Several somethings. There is no legit reason for this to happen. Someone or multiple someones failed.

And?
You obviously aren't defending it. They could have won the game and coasted. There is no section playoff rule that involved margin of victory.
Why is Ubah Medical Academy in AA.
I am not defending it. Unfortunately we see mismatches in section playoffs. These teams didn't schedule each other they were told to play each other.
I feel bad for the team who lost obviously if you look at there schedule the question to ask is why are they in 5 AA section? Where they can get matched up like this.
Not sure how you put up 143 without running it up, 143-4 for F sake.
Ya. "Oh sorry we just had to embarrass them to the worst score in history is because of sections and not the coaching" rings hollow
O.K., I had to look it up. The losing team is Ubah Medical Academy, a charter school in Hopkins.
It's obviously a statement to do that to a team.

Somalian school looks like. Page I saw said 300 enrollment.
Teams have won section hockey games 22-0. I am not gong to argue which is worst they are both bad.
That makes this much worse for the Minneapolis north coach
What would a basketball game between Hmong Academy and Academy for the Deaf look like if UBAH pounded both

Is there an argument about it? Seems like everyone agrees this stuff should not happen.
The business still isn't finished!
North just scored another tap-in.

“At halftime, I went to the coach and said, ‘Are we done?’ He said, ‘Let me go talk to the kids.’ He came back and said, ‘We want to play.’ Their kids were having fun, shooting from halfcourt and doing dribbling exhibitions.”
Lmaoooo
Some quotes from the article.
McKenzie said Friday he called Ubah Medical Academy before the game and asked if the school wanted to forego the game.
“I asked the coach if they really wanted to play, because we knew it would be very lopsided,” McKenzie said. “The coach told me, ‘I take this as an insult. Of course we want to play.’”
“At halftime, I went to the coach and said, ‘Are we done?’ He said, ‘Let me go talk to the kids.’ He came back and said, ‘We want to play.’
McKenzie didn’t use any of his regulars after halftime. “I don’t know what else I could do,” he said. “Are we going to tell kids don’t play hard this game but play hard next game? And how do I tell kids who don’t get much chance to play to take the day off? That’s not fair to them.”
The root cause of the mismatch, McKenzie said, was that the Minnesota State High School League’s requirements to qualify for section play were not strict enough.
“How does a team get to play that only play five games?” he asked. “We were in a no-win situation. This is a game that never should have been played.”
To score THAT many points, you're still playing a fast game. Slow the game down. Don't slow it down to embarrassing levels, but hey, if you get a steal? Don't go for the breakaway. Maximize passing and shoot at the last second of the shot clock. Little things.
The North coach WAS insulting to even ask if they wanted to play the game. They're kids. Of course they want to play.
From what I've heard from the Hopkins locals, newer school, 99% Somali, yes, 277 students...dunno how they are designated at the level they are at.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Go Annandale! Their coach was the coach when I was in high school.
Is it just my tv or are the colors on the Williams arena court very McDonald’s colors?
Serous question - is traveling still more than one step after you stop dribbling the ball? They are regularly taking three or four after picking up the ball as they go for the net. I don’t watch basketball so I don’t really know if they amended rules since I played…er rode the pine for the Cards.
First bball title ever for Annandale!! ??

Three is standard I think, 4 prob is in the NBA :biggrin2:
I heard traveling was a none issue for Cowgirl since she didn't spend much time on the ground walking. Instead she was a high flying dunker. This is how she got the nickname Cowgirl. She was always so high above everybody else that people started saying she must be riding a horse. This is also likely why she started taking up hockey basketball became too easy.

My friend’s mom made pillows for us to sit on we rode so much pine. I am about as tall as that little forward for the guys team. ?
I only wish I could have played hockey. Girls hockey really wasn’t a thing at that time. I played bball just to be with my friends. Softball was my jam.
First bball title ever for Annandale!! ??
Cool… I always remember my Jr. year ‘93 and winning basketball State.

That is funny. Here is a pillow since you ride so much pine. I am so competitive I don't think I would take receiving a pillow too well.

We thought it was great. We were scrubs and we knew it. It was a dig on our a-hole coach who only played the same five people.
I really like the coaches giving the medals after games, seems to make the presentation that much more meaningful.

MSHSL votes down Boys' Volleyball becoming a varsity high school sport by one vote.

Ignoring the painful typos in this Strib article... Way to go, Title IX.
"Other issues included cost, of which athletic directors are alway mindful, availabiliity of officials and if adding boys' volleyball would force an additionl, or reciprocal, move to accomdate Title IX requirments."

I'm surprised it was voted down by just one vote, even after being voted down by just 2 votes last year. Not so much Title IX part of it, but the financial burden on school districts that already have tight budgets.

