Someone a few pages back said the Gophers were 100-3-3 all time vs SCSU, and Minnesota is the #1 team in the country, so yeah... I guess I can't blame them for celebrating. Nice win for their program.

I was under the apparently false assumption that this was an exhibition game? Apparently not, it will count like any non-conference regular season game? Either way, I was concerned that this past weekend series against UMD, which was both physical and emotionally draining, might adversely affect their play against this year's vastly improved St. Cloud State team.

It's normally done at lower levels where travel and budgets come in to play more. The NCAA gives you X amount of games to play and the conference schedules 2/3 of them and you can play whoever for the others. Also is the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame for the women might be a free game that doesn't count towards X amount like the men's game is. Thats probably why they played SCSU

Pretty sure this is the case, yes. With no actual non-conference teams being vaguely close to sneak in a game on a Monday night like that, it seems they just needed to take one of the other WCHA teams.
