Today in 1991, Jack Morris tells everybody to keep their candy asses in the bullpen and fires a 10-inning Game 7 shutout to lift the Twins to a World Series victory. His pitch count was “I don’t give a :censored: .”

I didn’t know until today that Morris tried to get Tom Kelly to let him pitch in game 6 cause he was worried he wouldn’t get a game 7 opportunity. Obviously TK said no and the rest is history.

What was it going to do... screw up his next start... in 5 months?

The Athletic did a great oral history on the game a year or two ago. Reading Brian Harper’s recollection of TK and Morris’s interactions late in that game were quite amusing

Really good game tonight in the WS. Wasn't an HR fest, it came down to pitching...

Sure, I want a G7, drama. But I think ATL has got this before then.

Happy for Eddie. Of all the pro sports teams in town, the Twins ownership care the least about winning. A pathetic approach.

Care? I might agree. They are not the most inept, though. That belongs to the Wolves.

They are scared of Eddie now they've walked him twice tonight. This is the second time he has been walked twice in a game this post season. He had two such games in the whole regular season. Eddie doesn't look to walk he wants to hit.

And later Eddie does his bonehead throw to home with no chance, allowing the batter to get to 2nd.

Eddie is up seventh in the bottom of the 9th so with Atlanta losing 9-5 all that needs to happen with the first 6 batters is make two make outs, one scores, and three fill the bases so Eddie can win the World Series with a two out walk off Grand Slam. Eddie!!! Eddie!!! Eddie!!! Come on now Atlanta batters do your part to set up Eddie.

Atlanta fans have to still be feeling good, since Atlanta sports teams famously never lose solid leads

In the last game Houston walked Eddie and the next batter hit a grand slam. Tonight they walked Eddie and the next batter hit a three run homer. You can't get Eddie out and walking him hasn't worked that well. :D Damned if you damned if you don't. Hopefully the Atlanta pitching staff holds the lead this time to wrap up the series.

Eddie has had the best post season overall for Atlanta but for the World Series itself Soler has three home runs so I would vote for him for World Series MVP.

MVPs usually favor the flash, and Solar has that for this series.

ATL ready to hop off

For the record I include the MLB season with no playoffs as a "season come and gone" without a title, so my number is one different.

For the record they are missing two North Stars seasons here

Since we have all four major sports we can soon take over the lead from San Diego and Buffalo. We're #1 We're #1. If you are going to be bad you might as well be the best at it. Wink

Soon to be undisputed Loserville, USA and chasing Cleveland's 145 seasons for all time biggest losers.

Yea. And he himself will say he has no idea why (supposedly). But I read all the local jewelry shops sold out of pearls - cause dudes have been buying them all up.

Good for Eddie, and congrats to the Braves. 3-8 in WS deciding games up until this point. Good for Fried, he had a lot of questions about tonight's start, and after that ankle thing in the first, he shut 'er down. Well done, sir.

It was a really good series overall, despite some lopsided scores.

Thankfully Soler didn't just do the minimum when it comes to flair otherwise he might have quit like Jennifer Aniston.

An excerpt from the above article:

Since 2017, Berríos has been one of the American League’s best and most durable pitchers. He ranks fourth in fWAR over the last five seasons as he trails only Gerrit Cole, Chris Sale, and Justin Verlander. He’s started 12 more games than any other AL pitcher during that time and pitched nearly 100 more innings. That kind of reliability is valuable to teams as starting pitcher usage continues to evolve.

Yep and that is why the Twins have won one playoff series in the last 30 years and currently have an 18 game playoff losing streak. #PohladSalaryCap

With the Twins in his two post season starts (one in 2019 and one in 2020) he pitched a combined 9 innings giving up 2 earned runs, 6 hits with 10 strike outs.
