Saturday at The Bank...that play by NLS was just wow. I was standing in a stairwell watching the end of the game and saw the play happen live. I was talking with a couple NLS fans as they were going to walk out but stopped to watch that last play...they were very happy they did. Heads up play by both of those receivers.
Now to the reason why I was there...Mankato West vs. Elk River. Not the outcome we were hoping for but it was a helluva game. Elk River knows they played a tough Mankato West football team for sure. I think if a couple plays happened differently the outcome would have been different. The game went the way it did and I am fine with how it ended...congrats to Elk River.
I will say that I am sad that my son's football career and his classmates is over. They had a hell of a run going back to sixth grade and the Mankato West varsity football teams win streak ended at 31 games. Consecutive Prep Bowl appearances is nothing to sneeze at, and West is loaded to make another run next year.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
Nothing to hang your head about in losing in a Prep Bowl Championship. I was fortunate to be a part of more State Championships than runner-ups. Though those runner-ups were nothing to hang our heads about. At the time the kids might think it's a big deal, but 10, 20, 30 years later you look back and say "WOW" that was a run!!!
Keep your stick on the ice...

Losing in the state final is an emotional gut punch, for sure. My son played on the Lakeville team that lost by a touchdown to EP. Both teams were 13-0 going into that game, and only one team would come out undefeated.
When he looks back on that year, he doesn't think too much about what could have been. He remembers how much fun he had with his team from that first practice in August until the last game played that year. It didn't end the way they wanted it to, but there's a life lesson in that, too.
