Been busier than normal this fall but I’ll be able to make Friday’s game! Excited for that but then again it’s Notre Dame so I might have to bring a pillow and a blanket for a 2-0 rock fight.

It's for the students, and I'm sure they will enjoy them. I know a certain GPLer would love one, so I suggest she bring some cash and give it to a student for them to get her one.

This series, especially at Mariucci, the past few years has felt a bit slow and sleepy. I think that’s partly due to the way Notre Dame plays. But they seem to be doing well so far so I hope the boys are ready after a tough rivalry series on the road. No let down series BS now or anything.
Sweep this one. To do so, gotta stay out of the box (9 of their 31 goals are on the PP vs 5 of the Gophers 37) and take advantage of our chances. That's how ND got their only decent win of the season over BU where BU took 5 penalties and was scored on twice and couldn't score on their own PPs. We're the more talented team, now just need to start pushing the right buttons. This past weekend felt like a step in that direction despite being on the road and missing Huglen. Be a great weekend for Pitlick, Nevers, and Huglen to get going.
Notre Dame was kind of my sleeper team in the Big 10 going into the year. They’re playing well as of late but it’s worth mentioning it’s been against Mercyhurst and the two worst teams in the Big 10, granted those teams are both top 20 teams.
Sweep if they play well, but I can see Bischel stealing a game potentially. The Gophers offense hasn’t exactly been jumping off the page so far as they get lines figured out. Sounds like Hugey will be back!
1. Do we think Huglen will be on the 4th line? If not, who gets moved down?
2. When is #19 going to take #13's spot on the 4th line? Feels inevitable at this point.
Sweep at home and lets get on a run before the Christmas Break

No chance Huglen plays on the 4th. I think likely Clark gets moved down which sounds silly based on the weekend he just had but I don’t see anyone else taking that spot.
I agree on 19 taking 13’s spot. As the board’s most outspoken Pino supporter I can finally say I don’t really see it with him. They’ve given him plenty of leash but he simply doesn’t produce when given the chance. I also love 19 on the fourth line. Him and Strobel play their role well.
Give Pitlick-Moore-Snuggerud at least one more weekend to see if they click. If they don't you have some hard decisions to make but Moore may need to move to a wing. And then move someone like Kurth or Brodzinski down to 4th line wing and Clark is 3C. Obviously Kurth most likely because Brodzinski never gets put down there for any serious amount of time.
I have to agree on Pino. You hate to see a player kind of get lost in the shuffle but, as I and others have said before, I’m just not seeing it. Is he better than last year? Absolutely. There were times last year where he was completely invisible or even worse, there were unfortunately a few moments where he was actually borderline a liability out there. Now, to be fair, apparently he was banged up going into last season and it really impacted him. This year he’s not much of a detriment. At least on the eye test. But I still don’t see him contributing a ton offensively. So then you could put him on the fourth line. But 19 and 27 see like such a better fit on the fourth line. I agree, give Pitlick, Moore, and Snuggy another chance but in my amateur opinion I like the following lines.
Moore-Lamb-Snuggerud
Nevers-Nelson-Brodzinski
Pitlick-Huglen-Kurth
Strobel-Clark-Mittlestadt
*obviously open to change.
He has shown significant improvement from last year but agree that with our forward depth and the way the others have been playing it is hard to justify him out there. There are some other players that a few have mentioned that also need to step out of the shadows as it were. Having tremendous potential eventually needs to translate to something tangible. There are also some things to clean up where some players I really enjoy watching keep shooting themselves in the foot either with dumb penalties or bantam league moves that leave your team in a bad spot at this level. Time to grow up kids.
Not sure why anyone is expecting a sweep. It's conference series and ND isn't a bad squad by any stretch. A split with BU (someone's 2nd favorite team) and a split with PSU to me doesn't equal a pushover. Also the Gophers are still trying to find their full stride on special teams.
The Gophers should be favored and a sweep is surely in play, but expected?
@slap-shot I agree with this. And there's nothing wrong with tempering expectations at this point of the season.
Last year, there seemed to be a lot of games where the Gophers couldn't put together a 60, 50 or even 40 minute game. But they were able to have an explosive 10 to 15 minutes and put the game out of reach. Given the talent we lost, we can't expect to be able to replicate that model this year, at least at this point.
I'm more interested in seeing smart, physical and focused hockey for the next few series before the break. It looks like we're heading in the right direction. But the jury's still out on the team's ability to put together two 60-minute games over a weekend.

