St. Louis has won 17 consecutive games and clinched a wild card birth. Absolutely incredible run.
The San Diego Padres, on the other hand, have gone into a tailspin and are now 78-78 and will miss the playoffs.
Keep an eye on those pesky Mariners too. They seem to be making a postseason push. Longest playoff drought in MLB? I want to say it’s been since 2001.
Really? Built a new expensive retractable roof stadium in 1999 and soon after they become irrelevant for 20 years? Talk about anti climatic.
"What'd I do wrong?"
Well... with that ball only hitting about half-way up the Green Monster in the middle of Left Field, in any other park in MLB, that would almost certainly would have just been an out. Might not have made the warning track in a lot of parks.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
In his defense, he's watching the game via TV feed while in NY. He saw Stanton smoke a ball and react like he hit it out. Statcast had it at 95mph and 345 feet.

I am trying to think of another team that built a fancy new stadium and 2 years later became irrelevant for a decade too... hmm....
Long time baseball fan who has degraded into watching almost no baseball this whole season: thanks sucky Twins and BSN:
Watched all of last nights game, good to see the ftYankess lose and a solid game.
Dodgers v Cardinals epic so far, great pitching and hitting with some epic at bats thru only 3 innings.
Postseason Ginger Jesus strikes again
Great AB for Turner
Is Yadier Molina the best catcher in MLB history? Dude is a machine.
Wainwright dealing for StL
We’re never going to get through the postseason at this pace. I started watching almost an hour ago….and that was just last inning.
Bottom of the ninth walkoff 2 run HR to put the dodgers on to the next round.
Schildt with textbook overmanaging there in the 9th.
I was chuckling at the TBS announcer as Chris Taylor circled the bases on the game winning HR: "For the first time in history, the Giants and Dodgers will be meeting in the post-season!". I guess I was in error recently, noting the 70th anniversary of Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heard 'Round the World" against the Dodgers in the 1951 three game playoff series.

I don't remember that... I do remember a rather famous call of "The Giants win the pennant" however

That was me being a dick. While Chris83 is spiritually correct, the 1951 series was a tiebreaker to decide the regular season pennant winner, and thus counts towards the regular season and not the postseason. By MLB's official stats, Bobby Thomson never hit a postseason home run in his career.

Sure was. Reyes has been bad all year, when brought in with anyone on base.
The 1st place Giants get the luxury of facing the Wild Card winner with 106 wins on the year. LOL.

It looked like the walk-off homer came on an ill-fated slider...just sat there in the fat part of the strike zone begging to be sent out of the park. It was equal parts a weak fastball and a hanging curve, lacking the initiative to blaze by or to disappear.
I guess the guy who hit it out had been struggling of late and didn't figure to be the late-season hero on this occasion. But, come on, that was an eminently hittable pitch.

Holy heck.

Love this play! Ghost of Rod Carew, who stole home 7 times for the Twins in 1969.
Love it. That is balls.

That was so fun to watch. Arozarena was on 3B tracking exactly how long the pitcher would lean in for the sign, and tracking exactly how long it took for him to get set. He got the information he needed and executed it perfectly.
Love to see it.

The team had a 4-2 lead going into the 5th. They left one of, if not the single, most electrifying pitchers on their roster in the bullpen. They lost 9-4 as their bullpen allowed 5 runs (7, if you include the inherited runners in the 5th when Crochet issued a walk and a two run single).
The Rays were absolutely screwed.
Also, this made me laugh:

Ballgame that started two and a half hours ago only in the fourth. Looks like pitchers must be struggling on both sides tonight. (Stros-Sox)
The Rays were absolutely screwed.
It's a dumb rule, but by the book that's the rule.
It's unfortunate that that play is going to overshadow an otherwise great game.
Must be below 80 in Cali, the fans are all bundled up.
Really though they just said it’s in the 50s and low humidity so the pitchers are struggling a little more with grip.
The Rays were absolutely screwed.

I did not know he was a twin (of the double variety) and if I hadn’t seen your post I’d be super confused right now. ?
In this case, crossing streams is a good thing. Da F*?

Of all the pitchers he's ninja'd Treinen is among my 3 favorites. He's up there throwing 96-100mph and moving it like a damn whiffle ball.
Wonderfully pitched game tonight in LA. The wind definitely kept Lux's ball in the park (and maybe kept the ball in off the bat of Seager the inning before). Lux hit it 107mph at an almost perfect launch angle of 22 degrees. And it only went 370 feet to the warning track.
It's really dumb that these two teams, probably the two best in baseball this season, are playing each other in a division series.
The Rays were absolutely screwed.

I didn’t realize until I saw this that Taylor’s brother is right handed. He’s the first twin I’ve known or read about that was opposite handed
Houston and Boston. Don't get me wrong I bet the baseball will be good, but BLECH.
2 run hit for Eddie Rosario (Atlanta)!!! Eddie!!! Eddie!!! Eddie!!!
Say goodnight, Milwaukee.
That's a shame....

Guess they didn’t pee their pants hard enough this year.
The Twins certainly had that part under control
If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis.
This pitch was silly.

He barely effin' threw that, and it hit 103? That's insane.

He looks like he barely exerts any effort at all. It's absolutely insane. He has one of the shortest extensions in all of baseball and throws 103mph.
Snap of the wrist, that's about it. Absolutely crazy. This COULD be counter-intuitive, but imagine if he threw his body into it? Could work, or could backfire, both options in an immense factor of speed (and accuracy). Would be fun to find out, though.

I don't know how anyone hits MLB pitching.

Another phenomenal game between LA and SF.
It's a damn shame this is an NLDS game instead of NLCS.

I thought a while ago that we're probably going to end up with the best series in the entire postseason being a best of five. Such a shame.
