Shakopee won't be behind Andover (12-13 during the regular season) and I wouldn't be shocked to see them get a Top 5.
Shakopee is locked at 6. There is no case to be made for them being higher than the 5 listed above them.

Hibbing was the #3 in their section and gets the overall number #1 seed at State… Very much deserving.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Edina at a #5 seed, might be the strongest #5 seed since they started to seed the Tourney.

I'm pulling for Northern Lakes. One of the schools in the association (Aitkin) is my alma mater. Added bonus, it would be a kick the groin to all of the meddling hockey parents who got Mike Randolph fired at DE.

It’s the 8 coaches that seed the Tourney, not a committee. So they pick their top 7 teams excluding their team. So 1 or 2 coaches could stir things up with their seeds.

Are you coming to the Tourney to see the Ponies?
Are either of you two making the trip to StP?

YE and I will be there Thursday.
Mrs. GE and I are going Friday & Saturday, YE is getting dragged out of town for the weekend. 😖 😆

I am trying to figure out a way to make it work. My kids are far enough past high school that I'm not really as connected to the team as we were the first two times the Ponies went to state. But it's still awesome to see the boys make it.Are you coming to the Tourney to see the Ponies?
Are either of you two making the trip to StP?
Does anyone on this board who’s a STH for the Tourney use their consultation tickets?
I’ve been a STH for nearly 25 years and have never. I use to hand my set out to one of the losing teams fans Thursday afternoon as we exit the ‘X’, followed by giving to a coworker, so him and his could go watch the games and now that the tickets are digital, they just go unused.
The consultation tickets are pretty much free money for the MSHSL when comparing unused STH tickets to used STH tickets to tickets bought at the gate on campus.

My understanding is Conway transferred to Stillwater (I don’t know the exact details of who he’s residing with) and received a letter from MSHSL clearly him to play. Once he played two games, the MSHSL turned around and suspended him (unexpectedly) until the first week of February. Conway was then deemed eligible and played in Sections and (as they say) the rest is history! And an interesting aside, Conway made the USA Hockey National Festival 17 Camp last summer & Cruit made the USA Hockey National Festival 16 Camp last summer. This sets the stage for a terrific match up between Stillwater & Andover on Thursday @ 11am.Whats the story with the goalie transferring from Andover to Stillwater. Not neighboring schools or a short drive. It’s a good 45 minutes between the 2 schools
Yep… two day work week. Off Wed. so I can take my wife to an appointment. And we’ll be at the Tourney Thu-Sat. Saturday (we normally skip) is a trade off since she was in Oakland all last week… lol!!!

I'm a decent hockey fan this week, but a better husband. I'll take it. I just want 3 competitive games on Thursday and a St. Thomas 6-1 victory. That's just better for my heart health.

Cash Cruitt is the Junior goalie at Andover. He is a very good, 6'4'' had a .929 save percentage this year on a pretty mediocre team. Cal Conway, Senior transferred from Andover from Stillwater. Either not wanting to be the backup to Cruitt or backup/split time.
My understanding is he lives with the Vanek's.
Andover started the season 0-9 and is 15-4 since. They are very outmatched by Stillwater but a goalie can be an equalizer. There is a chance this game gets deep and is close if Cruitt can keep them in it. The catch, Stillwater is the best team in the State right now and also has a very good goalie.
Stillwater is undefeated with Conway in net. Should be a fun game for both goalies. Probably even more fun for the Andover student section. My understanding is Conway transferred to Stillwater (I don’t know the exact details of who he’s residing with) and received a letter from MSHSL clearly him to play. Between Conway & Cruitt it’s six of one & a half dozen of the other (I guess). 2 National Camp goalies & one net isn’t an ideal situation. Conway was the starter vs GR in the 7AA section final last year & played more games. Sucks he had to sit out two months of games, but Stillwater did make State (in the end) & so did Andover. Makes for a FUN game especially for the students Thursday! lolMy understanding is Conway transferred to Stillwater (I don’t know the exact details of who he’s residing with) and received a letter from MSHSL clearly him to play. Sorry for a memory lane visit. I have to interject a little bit of personal nostalgia in here.
52 years ago today. March 3, 1973. Henry Sibley upset unbeaten and #1 ranked South St. Paul 3-2, in the Region 1 final at the St Paul Civic Center for their first trip ever to the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament. An absolute white knuckler from start to finish and still one of the most incredible hockey games I have ever seen in person. Just one of a number of legendary battles between the two programs. From 1972 to 1983, one or the other school went to State every year but one. It was an incredible era for our part of the metro.
I wasn't around for the '73 team but remember a few years later a Spoden team that had a memorable state tournament tilt against Edina.Sorry for a memory lane visit. I have to interject a little bit of personal nostalgia in here.