I don't think any of the posts are "expecting" a sweep, but rather saying this is a good series to get the ball rolling and one a sweep is certainly possible as you allude to. have to start getting sweeps at home if they're going to put themselves in position to win the B10 again and be in contention for a 1 seed. There are zero pushovers in the B10 this year aside from maybe OSU, but they've gotta start making some hay at some point. Season is already 25% gone ?
Really depends on who it is. Better not be 81
Last week we were worried about Close before the Michigan game. Now this. My liver can't take much more of this...

It's not like Snuggerud has been having an unreal year. They can still sweep Notre Dame without any given forward.
If this team is upended because of ONE player, then it's not a team capable of winning a 'ship.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Do we need to start a go fund me to outfit this team in bubble wrap? ?
It’s a center, and they went to get imaging today. We should know concrete information tomorrow.
Imaging is never something you wanna hear. Means a potential fracture.

Unfortunately that is not necessarily true--it means potential fracture, sure, but could just as easily imply soft tissue injury (ligament, tendon, muscle), which would be potentially much more devastating for the year...
Hard to say on just going for imaging. Pretty much any knee, ankle, shoulder, etc. gets imaging for athletes these days. Hopefully we're in that "utmost sense of caution" phase and it's something like a minor sprain. Would be a major bummer to get hit again with a more serious injury bug.
Bob said on KFAN he hopes the injury sustained in practice yesterday is short-term. That is all the info he gave, no player detail.
Also said Rhett leads the team in scoring chances and that goals are going to come for him.

I will throw out some reckless speculation--
So, Vegs said it is a center. So, it could be 24, 7, 11, 23 or 19. 17 is moving to center, so it is not him. I have a bad feeling that it is either 24 or 7.
I also don't like when he said "hopes", which means he still doesn't know. On the bright side, 7 was supposed to miss a bunch of time earlier this year, and that turned out ok.

So when do we find out who’s hurt and how serious it is? Lineup card tomorrow?
It seems to me with injuries they no longer give specifics on how many weeks a certain player will likely be out.
If I recall correctly with the Nevers and Koster injuries earlier this year there wasn't specific information regarding how many weeks they will be out. I don't recall how it was phrased but I think it was done in such a way that we were able to figure it would be a few weeks so the amount of time they missed/when they came back didn't end up being surprising.
Once we know who the player is either via the line card tomorrow or it leaks out early I suspect coach will get asked how long that player will be out and we will see what answer we get. I don't say this as criticism of coach or anybody else.
Hopefully the answer will give us some information to be able to figure out if it is week(s) or month(s).
We are detectives we will figure it out. #GopherFansAreColumbo ?
Huglen is the one who got injured in practice
Really tough injury luck for him during his hockey career.
Hopefully it’s relatively short term. Next man up. Clark in the top 9 and Mittelstadt on the 4th.
I don't think it will take much more than 2-1 or 3-2 to win games this weekend.

Huglen cannot catch a break.
I find the cryptic nature behind announcing injuries to be quite annoying.

So with Huglen unfortunately out I’m guessing/hoping that we keep last weekend’s third line together. I know Motzko said he was going to be switching things up but last weekend’s lines just make sense. But who knows. There’s a reason Motzko’s the coach and I’m typing my opinions on my phone.
Hopefully we are getting all this short roster stuff done early this year. Huglen's gotta shake that albatross. I agree that the lines seemed to be pretty effective for the most part but I also liked the Pitlick, Nelson combo. Good contrast in styles/strengths. Clark has been really good so hopefully we don't skip a beat. Can't believe the season is 25% over and we haven't had a home sweep (that really counts) yet. This is the weekend to break that trend.

Same here. It doesn’t need to be a massive secret.
If you don’t have to give the injury information, then don’t do it. It’s very simple. Don’t let teams know they don’t have to prepare for someone. Don’t let team know what part of the body to Target on hits. You know they do. It can be frustrating as a fan, but not putting yourself in a competitive disadvantage, regardless of how small it is, is always a good strategy.

To be fair we’re 25% into the season and we’ve only had one opportunity to have a home sweep in the first place. Wisconsin has been the only home series so far.

I don't think anyone needs to know what part of the body was injured. As far as preparation goes I would bet NFL teams have more robust scouting and game-planning than an NCAA hockey program, and yet their injury reports are constantly being updated.
I don't want to oversell my thoughts on it - it's not a HUGE deal but I find it bizarre.

There are also WAY more people betting on NFL games versus NCAA hockey games. Injury reports are for Vegas mostly in the NFL.

I'm aware but that doesn't really negate my point - that it seems like a silly thing to not discuss during the week and doesn't really serve a purpose. I'll leave it at that. ?

Evidently, Huglen's injury wasn't serious.
