@magic

Then I would question their motivation.  If they are money players we probably cannot compete.  People earlier talked about heart?  Show some.  It is like other professions.  If you chase the money fine, but you may never get the dream.  I know a lot of MN hockey players past and semi present that would give their left arm ( insert whatever here) to play for the U.  We HAVE that in the state, and yes we are competing with other D1 teams but for so many, the dream is maroon and gold.  Use that and then look at what we cannot get here and charm the others to come here.  That is your job.  If NIL is the motivation I am so scared for the future of college hockey.  And every other college sport.  What have we done.

I see absolutely no reason for doom and gloom seeing as it’s the second day of the offseason, with a whole offseason of roster building up ahead. Some big holes to fill but until Bob puts a bad or even mediocre team on the ice I have no reason for panic.

Recruit the hell out of Luke Misa, 5th rounder of Calgary. He’ll want to go to a place to develop into an NHL hockey player. Whoever gets one brother gets both.

I have no doubt this coaching staff will figure it out.  Even with all that is going on in college hockey, a lot of high end kids still want to wear the 〽️.  The cost sharing, B1G money, increased scholarships, and support with NIL will only further the MN hockey program.  Not to mention the involvement of the alumni and former NHLers in the program.

This is always a depressing time of year and I always find myself wanting to measure the teams success from the end of the year.  It takes a few days to remember the program as a whole is in a way better spot because of the buy in and culture that has been and continues to be renewed.

I trust Bob whole heartedly to navigate the portal, CHL, recruiting, and any other process to secure the best high end and working man talent for this team.  Every year will be a crap shoot and we will win some and lose some.

I am excited to see what he will put together for next year and I will be there to cheer them on every home game in my normal STH seat.

Good luck to all the boys that are moving on, I have enjoyed equally cheering them on and pulling my hair out for lots of years.

I would much rather have the players who are leaving sign ASAP rather than wait a month or so. It gives the coaches a much better advantage to replace them.

Have to think they’re pulling the trigger now because the portal opens up tomorrow.

On the contrary, the players are signing quickly to get into the lineup for obligatory NHL games their teams will throw them into yet this NHL Regular Season.

there’s still ten games left for many teams. getting the 5 games in won’t be a problem depending on deal they sign

Ravensbergen was pulled in the first playoff game last night, so there's that.

Having watched a fair bit of the WHL this season, I hope that Kenta Isogai is on the radar.  A skilled (small) forward but played in the USHL with Youngstown so would be known to the coaches.

sen to not recruit them and its a wildly different ball game now. Maybe Bob (or whoever is the next coach) will choose to continue to not do so, but its this same line of thinking that we should get to sign every MN Mr Hockey because we're the U. The landscape is massively different. We absolutely need to do better in the rest of this cycle and the coming cycles in recruiting or yes we will progress back into the darker years we had in the 2010s. There is zero reason we can't/won't recruit better out of Canada.

Some of this is also location/logistics. Hage is from Mississauga (right by Toronto) as are Moldenhauer and Power, Fantillis both from right outside Toronto, Hughes is from Hamilton (right outside Toronto). Johnson is from out in BC. Detroit (and as a result Michigan) is a huge hub city for Canadian hockey and select teams from Toronto. It's going to lead to easy recruiting and connection to that area. Michigan has a built in advantage in this regard that is going tested with more teams now having better access to those players and pathways to get those players because of the rule changes.

I am not sure exactly what you are arguing.  But, again, to remain a competitive power going forward the University of Minnesota hockey team MUST get the top level talent from Minnesota.  MUST.   When Mickey Berchild Logan Lutner and all of the other top end Minnesota recruits went elsewhere, that is a very serious problem.

If we are getting the 2nd tier MN talent we are not in a position to compete for most of the recruits outside of MN at the top level, especially Canadians.   They are going to go to Michigan or to the northeastern schools.

And things can change recruiting wise, but I don't think it is going to happen with Coach Motzko.

Posted this on the Umass thread but I do t think it will get many(any) eyes.

I am out of town with family and haven’t been able to track things.  At this point it doesn’t really matter but, did they actually replace the officiating crew for the regional final?

It was 3 guys from Roseau and a guy from EGF. I don't know if they work for NCHC

Yes. Johnson and Lukkason are both NCHC referees. Voll is an NCHC linesman. Not sure the affiliation with the other linesman, Landman (although he used to do AHL and ECHL games).

Did the NCAA say why the crew was replaced?

I haven't seen a statement from the NCAA regarding this.

And you won't.  No way the NCAA publicly states they had to replace a ref crew because they blew multiple calls that led directly to goals.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Wow! If there isn’t a statement from the NCAA, I feel like this move for me is statement enough.  You wouldn’t make that move without cause.  Just the optics of how the officiating had been in that regional didn’t feel right for almost everyone who watched it.

That would be an interesting one.  Was a huge prospect...school issues...obviously a super talented kid.

The Future of Pride on ice twitter feed mentioned Adam Eisele of MSU purple and Tristan Sarsland.

