CUE THE BATTLE HYMN. Doesn’t matter how but a sweep is a sweep is a sweep
Ask and you shall receive.
I will take ugly wins given how many pretty losses I have seen in my lifetime. I like teams who can win in different ways. Penn State had a good gameplan...let's see how team adjusts.
lmao…Mr Credibility! 🤣 was a hell of a performance by Souliere and a nice win by the Gophers! But seriously…that was priceless. Thx!OMG…talk about throwing a hanging curveball…akin to teeing one up for Freddy (Fning) Freeman…lol…did U really say that? (after last weeks call on Gleason). You’ve demonstrated in ♠️ that it all depends on which color jersey you wear (from your esteemed viewpoint).Selfish hockey by 81. Just like last year.
Bull. It was barely a penalty. That said PSU has provided the game film on how to beat the Gophers.
Hello…what’s goes around comes around. DUDE…😂
Your what hurts?
I'm sorry your team sucks. Have a nice day.
SWEEP!!
Good that the team got pushed this weekend. Lots of film to go over with them this week. Valuable lessons will be learned hopefully! In the end, the record is 7-1. Anyway, is there still an ignore feature to block out certain posters?
The Gophers clearly aren't the same offense team without Cal Thomas.
6 games with him 33 goals.
He got hurt less than 6 minutes into the game last night and the team scores only 4 goals total this weekend.
He must be the key to their offensive game. 😉
The Gophers have now won 10 of 11 games against Penn State.
Penn State was 4-1 and ranked coming into the series. They played well especially tonight. We ended their season last year and they were out for revenge this weekend but in the end

Yes living in your head rent free is priceless!
great. Now the whole NCAA knows how to attack us. Not beat us though. The Gophers clearly aren't the same offense team without Cal Thomas.

Through 6 games the Gophers offense was deservingly getting a lot of attention but it resulted in how well they were playing defensively to go some what unnoticed.
Through 8 games they have given up 13 goals and one of those was in a 3 on 3 OT so in regulation they are giving 1.50 goals per game.
Boy not much to pump our fists about tonight but dammit a win is a win! And a sweep is a sweep! They aren’t all gonna be pretty!
Shots don’t matter unless they go in. 😁 We made ours count. Great way to start the first full home series weekend.
Hopefully some lessons to be learned and things to polish up before we go kick the crap out of the skunks.
always love a 🧹🧹🧹!
Props to the Band. That was an epic rendition of the Battle Hym.

Add to that, thank you to the Anthem singer Friday night. Dang! She was spectacular.

They honored Dave Snuggerud after the first. He had the look of “I know I have to smile, but my son just did a very stupid thing.”
PSU played like Quinnipiac. They were hard on pucks but don't have shooters.
Minnesota played good defense both nights but what a head scratcher for the offense. Last night was mediocre and tonight woof. Must have been a late night for the boys last night.
Snuggy is a captain and can't be doing that crap. I'm not sure that was even a major but you can't blow up somebody in college hockey. That's always a call.
Souliere deservedly player of the game.

Snuggy had a hands-down major. That was about as textbook as you can get. Elbow in play, targeting, everything.

C’mon, didn’t you see that absolute SNIPE by Jimmy Clark at the end!?
This is pretty cool...
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
So maybe someone answered this awhile ago, but why did Souliere leave Penn? You play for 4 years, get the net, etc. why leave for your 5th year? Is he a grad student here at the U? Just wondering.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

Publicly, via this :
“My four years at Penn State were awesome and I wouldn’t trade anything in the world for them,” said Souliere, 25, in an exclusive conversation with The Rink Live. “I think I just needed to change the scenario for my last crack at getting something in pro (hockey) that would make me satisfied.”
Privately, not sure if there were other factors/reasons.
As I understand it, it was a “mutual parting of ways”
Well, in today's NCAA it may be a penalty, but from what i remember, he kept his elbow out of it. The severity of the hit brought their heads together.PSU played like Quinnipiac. They were hard on pucks but don't have shooters.

