Just imagine how good this team would be if they could score on a breakaway or run a competent zone entry on the power play!
A couple of thoughts--
It has been a while since I've seen a Gophers team come out like that. Good to see.
Loved the fact that Chelsey stood up for his teammates a couple of times. Wish he could have avoided the 5.
Clark was also throwing his weight around with some heavy checks.
Airey played well. Bob has a tough choice for tonight. If he really wants Airey to be the man, he almost has to bring him back tonight. We all know Mich will come out on fire tonight, so does Bob go with the veteran instead?
People worried about the pairwise can rest easier as they have moved up to 4. It is so volatile this time of year and just keep winning and they will be fine.
The place would have exploded if Michel would have scored on that semi breakaway.
Getting a bit concerned about all of the injuries that are piling up. If Huglen doesn't play, Begley will slot in on the 4th line. I'm guessing Bob will use him very sparingly and rotate another forward on that line. Michel, BTW, has held his own so far this year.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
For all I know in real life he might be the nicest guy in the world, but good Lord Naurato looks so much like such a prick that I love seeing his face on screen after a Gophers goal.
He definitely has a punchable face!
Camera liked him almost felt like I was watching a chiefs game minus Taylor swift😂
Luke Mittelstadt doing his classic Luke Mittelstadt thing and quietly putting up points. He’s on pace for his 3rd 20 point season in 3 years.
Who was the last Gopher defenseman to put up at least 20 points in all 4 of his seasons? Leopold?
Michigan teams outscored 10-0 last night. 😆
Tonight will be different.

We had ten players score, several with multiple points, and a goalie who pitched a shutout. But there is an argument that Jimmy Clark was the best player on the ice despite not scoring a point. He was everywhere and just skating amazingly fast.
I hope we can keep it up.
I like watching Hendrickson play...I dont know what his talent level is or what expectations are but I like the way he plays the game when he is out there.

Clark was a definitely a beaut last night and obviously Wood was a Mississippi leg hound
The hit on Huglen for those who missed it.
Watched estapa play dirty for years --- will never believe any thing he does is incidental

When Michigan started trying to run guys I was just hoping Snuggerud wouldn’t pick up a retaliatory 5 and potential suspension for next weekend. Chesley would have been my second guess, but that was a pretty soft 5.
Is Chesley out tonight due to that major penalty? I didn't think that was the case but just read Ruesse's game writeup in the Star Trib and he mentioned that Chesley will miss tonight due to the major. Am I nuts or is that wrong?
And, it's hard to tell from that angle, but, it did seem like he might have leaned his should into the hit. Almost anyone else, I agree, I'd say it was just an accident, but, with Estapa... not so sure. The hit on Huglen for those who missed it.

I won't complain about the call on review by the refs, with what they had, it would be hard to truly justify a Major.
I'll need to pull up B1G+ before the game today to look at the Chesley hit, and why what I heard described as punches weren't called on review (Edit: That was earlier, when Chesley just got a cross-check).
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
My brother spoke to Bob last week about the “new” rubber band (or what ever they call it) way of entering the zone on a power play. Bob said it works fine. We are still not convinced. Alaska gave up the puck to Lamb last week & we had trouble last night getting into the zone. Any thoughts on this?Just imagine how good this team would be if they could score on a breakaway or run a competent zone entry on the power play!
IMHO, Chesley shouldn’t have received the game misconduct. Maybe just the 5 min major would have been sufficient. Wasn’t as egregious as other hits that I’ve seen. Looked to me that Estapa tried to make sure that he contacted Huglen with his shoulder, but wasn’t overtly malicious. But Estapa is a bum, none the less.
It's Ruesse. He's never understood hockey.
Watching on replay, it kind of looks to me like Estapa leaned into the hit on Huglen. Certainly no problem on the original hit, but Estapa sure seemed to try to make sure he made contact. (Still, I can understand the non-call, if it wasn't Estapa, I would be thinking "Accident")
Chesley most definitely cross-checked Estapa, so no complaint on that, but Estapa threw a punch to the facemask. May not have had a ton behind it, but... he threw a punch, and the stripes didn't even bother to take a look.
Not sure about the 5 on Chesley. He was going for the hip check, the other guy ducks away, but Chesley's arm is out. 2 minutes? No quesiton. 5 without the Game Misconduct? OK, I can see that. 5 AND the GM is too much, given how they've been calling things this year. He was going in to a check and the other guy dodged, but ran into his arm, certainly not trying to hit him with the arm at all.
At the end of the 2nd, Koster gets a full on stick to the groin+takedown, and no call at all? Come on, bozos, do your job.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Just watched Michigan coach leave Starbucks in dinkytown….no idea if his order is right…looked grumpy though

Consider the source. You can fit everything Reusse knows about hockey into a thimble and still have room left. So, no, Chesley is NOT suspended for tonight's game. Hell, that was a pretty weak GM call.
Tact is the ability to step on a man's toes without messing up the shine on his shoes - Harry S Truman
No Huglen and Souliere in net
Anyone know if hage Is in for Mich?
I wouldn’t have advertised that - the autograph hounds will be running around checking them all now. 😂

In related news it has been reported that a woman wearing a cowgirl hat is taking all the towels. 😲 😉
Is Huglen's injury a concussion?
Wonder if the staff considered putting someone like L Mittlestadt at forward instead of Begley?
I hope the boys are prepared to see a completely different Michigan squad tonight. You see it all the time in college hockey, team blows out their opponent night one, then the 2nd game is super tight. This is Michigan, they’re no pushovers.
Massive game tonight. These two would go a long way in the pairwise in March.
This 4th line doesn’t need to see a regular shift.
Gophers with way too many long passes and backhanded. Zero puck support.
Moore gets hit from behind into the boards no call.
Michel gets elbowed in the head only a 2 minute penalty.
Lamb got cross checked to the head/neck three times.
Gophers have a 5x3 with a major 😧
Duke gets a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for punching Moore.
But they still didn't call the cross checking to Lamb's face
Guess we can punch players in the head now. Nice one
Can't believe we had to challenge for that. But at least they got it
SAMMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
His 8th goal of the season.
Gophers hold the zone for an hour and Rinzel scores!
Duke gets a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for punching Moore.
But they still didn't call the cross checking to Lamb's face
Yeah that was ridiculous!
BANG BANG BANG LETS GO
Ya know I usually hate forwards at the point on the PP but Wood is quite good back there
With Lamb in the penalty box Gruba took his spot playing near the net on the power play.
I think the announcer said it best,
"Lamb got 2 minutes for healing!".
I get if he fought back taking them both but he legit got 2 for Receiving.
Rinzel on the point with Snuggy and Wood on each wing creates a lot of shooting opportunities with the other two guys crashing the net for rebounds. Lamb is really good at that. He leads the team with 6 power play goals.
Duke gets a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for punching Moore.
But they still didn't call the cross checking to Lamb's face
which one of the four did you want them to call? They had their choice. Absolutely awful as the crew has been all weekend to this point
Michigan is a cheap cheap cheap hockey team. Very unimpressive. That is on you Narauto. Fix your hockey team.
And they aren't even cheap for a purpose. They attacked Lamb for going after a live puck with no whistle. Like I said...UND like.
