Twins win3-0 today
Aloha!
Another solid start from the staff. Ryan goes 6 innings and gives up 2 hits. Twins lose three of four to Detroit and then go into Philadelphia and two out of three. Go figure.

No matter who the starter was it was a great performance. A couple of the relievers made it interesting.

So Mr. Gallo read my post on GPL & didn’t like my comments! He should spend more time in the batting cage & less time worrying about what the fans are saying about him on GPL! He’s been released by at least 4 teams because he couldn’t hit! He will be released by the Twins at the end of this year & his MLB career will be over!
He's on a 1 year deal.
Thank God!

The Tigers are 7-4 vs the Twins this season
Aloha!
That Wallner slam just landed in Lake Phalen.
For those who didn't see it.
Safe to say that was crushed. ?

Love the bat-drop. No theatrics. It was pure, I'mma just gonna leave my bat here, that ball is GONE.

Hopefully this is a sign that the healthy good Joe Ryan is back.
Correa murders another rally.
Keuchel went 6.1 innings of perfect ball today before Bryan Reynolds doubled off the right center field wall.
The Twins lead has now grown to 6 games (largest of the season).
Detroit took 3 out of 4 in Cleveland and has now won the first three series. They've clinched the season series against Cleveland (currently 7-3) with 3 games left which will be in Detroit. They've pulled within 1.5 games of Cleveland for 2nd place.
Since the All-Star break
Twins 20-14
Detroit 18-17
Cleveland 14-21
The Twins have 6 games left against Cleveland and none against Detroit.
This inning is infuriating.
Twins up by 3 in the sixth...and...its gone.

Another stellar outing by the Twins bullpen today..... ?

Twins better hope the Dodgers help them out the next two days. Ugly two games in Milwaukee.
Another stellar outing by the Twins bullpen today..... ?
I don't care what the numbers say. I have little confidence in Jax, Pagan, or Thielbar. Any one of those guys will give up key runs in October. I think the games in Milwaukee are a prelude to the Twins in the postseason - if they make it.
They have an adequate starting rotation, but they don't have an elite arm - a horse - who can take over a game in the playoffs. It's reminiscent of the Brad Radke years...good regular-season inning eaters but short on postseason heroics. Then you have guys who can't stay healthy and others who are getting paid to win games with their bat but they are not.
I enjoy watching the young players on this team, like Wallner, Lewis, Julien, and Kirilloff, but I don't see a 1987 surprise in the making.

Credit where it’s due, great comeback tonight! And the Dodgers beat Cleveland twice.
The bullpen throws 4 shut out innings (3 by Winder, 1 by Jax).
The lineup gives Twins fans a lot of souvenirs hitting 5 home runs (2 by Taylor, Farmer, Lewis, Jeffers) along with a Correa 8th inning double that ties the game setting up this blast to win the game.
Rocco pinch hit Jeffers for Julien since the Rangers had a left handed pitcher in the game. People love to criticize Rocco when a move doesn't work this move sure worked.

These are the kind of things we as fans don't see/hear often. The Twins anticipated Texas going to Will Smith late in the game to pitch to Kepler and Julien and Jeffers knew the AnAlYtIcS of Smith that he loves to start RHH with a slider. So he went inside and set the pitching machine to mimic Smith's slider and went to swinging away.
He didn't miss it, that was spanked - wow! Can't wait to see where it will land. ?

That reminds me of Kirk Gibson who said that he was so hobbled he could only get around on one of Eckersly's pitches: his famed slider. So he sat on it and waited.
Jeffers didn't have to wait.
Twins offense overcomes some god-awful strikezone (largely one sided, as evidenced below) and blow out the Rangers 12-2. Rocco and Gallo were both ejected early arguing a couple really bad calls. Twins held a 4-1 lead going into the 7th when they hung 6 more on the board, including a mammoth HR from Julien to break it open.

The Twins bats are starting to come around.
Being honest. I love 'em, but first round elimination is coming.

Didn't know anything about Julien before this year. What a great eye he has for the strike zone.
Do you think that radar gun was right? The Rangers' catcher looked like he was throwing a soft toss from the mound during garbage time and was getting readings as high as 65 mph. I have friends who can't break 50 after 3 steps and a crow hop. I know the guy is a professional ballplayer but it seemed fishy to me.
La Tortuga aka Willians Austidillo (former Twin) hit 70-something somehow once or twice. It happens.

dumb question, what are the red and green dots supposed to indicate? I was trying to figure out the first graphic with the 12 missed calls and thought red meant called a strike outside the zone when it should be a ball, but that doesn’t make sense as for instance number 11 is red and outside the zone but resulted in a walk, so clearly that theory is incorrect. ?
Baseball used to be so much easier.?
I think the result is of the at-bat overall, not that the singular pitch itself resulted in it.

There is no dump questions. Learning happens by asking questions. You are correct the red dots (in the top left picture with the numbers) should have been called balls but were called strikes. Like karlsson said number 11 was called incorrectly (called a strike instead of a ball) the at bat ending up being a walk makes it less influential but it was still called incorrectly.
Yes baseball used to have less stats/information but math nerds (like me) love all the new information/stats because it helps provide a deeper understanding.
In this case the ball/strike information is a great way to help umpires get better at their job. If an umpire is consistently calling too many strikes that should be balls hopefully the umpire getting this information will cause him to adjust and get better.
That was relay perfection in the top of the 2nd by Kepler and Correa.
Interesting to see Polanco initially rotate out for the cutoff but then seemingly waved Correa out to take the throw because he has a better arm to make the throw to the plate. And Correa through an absolute rocket to the plate in perfect tag position to nail Duran at the plate by a step.
Hopefully somebody on the Twitterverse will post the replay of it. That was a thing of beauty.

I'm not really sure. It's always hard to tell when they have a PPP (position player pitching) that just goes out there lollipopping the ball in like Astudillo used to do but I'd guess most MLB players can throw 60-70mph with minimal effort. Especially a catcher who theoretically would have a pretty strong arm.
Here is the relay. Just a ridiculous throw by Correa

Watching the ninth.
Watching the ninth.
Some childhood friends were in town, hung out in Hopkins. Left LTD Brewing when it was the start of the 9th. It's about a 7 minute drive. I get home, and it's 5-2 bases loaded. WTF. And only ONE (ONE!) ball put in play? YOU KIDDING ME?

Yeah Jax wasn't real sharp.
Twins were down 5-0 then Lewis hits a Grand slam now 5-4
Aloha!
I was with my sister last night her daughter was there she told me she brought her 7 year old kid to a game he wanted a Twins baseball hat, the lowest price hat for little kids was $45.00 OUTRAGEOUS!!
Aloha!
Good God, Gallo.

@the-rube I'm sure it's happened before, but I've never seen a base runner get picked off of 2nd in extra innings like that before. That just can't happen with the game on the line.
Gallo is a clown! Send him to the minors & get someone on the roster who’s not a bonehead & doesn’t strike ou 80% of the time!!
