Solano tries to outdo Gallo for base running blunders. Meanwhile Correa is the biggest double play grounder machine I've ever seen. The Rangers are trying to hand the game to the Twins and the Twins keep dropping it.
Some little league base running by the Twins in extra innings today.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Twins get a walkoff walk to win in 13.
Twins: we don't want this game. Take it.
Texas: Oh YEAH! SCREW YOU! YOU WIN. HOW YOU LIKE US NOW?!
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
W
The Twins come back from 5-0 down to win the game and the series taking 3 of 4 from Texas knocking them out of first place.
Royce Lewis hits a grand slam to start the comeback and Dallas Keuchel throws 5 innings of shut out relief. Last Sunday he threw 6 1/3 perfect innings and then was taken out of the game after giving up one hit. He then got relegated to the bullpen with Joe Ryan coming off the IL and getting the start yesterday. Dallas has now thrown 11 1/3 shut out innings over the last week.
Texas couldn't deal with Dallas.
And IIRC, Dallas opted out of his contract for next year or something, just before he was called up and pitched well. We won't see him in a Twins uni next year.

The Twins signed him to a minor league offer after nobody signed him until mid-June. He had been out of the league and worked with the AnAlYtIcS guys at Driveline to rework his delivery, arm slot, grips, etc to try to get back to the major leagues. The Twins brass saw his bullpen sessions at Driveline and decided to give him a look. Keuchel's minor league contract included the option in his minor league contract to opt out of the contract and pursue other avenues if the Twins did not call him up by August 1st. He exercised that option on August 1st. The Twins then selected his contract and added him to the 40-man roster when Joe Ryan went on IL a couple days later.
We may not see him in a Twins uniform next year but it has basically nothing to do with him being relegated to a bullpen/6th starter role and more to do with the fact that he's a 36 year old SP on a one year deal. Literally every MLB organization had the option to sign him to the same deal the Twins did and the Twins were one of only a couple to offer him a contract. He signed it knowing the Twins had 5 SPs and were among the best starting rotations, statistically speaking, in the MLB at the time.
@beauner I have to ask - are “AnAlYtIcS” a good or bad thing in your eyes regarding baseball?
Big, if incredibly ugly win for the Twins today. Not so much for the standings, but also for the mental boost of taking 3 of 4 from Texas. Now Cleveland comes in for three games. They need to put their foot on Cleveland's throat and sweep this series.

Overall they are good. They are great for player development (like the above-referenced Keuchel situation, for example). I think the vast majority of anti-analytic fans have a fundamental misunderstanding of how they are used in professional baseball.
A lot of the "buzzwords" that the anti-analytic fans hate, like launch angle, are theories and teachings that have been taught since I was playing tee ball. We just have quantifiable data and technological ways to measure these things now that we didn't have 10+ years ago and can effectively discuss them now.
Managers have been making in-game decisions based on splits like lefty-lefty matchups forever. Managers have known that sac bunts have, for the most part, been detrimental to scoring runs for at least 20 years.
I have to go back through my scorebook, but I believe this is the 5th walkoff I have been to this year (from my 20 game season ticket) Might be more than 5.
Take 2 of 3 against Cleveland and you can damn near book your playoff ticket.

HOWEVER, the anti-analytic fans have a point, IMO, that they are over-used and some are "does this really make a difference" and ask if the GRIT factor 😉 is overlooked (the stuff that CANNOT be quantified). The old "s/he just has it" kind of thing. I love some analytics, hate others for that reason.

They're not overused in-game. They may be over-discussed by broadcasts. Managers aren't making pinch hitting decisions based on somebody's BABIP or pitching changes based on fWAR.
What's this about a bippity-boop and GWAR? 😉
It's a given everything is over-discussed in pre- and post-game breakdowns...

I had just read this the week before because I was wondering just how strong Correa's arm actually is compared to his peers. Turns out pretty, pretty... pretty good.
I was at the game, noticed that Correa went to take the cut off throw and thought this is going to be close.
Here is the relay. Just a ridiculous throw by Correa

I am going to say it Royce Lewis is the best player on the Twins team.
Batting Ave, One Base %, Slugging, OPS
2022 - .300, .317, .550, .867
2023 - .312, .358, .500, .858
His stats for 2023 will go up after hitting a grand slam in his second at bat tonight.
How many rookies have hit Grand Slams in back to back games? Since he only had 40 at bats last season he is still a rookie.

So was this one.
On Wallner's HR, the pitcher just kind of stood there stunned, he didn't flinch, much less look back, he knew it was gone.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Kody Funderburk makes his major league debut, retires all 6 batters he faces (3 by strike out), and gets the win.
Kody Funderburk is my favorite player based upon name alone.
I'm old enough to remember this Funderburk.

Nice comeback by the team, led by the bullpen. Gotta be concerned by the Maeda performance.
Huh? His last 5 games--runs given up. 1,1,3,3,6. The 6 was bad. The final runs given up by the Twins in those games was: ----------------------------------------1,3,8,8,6. One bad game.Nice comeback by the team, led by the bullpen. Gotta be concerned by the Maeda performance.

Some very very interesting names here. A lot of these guys were players the Angels traded for at/around the deadline.
Waiver order is determined by team record (worst to best). Seems like a safe bet that none of the teams out of the playoff hunt will be interested in any of these guys. Meaning there are roughly 6 teams (if you include Boston, currently 5.5 games out of Wild Card and behind 2 other teams for the last 2 spots). Grichuk was a name bandied about a few times for the Twins as a potential right handed corner outfield bat. Obviously Twins fans are very familiar with Giolito from his time with Chicago. Moore has been a quality LHP out of the pen for them this season and Lopez has been very solid for them as well after going to LA in the trade with Giolito.
Cleveland ties the game in top 9 off Duran after he drops an easy 1-6-3 double play ball and has to recover to only get the runner at 1B, then he spikes a 1-2 curveball behind Naylor, who swung the bat but the ball was so far behind him (and went to the backstop) that the umpires didn't even notice he swung. This allowed the tying run to score.
Well that move didn't work out well for Rocco

Cupcake pitch on 3-0? odd move.
From the time bat met ball there was no suspense.

The Twins have a chance to end any suspense in the Central and instead drop 2 out of 3 to Cleveland at home. The lead is down to 5 games and they go on the road to Texas and then Cleveland. Things could get interesting real fast.
They seem to struggle with success. Anytime there’s a decent winning stretch, it is immediately followed with a losing stretch. Just don’t have that killer instinct. That or they’re just a mediocre team that for every game they win, they lose one as well.

Sounds like Cleveland is also getting reliever Reynaldo Lopez off of waivers.
It is unusual that a team (in this case the Angels) releases so many guys that teams want but since it happened my prediction is the waiver claim process gets changed soon.
It seems weird that a team can claim multiple players and keep their waiver claim position (based on record). Cleveland having a worse record apparently let them claim as many as they wanted even though it's being reported that the Twins put in claims too.