While Title IX is a concern (it is for everything), this is entirely to do with scheduling. The MSHSL took the approach of "just let the Board decide which season we will play this in", which is correct administratively, but scary to a school that has to manage the particulars of determining who gets gym priority.
Schools are already strapped for gym space in March and April, so a spring volleyball season is going to be hard. From what I understand, there aren't enough officials to do it in the fall with girls volleyball already in-season.
Cost is a bit of a factor, but not one that schools are using to say no entirely. The school doesn't have to participate, remember!
Nobody is really opposed to boys volleyball on principle; it has everything to do with fitting it into an already full slate. If the MSHSL said they'll approve a 12 game schedule for practices to start on April 15 and games to start on May 1, with sections in first week of June, I think that would work fine. But mission creep starts to take over, and 12 games isn't a meaningful volleyball season, and there are already too many spring sports.... so you can see how that raises enough questions to cause the whole thing to pause.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Our priorities are getting WAY out of whack. We already have parents on youth B and C level teams paying their kids money for every goal they score. I heard one parent last year say they give $50 for each goal..... Do you think that kid is going to pass the puck on an odd man rush?
Now these kids can get paid by companies for padding stats? What pressure are parents going to put on coaches for playing time? How mad are parents going to get at the refs? How many kids will be moved to teams that put them in position to make money?
It's no longer about friends and working to a common goal if your going to allow high school kids to be paid.
How often are high school kids being used to make money already anyway?
I’m with you Bertogliat, this is wrong. American greed at its finest.
Maybe some kids will consider staying in HS instead of heading off to juniors.
Maybe there is an actual list of pros I've no considered but, unless someone can cite them I don't like this move at all.
"Amateur” sports is quickly losing it's priorities.

Bummer... always fun spending my 'Black Friday' watching the Prep Bowl. Interesting this wasn't thought of sooner the Vikings didn't communicate with the MSHSL sooner.

Highlights from the nailbiter last night for Mankato West at the State Quarter Final game versus Rochester Mayo. West won with a TD scored with :15 secs left in the game.

We're heading down to US Bank stadium on Friday afternoon to see Zimmerman play in the state semi-finals. This is my first trip to the stadium so I'm looking for parking recommendations. I'm not sure how it being a weekday afternoon will affect parking availability.
Any help is much appreciated.
I'm not sure how it will be on a Friday afternoon but last year I parked on the north side of the stadium in a couple outdoor lots. Mankato was the last game of the day both days so I imagine those lots were a little more open than they will be on Friday. You can go onto the US Bank Stadium website and prepay for parking also.

One option is to park in the ramp near Comstock Hall across the river and take the light rail over Washington Avenue. Easy to get to and might be more open than nearer the stadium on a weekday?

Thanks for the tip. I went to the US Bank website and bought a parking pass for 18 bucks right across the street from the stadium.
Another night, another nail biter of a football game. Mankato West pulled off another last minute win in the state semifinal vs Rogers. A goal line stand, one yard short for Rogers. 14-10 win for the Scarlets and a consecutive Prep Bowl appearance for their efforts. Tonight was consecutive win #31 for the Mankato West varsity football team. Going for #32 in two weeks.

In 24 hours Mankato West will make it's consecutive Prep Bowl appearance in Class 5A vs. Elk River. Every podcast and article I've read has Elk River winning this game by anywhere from 7-10 points. I don't blame anyone for thinking that.
How do you stop an offense that averages rushing for about 450 yards a game? Maybe a defense that has averaged giving up 150 yards a game throughout the playoffs can do that. That is the challenge of this game...Elk River's triple option led by their QB as their leading rusher and Mankato West's defense that stopped one of the best RB1's in the state on the one yard line to be in this game.
Elk River has shown in these playoffs that it doesn't mind an old fashion offensive shootout, see the section 7 championship vs. Andover (51-49). Mankato doesn't play that way, they like to let opponents waste time moving the ball and then don't let them into the end zone.
The key to the game, like most every football game, is turnovers. Mankato takes care of the ball and are opportunistic when their opponent doesn't. Mankato has only had 5 fumbles lost and ZERO INT's while Elk River is 12 fumbles lost and 4 INT's.
I know that I have a horse in this game so I am bias but I've seen this play out before. I saw future NFLer Aaron Kampman of Aplington-Parkersburg and high school HOF coach Ed Thomas with their vaunted triple option lose to my hometown of Iowa Falls in 1996 in the state championship. The key to the game, two fumbles and and INT in the second half led to 20 unanswered points for a 20-19 win for Iowa Falls.
I can't wait to watch my son and his classmates and teammates play tomorrow night. I hope to see another state championship for them, this year they have earned every win they got.
