My 2 cents worth--
Ziemer is going to be fun to watch the next few years. Seems like a heart and soul type of player.
Huglen was great tonight. Maybe it's old man strength, but he really can keep possession of the puck.
Lamb was also very active tonight. Continues a great JR year.
Airey played fine. Made some really tough saves. But, I will expect Souliere tomorrow.
Now some criticism--
I think Snuggy struggled tonight. Maybe trying to do too much. 1 example was with about a minute left he lost the puck on the boards going away from the net, when he should have tried to dump it down low. It lead to a rush the other way.
The PK needs work.
Michel has been solid all year, but he can't take a 5 in a game when we are already short.
The Gophers did not look good in OT. Maybe fatigue, but they are normally much better.
Gophers went toe to toe with them. Solid effort and a winnable game. Can't be too mad because of the circumstances. Rest up boys, and empty the tank tomorrow.
I was going to add my observations but your write-up is exactly what I would have written.
Augustine was a difference maker but Airey made some nice breakaway stops as well.
Agree on Snuggy. He is noticeably better than others on the ice but not consistently. That was obvious during OT.
Just a few thoughts. VERY gutsy effort from a limited Gopher forward line. Yes, I agree a couple key D guys did not have their best games, but maybe because of very good competition. After that I do not believe that MState is a better team than we are at ALL. Just the opposite. We are very low on numbers and held them to a tie (sorry the shoot out is meaningless and should go away. If you need a clear winner keep playing). Some interesting calls BOTH ways but overall the Gophers stood tall and hopefully come out hot again tomorrow. I really think after watching WE are the better overall team so go out and show it
Gutty performance.
Moore going head first into the boards in the third scared the hell out of me, glad he’s ok.
One criticism, and not just tonight, they can be a little cavalier with the puck in the D zone.
Huglen was awesome tonight.
MN got in trouble in the second when they started losing face off. Started winning more and the game tilted back.
huglen really looked crisp on his skates
I admit I didn't watch the game but I see nothing to be negative about. 24 hours ago no one would have complained about this outcome based on the circumstances.
100%. If you told me we would skate 7 or 8 forwards by the end of a game against the #2/3 team and get 43 shots and tie, I'd be farkin thrilled.
it wasn't a bad loss or a game that got away. It was a damn fine performance. MSU looks to be quite good this year and we tied them with half a team.
I was very glad to see Ziemer back out on the ice after that awkward fall into the boards in the second. He got up and slammed his stick on the boards in frustration and went down the tunnel. Maybe five minutes he was gone but that could have sucked had it been anything serious.
So glad we have a couple weeks to let some things heal up.
Some ups and downs in the game but agreed as mentioned above that despite missing a lot of guys we really still were the better team, despite the refs trying their damndest to create parity in the game; although I think it came out more like parody. Friday the 13th “taco night” was a good time.
Looking forward to tonight’s game!
Yeah after Michel went out the team was down a whole line, even before the game started that line involved Huglen double shifting and Begley is a Dman.I admit I didn't watch the game but I see nothing to be negative about. 24 hours ago no one would have complained about this outcome based on the circumstances.

If Wood is back tomorrow I really like the gophers chances.
On a side note I gotta say the reffing in that one was bad even by B1G standards in some moments. The one where the puck was in top of the net and they shoved it in was pretty wild to see live and the ref standing right next to this called it a goal 😂
Great game. Would have been very easy for the boys to quit after going down 3-2 and give up another but they grinded out the tie.
Wood back for Saturday and should be angry about getting cut.
Ziemer-Huglen-Snuggerud
Kurth-Clark-Wood
Hendrickson-Moore-Lamb
Begley-Jmitts-Michel
Given that we only had 17 skaters, hard to feel too disappointed in our play. A lot of the stuff I saw could be explained away with guys being asked to fill roles they wouldn't normally fill and share shifts with guys they don't normally share them with. In that regard, it actually kind of feels like we overachieved with a tie. The only real frustrating part was that there were opportunities for us to take complete control of the game that slipped away because we weren't at our best.
With Airey getting an assist on the tying goal, the only guys who've played and have yet to earn points are Begley and Souliere. Only a matter of time for those two.

After a SO loss, pairwise tie, which strangely occur way to often…I can’t recall the last time a Gopher fan didn’t believe they were “actually” the better team…lol The Spartans have a good team & 9 of the 10 forwards Gophers skated are pretty effective players (isn’t Michel a D)? Will be nice though having a clearly motivated Wood for the rematch tonight! The reason Huglen looks so good probably has something to do with the wings he’s skating with, easier to look good when you’re not essentially centering the 4th line (when everyone was healthy early in the season). Huglen also often played in tandem with Pitlick, his departure has likely affected him more than anyone else.Just a few thoughts. VERY gutsy effort from a limited Gopher forward line. @bearpaw28 Begley is D; not Michel.
Tough performance regardless though. Play well again tonight and get healthier over the break.
Will echo many of the thoughts on Ziemer. Assuming he is here three or four years, would expect him to wear a C and be trustworthy in all situations. Impressive player.
On campus for the game let’s gooooooo!!!
Comparing two 100% healthy teams Minnesota is the better team. Like others said, going into OT the team was out of gas. 3lines up against 4 lines with the top 2 teams in the country shows the strength of the Gophers. The character to gut it out is impressive. Go Gophers!
3 breakaways in regulation. Kurth, Hendrickson, Chelsey (sort of a breakaway as he didn’t have much space). Plus 1 breakaway in OT for Chesley.
Zero goals.
Notoriously bad at shootouts last 2 years.
They need to practice breakaways more. I get not practicing shootouts. But fast paced, choppy ice with a back checker hitting you with the stick has to be a drill correct?

It better be a drill. Team needs to bury the puck on those chances. Frustrating.

Wood back is massive
We got Wood, yes we do, we got Wood, how ‘bout you?
The student section would be so much more fun if I was I charge. 😉
Pretty good back and forth period. Both teams with good scoring chances. Augustine is good lol
Good first period. Man is Gruba slow.
That is a really bad penalty call in my opinion. Despite what Lou is saying ahah
And they score. Man that sucks
That is a really bad penalty call in my opinion. Despite what Lou is saying ahah
It’s a penalty if you call it all game. Thats the problem Is refs are wildly inconsistent calling it
There we go!
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

Papa Huglen BOOOOOM. Grat play by J Mitts
The Gophers are to nice wearing their maroons. Should've worn their whites and made Sparty pack two sets of uniforms.
Keep your stick on the ice...
NO penalty?
No way that's a 5, but.....

I didn't think you can take a penalty away? It's still interference lol
@collegehockeyaddict j mitts has been noticeably good tonight. Lots of jump
Keep your stick on the ice...
If Gruba lowers his head Stramel hits him in the head with the raised elbow resulting in a 5 minute major and a game misconduct but Gruba kept his head up so they way off the original 2 minute penalty and call nothing.
Lowering your head is clearly a way to draw penalties.
I didn't think you could either. I agree on no penalty but I didn't think they could go to review and eliminate the penalty.I didn't think you can take a penalty away? It's still interference lol
I thought it was a 2 (which it should have been). Horrible.
