Here we go.....
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
They spilt earlier in the season so the State Championship is on the line.
Oh yeah and a trip to the Frozen Four.
Hopefully Coach learned his lesson. In my opinion, he should only be playing 10 forwards at this point of the season with the TV timeouts.
1 down, 3 to go! GO GOPHERS!!! Can’t wait to be there!

Yeah I was coming here to say that.
I wouldn't mind dressing 11 F and 8 D, honestly. Dress Fish, sit Schmidt / Pino / Strobel. One of those D can play a shift at F if need be. With all the TV timeouts, really not that necessary to have so many F lines.
play like they did in the 3rd all game and they should roll the Huskies. Can't take periods off/start slow. Not a team you want to trail with how Castor is playing.
I had to go back and look. Clymer makes his asinine comment with less than two and a half minutes elapsed in the third and the Gophers up by only a pair.
Ok dumb question from an old guy who hasn't spent much time in Dinkytown. I'm going to a concert at the Varsity Theater Saturday night so I'll probably have to catch the tail end of the game nearby there. Is Blarney's the best spot or somewhere else?

I would not go to Blarneys ever, but especially on a Saturday night. Drunk college kid spot. Everything is sticky and they have small tvs.
My guess would be Buffalo Wild Wings if you want big tvs.
Size matters.

Take the short drive to Ray Js. Good food, chill atmosphere and big screens. Should be plenty of street parking
@streakygopher thanks, I am taking an Uber down there but maybe I'll Uber to Ray J's and watch from there and walk or short Uber over to the Varsity.
Gophers are -180 favorites. Over/Under 5.5
Gophers are -180 favorites. Over/Under 5.5
implied probability of about 64% for those keeping score not at your local book
I have a feeling Knies is going to get the game winner.
Here's hoping we take it to Stearns County CC.
Yeah they’re drunk college bars lol, I don’t mind going to them to be on campus for these games but you know what you’re getting. Kollege klub is nearby and BWW has the best TV situation but it’s your typical corporate chain (where the bartender doesn’t understand that a “Tito’s mule” and a Moscow mule are the same thing). There’s pluses and minuses with each option.Ok dumb question from an old guy who hasn't spent much time in Dinkytown. College kids don’t ask for liquor by brand. It confuses the tender when someone does.

B Loco is a block away, TVs present, and great burritos.
Haven't posted here in a long time - just want to say let's win so I have a better reason to go to Tampa and visit family over Easter.
Agreed with what everyone else has said - shorten the bench and we lock it up.
The challenge for this game is there is no mystique. SCSU is familiar with us, they know they can play with us and confidence won't be an issue. They won't have that "doubt" in their mind.
Sometimes when you get a team you haven't faced they can look at your record, seed, and the news/commentary and that will allow some fear/doubt to creep in. SCSU won't have that and will come out confident.
Scoring first hasn't meant a lot for us lately, being down to Canisius into the the 2nd and losing to MI, but this may be a game where it is important.

The "mystique" factor goes both ways. We also know we can play with St. Cloud and beat them.
Saw Vegoe’s tweet about Larson saying they have a game plan against the Gophers. No secret really to it. They put everyone behind the puck, similar to how an inferior soccer team plays. Their biggest strength is shot blocking.
Wasn’t impressed with Cloud in January and I’m still not impressed with them. Castor is the X factor but we have the skill to put some by him. Boys can’t get frustrated and they need to stay disciplined. Get pucks deep and grind it out!
That "strategy" is proven to work against us. We've seen it play out several times over the years as we struggle against our MN brethren and they lock us down. We split SCSU this year, but they won 3-0 and we had to use OT. I'm confident we can win, but I'm also confident we could get shut out again - depending on how things go.
We need to play a gritty vs. pretty game and Close has to be on his game. Two critical needs.
I think most teams know what they have to try and do to slow down the Gophers. The problem is doing that for 60 minutes against them, its difficult against this talented group. Some teams can do it for a period or so but eventually when they have a breakdown the Gophers pounce on it and normally make them pay.
The only thing that's going to stop Minnesota is Minnesota. They might be able to sneak past bad teams playing scared like they did last night, but a good team will take them apart.
We split SCSU this year, but they won 3-0 and we had to use OT.
It was 3-0 because of two empty net goals.
Bob has a dilemma on his hands with 10 and 17. Both are playing extremely well. Not enough minutes to go around.
The Gophers will watch the UMD vs St. Cloud games and Stomp St. Cloud on Saturday. A strong forecheck against St. Cloud is their weakness. Go Gophers

Also, Minnesota had four guys who had just returned from World Juniors (as opposed to one for SCCC), and might have been a little tired after playing 7 games in 11 days.