After that, Sibley deteriorated fast and never again got back to that level of hockey.
Those South St. Paul vs. Sibley games back in the day were as good as it gets.

What an odd year within the framework of the A class.
-#1 seed with 9 losses
-#7 seed was 11-15-2 while #8 was 22-4-2
-#4 (EGF) was 3 games under .500 going into section play
Also:
-The coach of Northfield Mike Luckraft won a title with Burnsville and played 11 games at UM in 2 years
-The coach of Mahthomedi has been a head coach for 27 years - not sure if all @MHS
-I didn't realize Mike Randolph was the HC of Northern Lakes
-Have rosters always been limited to 20 players?
-Edina was 1-4 vs. the AA field which I think after very quickly perusing was the worst among the 8 in AA - would be nice to have a list of the same for all the teams
-The coach of Mahthomedi has been a head coach for 27 years - not sure if all @MHS
Poeschl has been at Mahotmedi all 27 years and is (looked this one up) 1 of 19 Minnesota high school coaches with over 500 wins.

@gator You can only roster 20 for your post season roster
Roster and dress 20? Though they must be able to bring 1 or 2 extra skaters in case of injuries?
Your section roster is set at 20. Teams usually have some extra practice players, but you cannot substitute into that section roster without the approval of the section coordinator, and then it is only for injury's sake.
I think you get a new chance to pick a new 20 for the state tourney-- but most teams have already picked their 20 so it is not really usually an issue. Again, you may have more practice players, but nobody is really practicing during the AA state tournament, and substitutions from that 20 are only allowed if approved by the tournament director-- which I believe are never.
Thanks for the info... a bit surprising for how safety concerns the MSHSL is. So if a player in in the Tourney gets hurt Thu, that team may have to skate a player short, unless the director allows them to fill the spot.

How many teams really play a full 4 lines of forwards and 3 D pairs? And how many would play that extra player if a starter went down vs shortening the bench?
I doubt this affects any teams.
Why did Stillwater forfeit two games earlier this year? The program states they forfeited twice around the turn of the new year.

Due to the goalie Conway having been deemed ineligible by MSHSL. The two forfeits were the two games Conway played in earlier in the season. There was a post about it yesterday: https://gopherpucklive.com/forum/postid/111228/Why did Stillwater forfeit two games earlier this year? A couple of Gophers recruits who would have made this list are playing for the Under 18 team or in the USHL.
I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey
Yes only roster 20 for the Tourney. Injury or not, the 20 you specify is the 20 you get. Of the 20 2 are goalies and 18 skaters.-Have rosters always been limited to 20 players?
You can roster I think 30 (paging @skiier32 ) and dress 20 for the regular season. Don't know how much that changes for post season.
Did you expect to add a JV player to the team and see them play in the State Tourney? How many teams really play a full 4 lines of forwards and 3 D pairs? And how many would play that extra player if a starter went down vs shortening the bench?

A player on 1st line JV is a good chance 4th line varsity. It’s a question. Just like in all other high school sports… The end of the bench is pretty much there to fill spots for practice.

In a perfect world in playoffs, those fourth line guys might have one exceptional skill, like a great penalty killer, or a dedicated faceoff guy.
But that is a perfect world. More often than not, they are a borderline JV player or a senior that might eat 2 minutes of game time all tournament and are along for the ride. That's why an injury replacement doesn't really happen that often at state.
Yeah typically the 4th or 3rd line of forwards is a swing line that plays both JV and Varsity with the 3rd line of D doing the same.Did you expect to add a JV player to the team and see them play in the State Tourney? How many teams really play a full 4 lines of forwards and 3 D pairs?
