cleveland, puts up a .685 OPS. Gets dealt to Atlanta . Maybe he had an epiphany

Let's look back. If Twins let Mauer go because we didn't pay him...OUTRAGE! We paid him: OUTRAGE. We didn't pay Rosario. OUTRAGE. I sense a common theme here... Wink

In fairness, that OPS is weighed down heavily by the absolutely awful Jake Cave, and also the only slightly better Rob Refsnyder. Neither of whom will be long term options for the Twins. Kiriloff and Larnach both getting hurt, along with Rooker missing time allowed Cave way more playing time (37 games in LF) than he should have had. And he sucks.

Eddie just hit a three run homer (his second hit of the game) in the bottom of the 4th to put Atlanta up 4-1.

When are the Dodgers going to get smart and just walk Eddie every time? You don't mess with Eddie Ruth. ;)

Ryan Pressley is the Houston closer. Clearly the key to post season success is to have a former Twin as an important part of your team.
