Are the Gophers recruiting the Fr, Schmidt from SCC?!?!?!

Keep your stick on the ice...
How many teams really play a full 4 lines of forwards and 3 D pairs?
Both Mankato teams this year barely played their 3rd line from my understanding...hence why they didn't sniff state.

Northfield unis are looking sharp 👍

Can confirm, nephew was on West's 3rd line and didn't see the ice in either OT of the section final that I can recall (albeit I was streaming at home)
Although, I think being a shot away from state qualifies as "sniffing" state. Just me

I will walk back my statement, I forgot how close that game was. That's more about the players and less about the coaching...the West coach is a...oof.

Orono gets away with a pretty obvious too many men on the ice and then scores the opening goal.
Northfield just scored beginning of 2nd
Aloha!
And Orono responds right away. 3-1
Woof. 5-1 Orono. Northfield looks all out of sorts
The Gophers...er, Northfield are having a tough go of it so far.
stopping 10/17 shots is a rough outing.

he looks good doesn’t he? Wondering if he’s a relative of Nate.
Tourney week in Minnesota must see a dip in work production. Watched on the phone and if I was in an automotive production line the steering wheel would probably be in the backseat.😂
Looking forward to the games on the big screens at home tonight! Love it!
Hibbing with an off the crotch goal. 😆
The Luverne goalie made the save but then the puck hit the Hibbing player who took the shot (and then was pushed to the ice) in the crotch while he was sliding on the ice.

Luverne keeper having a night to forget so far. Soft 3rd goal there.

Do you like anything, Mikey? 😉
I won't be awake to see the last game of the day, but here's hoping there's at least 1 close one.
imho the Class A results every year (including attendance) makes the argument to go back to a 1 class tournament.
Since Gorg is my age and I played against him in kid hockey I am enjoying his game call. He gives a nice mix of game insight and nostalgia that is very similar to my recollections.
Except he was on a hell of a HS team and they would easily earned Culver's if they had played mine.

Interestingly it could be getting closer. There was a very good article in Sunday's Strib about Kennedy & Johnson (mostly Kennedy since the Johnson/Highland announcement came out Friday) programs shutting down and they probably won't be the last.
Couple of eye opening stats from the article:
In 2009, the state featured 160 varsity boys teams. That number dropped again this season to 143, meaning Minnesota is losing teams at a pace of about one per season
============================================
Last school year, 5,045 boys participated in high school hockey in Minnesota, a 13% drop from a recent high-water mark (5,792) in 2015-16, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations. In that same time frame, girls hockey participation dropped 12%, from 3,761 players to 3,320.
Consolidating teams has become necessary, and the trend has created strange unions. Traditional boys powers Apple Valley and Burnsville formed a co-op a few years ago. Rivals in several sports, Armstrong and Cooper skate together as the Wings. Seven public high schools in the city feed into the single Minneapolis boys hockey team; St. Paul is now following suit. Richfield dropped hockey in 2015. Now Kennedy.

Wed attendance is always low for Class A. Though they fill the lower bowl and club for semifinals and the Class State Championship.
Keep your stick on the ice...
During the afternoon broadcast they brought it up… Kennedy is joining Jefferson to be a Bloomington co-op. Saint Paul Johnson if I recall is joining Highland Park. For high school, Apple Valley and Burnsville, where Apple Valley colors and nickname. I’m pretty sure Spring Lake Park has joined coon Rapids… Don’t know all of the details.
I’m all for it… Keep kids playing hockey even though their school/City doesn’t have enough kids to carry on a program.

Don't get me wrong, it's good to see teams continue as co-ops but that trend is concerning as participation numbers drop.
I am actually very proud of the Highland comeback story. Highland Central was YE's youth program and I was very involved in the program, on and off the ice. I spent 6-7 years on the board and I believe we did a lot of things to not only grow the program but set up Highland Park to revitalize the hockey program there. Our association at the time president played a significant role creating the HS program.
An aside, my last year on the board I was also the bantam coordinator and it was a challenge to first pick teams then reshuffle after HS teams were picked. We lost at least one player to Highland, Como, CDH, STA, SPA, Minnehaha Academy, Hill Murray, Breck, and (maybe, it was a long time ago!) Totino Grace.

I was just about to bring up the Kennedy cooperall’s and they show hills’. Aah the good old days😁

Cooperalls + Fresh Ice + me falling (per usual) = a long, fun slide on the ice until banging against the boards. 🤣 Luckily my Pro-Tec kept my melon reasonably safe.

I always watch on Saturday for the hockey attendance numbers at NHL rinks the night before. For years has the tournament has been #1 on the list.Wed attendance is always low for Class A. Though they fill the lower bowl and club for semifinals and the Class State Championship.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Go Northern Lakes. EGF is from the correct side of the river, but the uniforms make me ill with that green/white/black trim.

EGF's coach played for the "school" across the river too-- on the the wrong side.
2-0 egf late and an absolutely braindead check from behind. Will give northern lakes a chance with a 5 min major though they look like they’ve got dead legs
Regardless of the actions of the DE parents it will never hurt my feelings to see Randolph lose wherever he lands next. It doesn’t look like Northern Lakes spent much time working on the PP.
I think the Friday games on the A side should be pretty good matchups.
This was great… last night the camera man was frustrated… you could hear him say “why did you do that”.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Yeah he barked at 2 players from that team 🤣 I've never heard a cameraman talk like that before
Not saying he's Gophers material, but Vanek has looked better to me at least compared to what I've read up on him previously.
Too bad for Andover they couldn't get at least 1 in the 1st because I think they had the better of the play once Stillwater went up 2.
Blake Vanek is by no means his father but he is getting better and better. I think he will be worthy of the Gophers (not saying a top top end recruit but plenty good). I’m sure his name has given him some additional opportunities but he’s been with Chicago Steel and the NTDP this year, that definitely makes me think he should get a hard look from the staff on top of me thinking he will be a good college player.
Apparently they had nobody else to go to after Lou retired than Clymer, huh.

Blake Vanek really big player 6ft 4 inches has he committed anywhere yet?
Aloha!

No
I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey
#27 for Shakopee is someone to keep your eye on. He’s only a junior, plays D, but is built like a linebacker. Skates and handles the puck pretty good.

I thought this was a jerk move by the player. Not surprised you thought it was 'great'.

Did Lou do the afternoon games? Why do I think he just did evenings. If that would be true his replacement would yet to be seen cuz I don’t think he did evening class A quarters either.
no here retired from doing the games
Aloha!

I missed those intro’s did the camera get dried off before the next player cuz that would suck. Seems to be done a little more often lately so I won’t be surprised if they make changes with the camera location someday.
The camera was snowy wet for the last 2 Hibbing players.
