Did either of you two watch the game? And not just 5 minutes.

If you think some of these athletes are considered boys then you might want to look again.

And honestly I didn’t see tonight’s game, but I watch plenty of boys high school basketball to know what kind of athletes are out there on the elite teams in Minnesota. Does a small school in Northern Minnesota beat the Lynx? No. But does a top program in the Twin Cities with D-1 prospects littered across the teams beat the Lynx? Yes. Too quick and too physical.

The only player for Apple Valley you could consider a man is Jones. The two Apple Valley big guys played like boys. Or you could say sissys.

Agree to disagree... I feel you are underestimating the Lynx vs. Apple Valley. And I could be wrong as well.

How many of the Lynx can dunk? It's a fairly good gauge of athletic ability and size.

A lot of guys could dunk in high school and I couldn't. I was still a better ball player.

This question and debate is a moot point. We'll really never know. You and others have their view and I have mine.

I remember the Warroad Boys hockey team beating the 2006 bronze medal winning Women's Olympic hockey team. A good comparison, or apples to oranges? I don't know.

Would be interesting to have that game played again. I think the women’s game has developed lots. And the spectrum of talent is a lot closer now in 2017 than 2006.

And from what I have read Minnesota high school wrestling is in the top 10 if not the top 5 for high school wrestling.

FYP Mr. Green

Honestly it's not that outrageous of a statement but I wouldn't toot the horn saying wrestling in the state of Minnesota some of the best in the nation. Pennsylvania has overtaken Iowa as the hot spot for high school wrestling in recent years. There is a slight drop off to get to Minnesota, Illinois, and Ohio. After them it's a huge drop off to California, New Jersey, and Oklahoma and then there is no need to talk about any other state.

CDH and Daniel Oturu won the state championship over Apple Valley and Tre Jones on a last second (0.5 seconds left) alley oop to Oturu.

Horrible defensive set by Apple Valley. Should of had only one guy in the back court challenging the dribbler. Once CDH brought ball across half court don’t let that ball get to the paint. Apple Valley should of had two guys on Oturu. Make another player shot the ball 15 feet out.

Was curious why Oturu didn't make the All-Tournament Team. Listening to the radio yesterday it was brought up. Since Oturu received a technical foul in the game, he was ineligible to be on the team. I guess some people were calling in saying he should of been kicked out of the game. I think that would of been a bit extreme. He did push the Apple Valley player to the ground, stood over him and taunted him. Though the stripes lost control of that play 10 seconds prior when Oturu was mauled twice on the rebound and no whistle.

The T that he had.

I wrote after seeing the kid over Xmas at the Granite City Classic he was a keep.

he made Brevyn Spann Ford, a Gopher TE recruit, look like w mere lad playing against a man in the SC Tech / C-DH game. Teams playing Gophers next year will be going through lots of ice.

In the State bouncy ball tourney, three of the four champs were Hopkins, a notorious recruiter, and two private schools. Is there as much animosity for them as there is for private schools winning hockey titles? I don't pay as much attention to B-ball.

IMHO, MSHSL basketball, especially in the Twin Cities, has been diminished by the AAU season, which runs all summer and isn't limited by high school attendance or state boundaries as to where to play. As a result, you are left with all-star teams playing all summer that sometimes choose to go to school together, and players are more concerned about looking good to scouts there more than what they do in the MSHSL season.

The community model in HS basketball is rarely alive anymore, at least in the metro core and perhaps only in Class A basketball.

In fairness, however, the Lakeville North squad is bucking that trend, with their team being significantly two- to three- sport athletes. That is really impressive and should be cheered.

I don't know how much Novak really recruits... the Lindbergh Center certainly didn't hurt their cause. Kids like the idea of playing in a top notch facility... then add in open enrollment... and I don't think he really had to do much recruiting.

When I was there, the Lindbergh building location was nothing more than a hill with trees on it... where we would walk out of the locker room and down to the baseball field for practice/games. Basketball wasn't anywhere near the school's best sport back then. It was baseball, soccer, and girl's gymnastics.

Besides, Hopkins has historically been fleeced of its best hockey players by other schools. So it is just payback. Mr. Green

Minnehaha Adademy has plenty of multiple sport athletes as well...including three the Gophers want for football badly.

AAU BB ball is not all it is cracked up to be for overall player development. Nor enough emphasis on defense or even team orientated offense.

Also multi sport kids really have a hard time with the time commitment.

Curious note from Shooter's column today. I presume it's Derrick Brown the current head coach at St. Cloud Cathedral.

Insert good recruiter jokes here. Mr. Green

This will make things interesting for kids who are multi sport athletes and for those teams that rely on multisport athletes.

Maybe other sports will agree not to schedule games on Friday nights? Have tiered practice times for various sports?

The MSHSL board only voted on moving volleyball and football, didn't sound like they even broached the subject of moving spring sports. I understand the concerns which mirror those of having in person schooling this fall, but I am upset that many kids will have to choose between one thing or another next spring.

For my son this effectively ends his tenure in the Mankato Lancers marching band. He was on the fence about next season of Lancers anyway, but with football happening right during the time Lancers ramps up it will be a no brainer decision for him to move on from that.

*I just read a few more things about this...I guess the MSHSL is considering another sports season to start after May 15. Maybe spring sports like baseball will be moved to that season?

**I guess the MSHSL did vote to move traditional spring sports to the fourth season which will be May 15 to July 15. I think I got it right this time.
