@gophers2023 I know I’m a biased gopher fan, but I do not get the fascination with Caufield. He’s a good player but he’s so small and so one dimensional, he better be potting 30 goals in the chel to be playable
I don't know. Last night he was a lot more noticeable on the ice than the guy the Wild drafted ahead of him.
I see what you did there.
Ha yeah. But there’s not a chance I’d second guess that decision now

Jacob Rombach commits to the gophers
6'5"...we are certainly getting some big horses for the blue line. I wouldn't want to skate in deep on them haha
Played at Spring Lake Park, that may be a first.
Story from earlier this month
Sky is the limit from what I’ve read on this kid. Phillips is 6”6, Rombach 6”5, Rinzel 6”4, Thomas 6”2. There’s a chance they all play together in 25-26. Can you imagine?
Edit: and those first two could grow some more by the time they make it to campus!!
The defensive pipeline seems pretty well set. Hoping they land Parker Deschene or Gavin Kor up front next.
Gophers seem to be putting a lot of emphasis on USHL experience this recruiting cycle. All four 07’s already playing USHL their jr. years plus Hayden Reid who should be playing at least 2 as well.
Has Motzko brought in anyone straight out of high school? Trying to recall...granted, different game than even ten years ago. I think the staff appreciates some experience at the junior level.
Sammy Walker? I think he committed under Lucia. So maybe just Bryce Brodzinski?

Good call. Brodzinksi the one clear example.
Not sure if this point was made, but do the Nevers Brothers remind anyone of the Hankinson Brothers? YOu have the smaller type of guy, the older brother like Peter and Mason. Then the younger brother(s) being huge players.

A little before my time, but I was surprised to see how big Jackson was the other day. He will be a power forward by the time he is on campus.

LaCombe came directly from Shattuck.
Brinkman? He was really young his first year if memory serves.
Even guys who play 3-4 years in high school end up spending time in juniors after the high school season. Brodzinski if memory serves.

The goal is like 4 feet offside. Pretty funny if you get a chance to watch it.
4 feet is a stretch, but yes definitely offsides. Do they not have challenges/reviews in the USHL?
It’s been mentioned to death in this thread but Owen Bartoskziewicz with a phenomenal start to his season. Stopped 33/35 tonight against Chicago. This team is in good hands after Closer graduates with him and Airey.
I have a good friend who teaches and is an assistant football coach at Spring Lake Park and he just gushes about what a great kiid Rombach is!
Formerly known as davey j.
I feel like I hear about "What a great person [BLANK] is" with every Motzko recruit. Which means he values personality and accountability with his players, along with skill. Not just bringing in some shithead because he plays hockey good.
"Not just bringing in some shithead because he plays hockey good"
In fairness, those are recruits are typically scooped up by UND as soon as they are eligible.
Brodie Zeimer and Javon Moore both get a “C” rating (4th or 5th round) while John Whipple gets a “W” rating (6th or 7th round) https://twitter.com/nhlcentralscout/status/1717180513671102727?s=61&t=-_wGA13cAbVi0rBpXZvfNA
Motzko has had a good track record of getting players whose stock continues to rise into their draft season and beyond. Doesn’t seem like that’s the case for next year’s class, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be productive college players.
Ziemer is gonna be a fan favorite I can’t wait for him

Yes he will be. I always look forward to the new group of incoming recruits. But the recruiting expert on Gopherhole is very down on him and Whipple. It reminds me of when people were very down on Rem Pittlick because he was not developing as quickly as they liked in juniors. I believe he ended up ok. It must take so much energy to always be on the lookout for the negative.

Surprised to see Ziemer and Whipple so low. Unsure if the rankings skew on the conservative side. As others have mentioned, not much of an issue when it comes to their collegiate careers and could be a blessing.
Excited for Ziemer. Looks to profile as a high compete player with two-way chops and some scoring punch. Whipple is not the high-end prospect he was forecasted as but seems to be solid in his own end, plays the body, and can make the first pass.
Zero concerns with tBob getting them to contribute.

Whipple’s offensive production has stalled at the NTDP which is likely the reason for his slip but if anything that means we get a year or two more out of him at the U so no complaints from me.
Ziemer is very Kyle Rau-esque from the limited viewings I’ve seen. Speed, skill and grit. Wears a letter at the NTDP too.
I haven’t really watched many NTDP games this season but from last season Ziemer seems like a good complimentary guy that can play up and down a lineup and still chip in offensively. Whipple’s offense hasn’t really translated from his Shattuck days and it’s a small sample size but currently he’s only behind Hensler and Hutson points wise and scoring at a higher rate than last year.

You are not saying that the recruiting "expert" over there is over reacting again... ?

Perfectly fine with some Guys being underdrafted and rising up. Trajectory Brody Lamb or Connor Kurth on is always nice to have on your roster.
Some friendly fire tonight with Hendrickson and Reid both scoring against Bartoszkiewicz. Barto still stops 34 shots in the win.

Dipping back into the European pool I see. Great pickup!
Didn't see that coming. ?
He played two professional games in Sweden. Is up to a certain number of pro/CHL games exempt?
I assume a lock for their WJC team

That is a good question. I remember Bristedt had to sit out a couple of games because of a similar situation. Not sure what the exact rule is, but I'm sure Bob and Company are well aware of what it is and what potential issue that could be.

I think it was more favorable for Bristedt. It was a pro player playing down with his junior team.

Pahlsson played up with the pro team and therefore may have gotten paid for those games? Or maybe it's like a tryout.
Stupid question - clearly some digital design going on when they show these kids in a college jersey, but is he currently a #33, or is this a guess as to the number he’d be in a Gopher uniform?
I don’t think that’s a dumb question, and it’s probably the latter. His current number is #23 ie Jimmy Clark’s number (who presumably will still be around when this dude comes in) so you’re probably right in that assumption.
Pahlsson is a good add. Looks like an immediate contributor and likely pushes Townsend and Nevers out to 2025, which I am just making an assumption was the plan all along.

Thanks for this info. I knew he missed a couple of games but could not remember what the circumstances were. I also think there is/was a current player in the NCAA that had a similar issue, but I could be 100% wrong on that. With the NC$$, you never know what the rules are. Like I said, I'm sure Bob knows if or what a potential penalty could be. Unfortunately Bob can't talk about it until he signs his NLI.

33 is Axel Begley so he’ll have to go a different route
With the NIL, I wonder if there will be changes to any rules against players being paid to play in other leagues. Seems a bit meaningless now...

A fair point. I trust the NCAA to botch its decision-making at every turn - and the guise of amateurism will still be there - but seems adjustments are required, even if NIL is not directly linked to play.

The NCAA has jurisdiction for sports rules and eligibility related to the sport itself. The courts allow the NCAA to ensure a level playing field if it is directly related to the athletic contest itself (officials, drugs, gambling, etc.).
NIL is about an athlete being able to leverage their brand which is separate from a sport. You see a Nike Jumpman (Michael Jordan) logo on football jerseys for example.
Getting paid to play a sport is directly related to the sport itself as far as keeping a level playing field, and the NCAA can regulate it. Getting paid to sell a product is not directly related the sport and thus the courts won't let the NCAA regulate it.
(Yes, I realize the distinction is slim, and nobody is buying Mohammed Ibrahim-branded Gushers on account of his name alone apart from being a Gopher football player, but that is the current law and the dividing line here. So NIL basically will have nothing to do with the decision)
