Is Spehar the kid who plays for a different team/organization every year?
He and the Potter kid both fit that description.
Formerly known as davey j.
I think Bob will offer Potter though
Is Spehar the kid who plays for a different team/organization every year?
There's a few that fit this bill, Spehar is one and Cullen Potter is another one who's probably best avoided due to parents/constantly jumping ship.
That stinks! My son played with him on several teams and he is the best player I’ve ever seen. I feel very confident in saying his hands were good enough for college hockey when he was 12. Every single game he would make all of us dads’ jaws drop from what he could do with the puck!!
Potter is a better skater, but no other 07 I ever saw had better vision, poise, hands, or creativity than Conrad Fondrk! He’s a very nice kid too!

Very very good player. Apparently he was locked in on BU and no one else stood much of a chance. Oh well. Anyone know how he was able to commit so early?
He may have committed without getting a technical offer yet, it’ll be interesting to see if BU even posts anything about it till 8/1.

I see I got beaten to the punch, but I’ll post this roster also as it has heights and weights.
Cooper Simpson F
Sam Spehar F
Jacob Rombach D
Danny Klaers D
These are the MN kids for those wondering. Simpson is a Michigan lean and Spehar is a Nodak lean but both Rombach and Klaers have a good chance of being Gophers from what I’ve heard.

Motzko is elite level when it comes to recruiting defensemen. Keep this crazy train rolling.
I love Danny Klaers game! Cooper Simpson would be a huge get too! He would be a huge thorn in the side of every team the Gophers play…and I would love to see him play against NDak!!

Here is a thread with commentary on a bunch of potential recruits

That is really cool. Whomever runs the account does a great job.
There are several names that don’t belong on these lists, but it’s still fun to look at!

Such as who? I have no info on these kids but am always interested to hear from those who do.

I’m not naming names because I am to close to too many people in these year classes.

About time for people on this site to get riled up about Alex Bump again (I am one of those people)

My son played against him in Fargo. He was playing with a bunch of EGF kids so a good team. He was a pretty good player. He scored, we lost.
Irrationally excited for August 1st.
Doesn't look good on Hagens...

Hagens always seemed like a long shot. At least good to know prior to the date. Still great talent out there.
As long as we get LJ Mooney I’m fine

not saying we get Hagens but that website has been wrong before. I think we still have a shot.

Door not closed for sure. Just a lot of tea leaves pointing in another direction from the jump.

I was just somewhat surprised that Minnesota wasn't even listed as one of the teams in the running. I think we just assumed that with Eiserman as his BFF and the fact Hagens follows the Gophers on social media we were in the mix. Maybe we will wake up on August 1st with a present under the tree from Santa.

Garrett Lindberg on a visit today according to someone on the hated green team’s website.
sign em up Bob!
Also read that we have pursued Sam Laurila. No mention of a visit and this one may be a long shot and no decision expected from him until later in the year.
Aug. 1 targets I’m looking at and my guess at odds. Would love others options.
Cullen Potter - 25%
LJ Mooney - 60%
Ryder Betzold - 10%
Mason Kraft - 80%
Parker Deschene - 50%
James Hagens - 20%
Mason Jenson - 50%
Gavin Kor - 30%
Malachi McKinnon - 30%
Ashton Schultz - 50%
Copper Simpson - 10%
Sam Spehar - 10%
Blake Vanek - 85%
Carson Clark - 30%
Landon Cottingham - 30%
Logan Hensler - 5%
Danny Klaers - 50%
Sam Laurila - 10%
Garret Lindberg - 25%
Maceo Phillips - 30%
Good list. I’d add Spring Lake Park Dman Jacob Rombach to this list. He’s very very good. Rocketing up a lot of people’s lists. Many are saying if the NTDP tryouts were now instead of a couple months ago he’d be on the team.
Anticipation for August 1 is building! It’s my favorite time of the year right up there with October-March?

for some reason I had it in my head that he was only a Sophomore this year. You are correct in he’s eligible Aug 1.
My guess at his odds at 60%

Maceo Phillips is someone interesting as a 6'5" high school defenseman. Why 30% for an estimate? Just wondering, I'm not plugged in to any recruiting boards. Seems like a big (pun intended) get

All my guesses are based on social media, random rumblings on websites and historical trends on who Bob targets. Unless I’ve seen interest from either parties, I put my percentages around 20-30%.
Hope this doesn’t hurt our chances with LJ Mooney.

I don't think Logan would not say anything but great things about his experience at Minnesota. If Mooney decides to go elsewhere, it won't because Logan left here after 1 year on his own terms.

I would imagine Cooley would not even have considered staying if he did not have a great experience. If Mooney goes elsewhere, guessing it was because he felt it was a better fit.
Agreed. Just nervous after the shock of Cooleys decision.

This same article says Mason Kraft's top choice is the Gophers.
If anything this helps our case for Mooney. His cousin is (potentially) signing an NHL deal after one year in college. Isn’t that what Mooney is looking for? A place that can develop him that quickly?
FWIW from someone on the web. ( Maybe the Hill Murray AD can point him in the right direction )

I’m feeling really good about Mooney after the comments from Cooley after his signing.
heck maybe it helps with some of the other targets too!
Last summer the Gophers got 3 Minnetonka Skippers to commit in the first week. Whether that’s due to Jack Ramsey and Steve Johnson being high school coaches or not it was good to get a foothold in probably the most booming community in MN hockey right now (in terms of pumping out quality college prospects).
I predict they keep that going and land forward Ashton Schultz and defenseman Danny Klaers this summer.
- While an exciting time, I expect tBob and company to have a measured approach. If I recall correctly, they added five players in the early period last summer:
- John Whipple
- Teddy Townsend
- Brodie Ziemer
- Cole Eiserman
- Javon Moore
Would expect similar numbers. Players I feel good about landing:
- LJ Mooney
- Mason Kraft
- Ashton Schultz
- Danny Klaers
- Jacob Rombach
Coin flips:
- Ma'ceo Phillips
- Parker Deschenes
- Garrett Lindberg
Players I expect to go elsewhere:
- Logan Hensler
- Cullen Potter
- James Hagens
- Sam Spehar
- Ryder Betzold
- Sam Laurila
If they offer Kraft and Vanek they will be Gophers but I’m not 100% convinced either one of them will get August 1st offers.
