Dave St Peter is stepping down and other front office moves today.

I’m still skeptical they’re all that serious about selling the team, the moves they’ve made personnel wise & hinting they want to sell has provided a nice smoke screen though to obscure their disastrous finish to the season
None of the moves matter until the purse strings are loosened. Until then its just shuffling the same deck of cards.I’m still skeptical they’re all that serious about selling the team, the moves they’ve made personnel wise & hinting they want to sell has provided a nice smoke screen though to obscure their disastrous finish to the season
Round and around and around we go.
Every year in Jan/Feb I ask if the Twins have signed any big pitchers in the off season. It's always in jest because they never have. I think the Pohlads just like to be able to say they own a franchise and walk around thinking they're important. But they will never be true sports team owners outside of the plaques they have their staff make and hang on the wall. A real owner makes moves to put their team in contention. The Pohlads make moves to maximize profit and this team will never be anything more than a giant laundromat to them. Every now and then they come in and pull coins out of the machines, but there is no pride or connection or desire to make the team more than any other business.
F them.
Meanwhile the other three teams have legit superstars in JJ, Anthony Edwards, and Kaprisov. They trade up. They pay. They win. Most importantly, they don't settle.
@bertogliat Well stated! Agree 100%. Craig, Ziggy & the Wolves cabal have plenty of faults, but at least get it as Pro Sports owners. By contrast, the Pohlads operate as you describe (above).
There should be an asterisk next to the Wolves….

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

To be able to afford a minor league team let alone two major league teams...
Owning major franchises in different cities, that always makes me nervous if I root for one of them.
Literally ANYONE else owning the Twins would be an improvement.

Why?
Arizona already has 1 MLB team, they aren't moving a second one there.
The Ishbia family net worth is roughly 3x what the Pohlad family is, and they've already shown to be more than willing to spend money to win there.
That doesn't mean they will keep the team here...just saying. (I doubt the team would leave)
Color me skeptical about the whole thing though.
Twins Fans: SELL THE TEAM!!! SELL THE TEAM!!! SELL THE TEAM!!! 😡 😡 😡
Twins Fans (when there is talk the team might be sold): Oh no the team is going to leave!!! 😡 😡 😡
It is ok to think something might be positive. 😉 😊
IMO, the new owners, if they are smart, go into it thinking: if we spend some money and get a little further along in the playoffs than recent incarnations of past teams, we have fans for LIFE (which = $$$).
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
In addition to being very willing to spend money, the Ishbia family also took a vastly different approach regarding TV coverage when it comes to the Suns in AZ.
They dropped Bally's Sports coverage in 2023 and moved their coverage to a local over-the-air broadcasting station. They also offered free HDMI antennas for anybody who requested one to be able to watch the games on said over-the-air broadcasting station. IIRC they also set up a streaming option. They basically tripled the available viewership by doing this.
They lost out on tens of millions of dollars in TV revenue a year by doing this but they said (paraphrasing) "It is a better business move to do what is best for our fans."
TwinsDaily did a nice little writeup about them today if you want to get more in detail about it:
Obviously this could all be moot if this turns out to be a non-story, but if they are the ones buying the team from the Pohlad family and treat the Twins similarly to the way they treat the Suns I think we'd be pretty OK with it as fans.
I came here to say, if the Pohlads are going to make me pay to watch the Twins, especially if they’re going to cut salary AND make me pay to watch them, they can leave. I refuse to pay to watch shitty baseball.Twins Fans: SELL THE TEAM!!! SELL THE TEAM!!! SELL THE TEAM!!! 😡 😡 😡

So count me in as one who will take their chances with new owners.
As far as the Suns owners possibly taking this team and doing similar thing with the Twins as they did for the Suns, I hope they can and still compete in MLB with no salary cap. MSP is a smaller market and baseball is a different animal.