I didn’t ask by brand, I asked for a Moscow mule and “Tito’s mule” was on the cocktail menu. Not a big deal but the bar rescue guy probably would’ve loved that one ?Yeah they’re drunk college bars lol, I don’t mind going to them to be on campus for these games but you know what you’re getting. So we don't play well when we DON'T play and don't like the weeks off and we DON'T play well when we play too much?
? I kid. I kid.
Agree some posts I’ve seen. St. Cloud’s D like to play a slow patient game and wait for the play to develop rather than getting it going North as quick as possible like the Gophers. They want to go D to D every time. Pressure their D and they WILL cough up the puck.
Gotta assume Peart and the Micah Miller line will (try to) be matched up against the Gophers hot shot line. Since Bob gets last change that might be hard to do. If I’m Bob and I see Micah Miller and co. hopping over the boards I throw 18-24-22 over the boards immediately.

We are goldilocks the frequency of games needs to be just right. ?
In all seriousness there is a large range between 1 game in 20 days vs. 7 games in 11 days that this team has shown they can play really well in and I hope all of us can see that neither of these extremes is likely to result in the best performance.
A game or two in 20 days is not good at all, unless you have a bunch of injuries you're nursing.
Maybe it was good for the team to grind it out for two periods last night. That kind of hockey gets them back into game shape, and it's a helpful reminder there are no easy outs—even against a 16 seed. The game ended in a rout, but there were sweaty palms for two periods.
Last year Denver had pretty much the same kind of game going against Mankato that Minnesota did. But they stayed with it and broke the seal, something the Gophers could not do. It hurt Mankato that they weren't talented enough offensively to capitalize on a one-goal lead, just as it hurt Canisius. That stuff happens, and hopefully the Gophers learned last night that if you can't punch through, you can lose to a mucker team who commits to defense.
Outside of things the Gophers can't control (puck luck and Lucia's Officials) I think Coach Motkzo needs to put the Cooley line out every chance he see's Peart on the bench (last change). Prediction: Gophers 4-3
I remember last year we looked off for stretches during the UMass game, then put on an absolute clinic against Western Michigan. I could see something similar happening on Saturday. Seems like they started to find their game in the 3rd last night.
I thought the momentum started to swing after MN killed off Huglin’s second period penalty. They seemed to get their feet moving.

I seem to remember that as well. They started to come at them in waves.
you don't chase matchups when you have the best line in college hockey. When Cooley's line is ready, you send them, and let the other team worry about dealing with itOutside of things the Gophers can't control (puck luck and Lucia's Officials) I think Coach Motkzo needs to put the Cooley line out every chance he see's Peart on the bench (last change). I’d go a step further and say that Denver was getting dominated everywhere but the score sheet up until they finally scored. Denver goalie stood on his head and outplayed his counterpart. But overall I agree with your post, it was a good game to get the team ready for tomorrow from a physicality and chemistry standpoint and just getting used to that rink/ice etc. if nothing else. Close had a really nice save to keep it a 2-1 score too that could’ve really changed the game if he didn’t make it.Last year Denver had pretty much the same kind of game going against Mankato that Minnesota did. I think there were two at that point. One where he went post to post and another that was deflected and he caught it up near his shoulder, both on his right side.I’d go a step further and say that Denver was getting dominated everywhere but the score sheet up until they finally scored. Yeah was referring to the post to post save but he had some others too.
Agreed, they seemed to be slowly taking complete control about halfway through the second period.I thought the momentum started to swing after MN killed off Huglin’s second period penalty. They seemed to get their feet moving.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Ok, it’s our destiny to evict the NCHC from the tourney.