If there were a 5-min major for stupidity, that was it. College hockey has favored an extremely conservative interpretation of big hits, which is probably okay, and all the more reason for players to stay away from them. We've seen blow-up hits like this called all the time because the league is focusing on them. Any head contact, even due to players coming together versus leading with the head, is automatic.
I am/was a big fan of Scott Stevens (Devils) and that was a Stevens hit. Old school hockey, that hit was rather standard. As you said, in today's hockey, that kind of hit is a big no-no.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Scott Stevens was a stud but he was also a bit of a predator and maybe even dirty. He made a career out of blasting unaware players.
Thankfully, the NHL has cleaned up that stuff about hitting vulnerable players.

was a textbook head contact 5 min. He initiated and launched up into him. Only question was if he was getting the gate for the night and I think it was the right call to boot him
Going back and watching on replay, it was a direct shoulder-to-head contact. If Snuggy hadn't lifted his shoulder into the hit (which he clearly did, I thought it looked like it live, but definitely on replay) I think he might have gotten by without the Game Misconduct, and maybe would have been only 2 minutes. But, with the play he actually made, there's no way he wasn't getting kicked.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
I'd be surprised if he doesn't get suspended. Even for someone like me it looked like targeting in real-time, and he hadn't even gotten to the puck.
I wouldn't really be surprised either way. He did get ejected in the 1st period, so, they may not add another game.I'd be surprised if he doesn't get suspended. Even for someone like me it looked like targeting in real-time, and he hadn't even gotten to the puck.

He wasn't dirty. He took advantage of the rules as they were written at the time. Keep your head up, and you won't get those hits a majority of the time. Did Stevens look for those hits? I would say yes. Dirty? No.

@steve-mn It was retribution for the slash the Penn player did on jimmy’s stick that prevented his shot a few moments earlier.
That was kinda my thought, maybe the team drank a little too much on Halloween Friday 😂. They just looked like they weren’t skating to their capability, decision making was a bit off, and were fumbling a ton of pucks.PSU played like Quinnipiac. They were hard on pucks but don't have shooters.

Glad they pulled out an ugly win and avoided a top 5 all time loss 😉. Souliere basically stole a win which is something we don’t get to see often.
The guy was definitely a dirty player who was trying to severely injure people.Scott Stevens was a stud but he was also a bit of a predator and maybe even dirty. He made a career out of blasting unaware players.

I have to give props to Brody Lamb. I thought he played huge during the 5 minute PK and his other PK shifts last night.

Nice to see Leo Gruba get an assist on the goal, his first of hopefully many points in college hockey. I think he and Whipple have played pretty well so far this season.

Is it automatic 1-Game suspension, now? I honestly can’t keep up with rule changes.
He was not. Most, if not all, those hits were legal at the time. The guy was definitely a dirty player who was trying to severely injure people.Scott Stevens was a stud but he was also a bit of a predator and maybe even dirty. He made a career out of blasting unaware players.

This same guy gouged a dude in the eye and got suspended for it, yes he was dirty even if some of those hits were technically legal in a league that’s always been ass backwards in terms of player safety. This argument is incredibly dumb.
Yes legal in a league that largely treats player safety as a joke. This is a dumb argument
He was within the rules. Dirty players don't play within the rules. Before Stevens' time, look at some of THOSE hits, that were deemed illegal, eventually. One could also make a parallel argument in the NFL (Deacon Jones, Jack Lambert, Dick Butkus, etc).

Disagree with your premise here. Looking to send someone to the locker room is dirty, whether it was allowed or not.
Paul Kariya might have an opinion here. The guy was definitely a dirty player who was trying to severely injure people.Scott Stevens was a stud but he was also a bit of a predator and maybe even dirty. He made a career out of blasting unaware players.

I caught most of Saturday's game and am not sure I remember a game with more "ham-handedness" by a Gophers team. So many fanned shots, mis-received passes, poor passes, pucks rolling off sticks. It was both very noticeable and simply weird to see from this squad.
Hopefully a one off that's just one of those nights...where they were lucky enough to prevail in the end.
