The Twins beat Texas again and are now 5 and 1 against them.
JFC Pagan....he must have some leverage of epic proportions to still be on this team.
The only RP on the team that has been consistently better than Pagan this season is Duran. And since I know you love WHIP as a stat, Pagan's WHIP is second only to Thielbar.
I don't have the stats, I'll be blunt about that, but it seems Pagan chokes on every clutch situation that is presented to him.

Texas 3 Twins 0 top of 3rd
Aloha!
Maeda battles through 5, only giving up the 3 run homer in the 1st. Lewis hits a 3 run shot of his own, and Sands comes in and gives the Rangers the lead back. 4-3 Rangers top of 7th.
Correa ties it in the 7th with a single.
Rocco then leaves Sands in the bottom of 7th and Garver goes yard... Shakes my head...

BUT JOE MAUER "MR DOUBLE PLAY" or something. 😉
(Yes, I know he had the rep, but look at the stats, people!)

TBF to Correa he's never had more than 18 in a season before. Mauer had 5 or 6 seasons at 18+
Ugh
Double plays are bad obviously. But interesting to see this list, it is comprised of very recognizable names, mostly + hitters. If you hit the ball hard, are right handed, and slow, double plays are just going to happen. In the moment Double plays suck, but as a player you just got to keep swinging and putting the ball in play with solid contact right?
A lot of guys who hit in the 3-5 position and had good hitters in front of them to get on base.Ugh

Yep, Would be nice to see Correa moved lower in the line up with less guys on 1st base to reduce the double play opportunities.
Did some research. Of the top ten “grounded into double plays” lifetime. Seven are in the Hall of Fame. One and two are Pujols and Miggy so you have to go to number ten (Julio Franco) to get to a non Hall of Famer.
I would love to see when he hits into the DP. I also wonder how many he has hit into a DP when there was more than a runner on 1st. For me, its less brutal when he does it when there is a guy only on first. When he does it to end the inning with the bases loaded or more than a guy on 1st, that hurts. I like Correa, but he seems like the ultimate rally killer.

I wasn’t saying they should move him down. I was saying those people high on this list are there because they have more opportunity to hit into double plays than any other players.Yep, Would be nice to see Correa moved lower in the line up with less guys on 1st base to reduce the double play opportunities.
Swap Correa with any other player and they will also hit into double plays because they’ll have more guys on base when they are up to bat.

Per Baseball Reference, 17 of them were with only a runner on 1st base, 3 with bases loaded, 8 with 1st and 2nd, and 1 with runners on first and third.
At least Royce Lewis is in the right spot with dudes on base. Another four bagger with them full!
And Correa with a homer much to the delight of the Cleveland fans. Just kidding, lots of boos. ?
7-0 in the 3rd. Can the bullpen screw it up…??
He now has 3 grand slams in the Twins last 8 games. The Twins are rolling with Royce. ?
The next time he comes up with the bases loaded against Cleveland they should intentionally walk him 1 run is less than 4 runs. ?
Knocking Giolito out early bodes extremely well for the Twins. Cleveland's bullpen was already pretty taxed before today's game and now are looking at 6 innings of bullpen innings (or PPP if the game stays out of hand).
If the Twins can get 7 innings from Pablo and give basically the whole bullpen two days off that would be huge. They called up Varland and optioned Sands to AAA after last night's game so the only bullpen arms that pitched yesterday are Winder (5 pitches) and Funderburk (14 pitches). Gotta think best case scenario for the Twins is Lopez goes 7, Varland/Winder go the rest.
As I say that, Cleveland brings in backup catcher David Fry in the 6th inning after a bases loaded single from Royce makes it 11-1.

I went outside to do a few things and when I get back our tally is double. ?
I don't think I've ever seen a team bring in a position player to pitch in the 6th inning. Are they going to have position players pitch the last 4 innings? If so the Twins should show no mercy. If they want to save their bullpen for the rest of the series and pitch position players for quite a few innings then put up as many runs as you can.
Especially with the new rules (there has to be a certain differential now).
And I'm still wondering if that lead is safe if Pagan or Theilbar comes in....

The Twins didn't hit that inning deciding to stay on 18. With the dealer showing a 3 they didn't want to risk hitting and busting. ?
Bottom of 9, bases loaded, no outs….. what could go wrong?
Twins hang on for a 20-6 victory.
Both teams seem unhappy with their kickers inconsistancy on extra points.

That bottom of the ninth went as predicted. Knew we’d give up a few as the bottom of the order doesn’t swing and the top of the order pounds the ball right at someone.
I sure hope that's not his fast ball. ?
He's no La Tortuga. 🙁

I can throw faster than 39…maybe they’ll let me suit up? ?

Keep your stick on the ice...
Saw Royce Lewis has more grand slams in the last 8 games than Pete Rose and Derek Jeter have combined in their entire careers.
I saw somewhere that Lewis now shares a stat with a former Yankee. Lewis is only the second player in MLB history to hit at least 5 home runs and 3 grand slams over an 8-game span.
The other player is a guy named Lou Gehrig, who did it in 1931.
I can throw faster than 39…maybe they’ll let me suit up? ?
This is a great idea if the game gets out of hand and the teams want to save their pitchers they let fans pitch. ?

Crushed a record that made it through the steroid era. This may not be broken....ever.
That should never be shared again.I had never seen this before. I have so many thoughts
That video is from the '91 season, playoff teams get to do weird stuff.
The Guardian's gave up in the 6th, they put their catcher in to pitch and let him throw over 60 pitches. I guess we were up 13-1 or 13-2 at that point.
We similarly didn't pitch a pitcher to end the game, so expected us to give up a few runs, felt confident we could keep it to less than 17.
What an odd game.
@jwg definitely the right move by Rocco...not sense in using up an arm in a game like that. I was a little surprised to see Cleveland insert Moundsview native Sam Hentges when the game was out of control.
Royce deserves the attention, but I’m really liking Solano at the plate too. On the bases? Not as much. ?
Beauty of a catch from Castro to end the eighth.
