Jamie really should give an update of B1G football scores during tonight's game. 🤩

Cappy on the pod was questioning the Notre Dame hockey team for losing focus possibly by watching the football game in the afternoon. Whether that’s true or not, my guess is it has happened before. Penn St did have that big game today that I’m sure the hockey team was aware of.
Didn't see the game, but that was a very nice victory today. Road win against a ranked team and especially against Illinois, who had beaten the Gophers the past three years.
It IS pointless to play the "what if" game, but even turning the North Carolina game into a "W" and a 7-2 record would be huge in a national sense. Oh well, I'm very happy at 6-3 and who knows what might happen in the final three games?
Evidently…the Gophers were 0-11 against Bielema coached teams before today. Big Big Win!

If not for the incorrect off sides call on the onside kick against Michigan (that the Big Ten league office admitted was wrong) the Gophers could be 5-1 in the Big Ten.
What a Turnaround in B1G results.

Maryland was a Blow out win, Ohio State was a blow out loss. Every other game you could reasonably see going the other way in an alternate universe. Let's enjoy this win streak because if your a mid tier team in B1G your fortunes can change quick.
Yes there are more bowl games then their use to be but you still have to win quite a few games in a tough conference that is top 2 (with the SEC) in the country.
For comparison Nebraska's last bowl game was 8 years ago.
Getting to a bowl game year after year isn't as easy as people think.
Yeah, I’m pretty surprised they had to review it for that long.
Not a fan of going for 2 there.
You always go for 2 there. The extra point is worthless because a TD still beats you either way.

Meh. Their kicker already badly missed a kick earlier. A PAT isn’t guaranteed. Plus, the later FG didn’t turn it into a two possession game.
I understand that statistics say I’m wrong. My opinion was more concentrated on how this specific game was going.
Luckily, it didn’t matter. The defense figured things out after that atrocious 5 play drive where they gave up multiple 20+ yard receptions earlier.

Right now the biggest rivalry in college football is Nebraska fans v. reality.

I know a diehard Nebraska fan, and even he says, yeah, they are good, but they have some issues. After the Indiana loss, he admitted: I have nothing.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

I get what you are saying...I just feel the best thing to do is make them need as many points as possible that late in the game. Force a decision if they score at the end and so on.
In the end we got a FG after that which was even better.

And the braindead media types who find reasons to give them Top 25 votes every year. Oklahoma is going to head down this road as well...
Rutgers will be without their starting RB today. More pressure is going to fall on Kaliakmanis to carry the load. That’s very favorable for the Gophers.
Gophers without Cooper on the OL, but Daniel’s played well last week so hopefully we get a repeat performance.
If Athan threw the ball like this for Minnesota he'd probably still be here.
Gophers down 14-9 at half against Rutgers. Gophers defense struggling to get out of their own way and refs are letting the big Rutgers WRs get away with some "physical plays" on some of their big plays.
Looks like the annual "really?!?" Loss could be coming against Rutgers this year.
That’s a brutal fumble but was very close to not being a catch. Then followed up by a terrible PI call. Rough 3 play stretch.

Yep they are suppose to win every game as a favorite. 🤨
The Gophers win games as an underdog and lose games as a favorite just like every other team. It is sports.

I'm really surprised that fumble didn't even get a look. Sure seemed like it was close enough to bang-bang to check it out.
That is the second completely bogus PI they called on a Gopher corner today.
Perich slips on the KR pinning the Gophers on their 15, Brosmer gets sacked, then throws a ball up to Jackson that the corner never turns around for while blocking Jackson from coming back to, then gets sacked in the endzone.
The Rutgers DB held Jackson all the way down field. Hard to get separation when that is allowed. On Rutgers possession right before this the PI gets called to give Rutgers first and goal at the two.
Call it both ways or not at all.

They've been letting one team play physical and not the other.
Not an excuse for the turnover that changed the game but certainly has put a damper on the Gopher ability to get any kind of separation.
Rutgers kicks a FG to go up 26-16. 2:45 left and the Gophers are out of timeouts.
Gophers kick a FG to cut it to 7 with 1:10 left. Onside kick attempt to come.
Rutgers recovers. Game over.
Disappointing loss to say the least.
Looks like the annual "really?!?" Loss could be coming against Rutgers this year.
The previous 3 losses were frustrating, but this one no excuse.
- UNC: Last second game winning field goal sailed right.
- Iowa: Leading at half and no show in the second.
- Michigan: Set themselves up to win by recovering the onside kick and the stripes decided differently.
- Rutgers: No excuses… No excuses… IT’S RUTGERS… Rutgers has true Fr. who only had one carry all season @ RB. Kaliakmanis is feeling very much like Souliere did last Saturday.
Keep your stick on the ice...
This is a pretty dumb loss to take but ultimately it’s not like it makes or breaks a big ten championship appearance or whatever. Team is bowl eligible and they can still potentially upset PSU or win the axe.
Yep they are suppose to win every game as a favorite. 🤨

Because its sports I am not supposed to be disappointed with the result? Or surprised by it?
We beat them 31-0 and 42-7 last two times we played. We are on a 3 game winning streak, they have lost 4 in a row and not looked competitive. They are without their starting RB. Their QB played awful when he played for us.
Everytime this program is about to build momentum they have a brutal loss.
Beat wisconsin, and its a fine season.
End on a 3 game losing streak, going 6-6, and ZERO trophies in the case and whatever bowl game you play in rings pretty hollow.
I’m a defender of Fleck. Though this one the naysayers can flame away. No excuse for this one.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Rutgers beat Washington this season. Washington was in the National Championship game last season.
Big Ten teams are all good enough to win.
The problem with Gopher football is they lose far more games they are favored then they win that they were the dog.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Gopher football has been mediocre for 60 years.
If firing the coach makes people feel better go ahead and fire the coach but the new coach will almost certainly have less success. See Gophers history over the last 14 coaches.
The last Gopher coach with a better winning percentage than PJ is Bernie Berman who coached from 1932-1941 and 1945-1950
Even Murray Warmth who was the coach in the 1960s had a winning % of only .526 from 1954-1971.
PJ's winning % is .588
Mason was .529
No where did I say fire the coach... I like Fleck. Hope he stays awhile longer. I agree that it would be incredibly difficult to find a better coach for this program.
I am frustrated with the loss, and the fact it happens a little too often. I am disappointed with our inability to beat Iowa.
We finally beat a Bert coached team this year at least.
Complaining about a loss automatically means I want to fire the coach?
I still think Mason could still be the coach here. He just had to many blunder loses. Plus his relationship with the high school coaches in this state was very cesspool like.
Keep your stick on the ice...
@fightclub30 My last post wasn't in reference to you. It was to the Gophers fans who talk about needing a new coach every time they lose.
The Gophers aren't good enough to win consistently. This is why I took great joy out of winning four straight Big Ten games. The other shoe was likely to drop at some point and it happened today.
There are always reasons to fire a coach but after firing Mason the program regressed.
PJ has been the best coach the Gophers have had in 60 years.
Even Nick Saban couldn't win here consistently. This is why when Nick Saban had success at Michigan State he moved to LSU and then when he had success at LSU he moved to Alabama.
It's why Lou Holtz left Minnesota to go to Notre Dame.
I’ll disagree with that take. And I’ll just agree to disagree.
Keep your stick on the ice...
The six years after Mason was fired the Gophers went 26-49.
I should’ve been more clear… I agree to disagree with your 3rd and 4th paragraphs.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Fleck is fine, he’s not exactly gonna take this program to the next level from what I can tell but as we all know you could certainly do worse.
It’ll be interesting to see what Indiana looks like a few years from now, they’ve been really good under their new coach and I’m curious how sustainable that is.
I don’t think this school has the athletic department or people above them to put together a football program that’s in the same realm as the usual title contenders. I don’t doubt that the ambitious coaches he mentioned recognized that fact and looked for better opportunities elsewhere.I should’ve been more clear… I agree to disagree with your 3rd and 4th paragraphs.
This university seems content on putting together a good but not great program that can play spoiler.
I don't mean to argue. I am just sharing my thoughts. Which we all are doing. 👍
Great coaches don't want to coach here. If we every do find a coach who develops into a great coach he will leave like Nick Saban did to Michigan State and Lou Holtz did to us.
I don't mean to say there aren't things to criticize about PJ but no coach is without some faults and coaches that have less faults then PJ aren't staying here.
I certainly wish we were more success (I have been a die hard Gopher fan my whole life) but the last 14 coaches seem to indication that is not the case.
As a kid the top 4 things I wanted to see in my life (sports related) before I die were
The Vikings winning the Super Bowl
The North Stars winning the Stanley Cup
The Gopher hockey team wining the National Championship
The Gopher football team winning the Rose Bowl or at least being in the Rose Bowl game
More than half way through my life I've gotten one of the four. Two of the other three can't really happen the way I was hoping since the North Stars left, the Pac 10/12 conference while coming back next season will be almost all new teams, and the Rose Bowl game every year is now part of the 12 team playoff so the Rose Bowl game is now a regular playoff game so not the way it use to be.
I guess I have to come up with a new goal for the Gopher football team. Maybe making the 12 team playoff some year like we might have in 2019 if it was a 12 team playoff then. That season with a 12 team playoff would have been very interesting would the Big Ten's three teams have been Ohio State, Penn State (2 losses), and Wisconsin even though Wisconsin had three losses (they ended losing a bowl game for their 4 loss), would the Gophers have gotten in with 2 loses with a win over Penn State, or would the Big Ten have only gotten two of the 12 playoff slots? We will never know.

my guess is the Indiana coach will take a big job in the next 2 years.
Indiana is having a great year and I don't mean to take away any of their success I am rooting for them but they only play one game this season against a ranked opponent and it is next week at Ohio State.
With the new 18 team conference the conference schedule you get (the luck of the draw) is very important to how many games you win.
This Indiana is clearly a lot better then previous Indiana teams.
I agree with @mikeeruzione11 that if their success continues their head coach will likely be coaching else where.
The thing about IU (and Army): they are the only 2 teams that have won every game by double digits. That's insane.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
And now it is just Army since Indiana beat Michigan today 20-15. This is Indiana's first 10 win season in program history.
Michigan has 5 losses they just can't keep up with the Gophers in the Big Ten standings.