Portal is gonna blow up today.

There's a lot of focus on who Minnesota will go after in the portal, but I'm wondering if they'll lose anyone. Broz was a big surprise a few years ago. Any more surprises? Maybe Airey has been told he's not the feature goaltender for next year. Maybe there's a player like Broz who's discontent or merely looking at another team that has a better chance for a run.

The team will need a skilled defenseman and a lot of scoring help on day one. If they rely on young players to develop with the hopes of being ready after Christmas, it will be a long season.

I look for Hendrickson to come into his own next season, and I think fans know what what they have in Lamb. He's good but not elite. I was frankly a little disappointed in Ziemer down the stretch. He flatlined and the coach had Hendrickson playing up with Jimmy and Moore for a lot of shifts.

Right shot Dman is one of the biggest holes I expect them to address in the portal. Goalie/center as well but I think there’s high odds those two positions come from CHL.

St Cloud’s Colin Ralph and Warren Clark in the portal. Both drafted defensemen. I’d expect Ralph to get a serious look but he’s a left shot.

They absolutely need a top line center, a goalie, and a scoring defenseman. This is assuming they don’t have any other unexpected departures.

Bob better be aggressive.

Heard a rumor last week about Ralph and a UMD forward to UND.  Before the Dane Jackson announcement even.  Will see if the UMD forward hits the portal or not.

Once again, rumors, so will see if it comes to fruition.  It is the off-season so might as well chatter....

Would getting Adam Eisele be considered satisfactory for a 1C if the Gophers were to get him?

Don't know much about him but on the surface he would not profile as a top line center; more a complementary scorer in the middle six. If he can win draws, however, could be a solid add.

So Eisele wasn’t on the radar to transfer especially since he only has one year of eligibility left.  Speculation is that he is graduating this spring and is looking to go to a “bigger” program to finish his college eligibility.  I hope to learn more as the week progresses.  He played with Rhett and Josh Groll most of the season so he played a lot of important minutes.

He won’t be the last player from MSU to enter the portal, I would expect another 2-3 players.  One of them possibly a goalie which could peak Bob’s interest.  I don’t see Eisele getting any attention to be a top six forward outside of the CCHA so I’m not sure what his move is.  NIL isn’t a factor since he was barely involved with the MSU collective.

Face off percentages…if Moore does leave.  I don’t see how that number could get worse.  He loses a lot of draws from what I’ve noticed. Guessing we could get an incoming player to have better numbers.  Not saying Moore is a bad player and we wouldn’t miss him but from a face off standpoint we wouldn’t be losing much in my opinion.

Players leaving - for some reason my gut says Lamb could go.  I hope he’s back as he’s going to be a key player as far as returners.

Wood - I’m guessing Nashville is scratching their heads.  He’s big but doesn’t play like it.

sorry to be negative but needed to vent after the last couple of showings by my favorite team 🙁

It took a while to find it, but I finally did...

For the season, Moore went 355 and 319 on faceoffs, for a 52.7 winning percentage. Unless they can bring someone in via the transfer portal (Adam Eisele, anyone???), I don't see their faceoff percentages going up.

Per NC$$ stats, he won 54.8% in the faceoff dot.

Likely tied to the possibility of losing Livanavage. Doesn't sound like he's leaving due to Jackson being hired as HC.

Adding Eisele and Ludtke would surely alleviate our center position. Both would be solid additions. Doubt the staff would be in on Hoskins. Guy will probably stay out east.

It's fine to speculate who going where and which guys we need to get, but we've only seen 1/3 maybe 1/4 of whos going to enter the portal. There's still a lot of unknowns. Also everyone (except Ludtke) so far  that has enter can be contacted by everyone. Last year when majority of the bigger names went in they had do not contact meaning they had it down to a spot or 2. Also that was a little while after it opened.

One thing that isn't mentioned much, and frankly I mostly forgot about it until watching the WMich and Mankato game, is the transfer of Rhett Pitlick.  Rhett was (tied) our leading scorer in 23-24 and losing him was a bigger issue than is discussed.  For one thing, your first line is Snuggerud-Moore-Pitlick and that has speed and scoring.  The second, it pushes Ziemer down to the 3rd line where he could develop more as a freshman.  I think Brodie's early season play may have disguised this a bit but if you have a 40 point scorer on the first line (S-M-P) instead of a 23 point scorer this team would not have had the offensive issues they had during certain stretches of the season.

I think Brodie's early season play may have disguised this a bit but if you have a 40 point scorer on the first line (S-M-P) instead of a 23 point scorer this team would not have had the offensive issues they had during certain stretches of the season.

not to mention he was an excellent penalty killer for us.

Posted this in game thread, but want to mention in here because I think it’s important:

Goaltending has been an Achilles heel for this team in the recent past, and needs to be fixed this offseason.

I lost zero sleep over the loss of Pitlick.  I'm sure he would have been a help on the ice, but either you are all in or not. He chose to see if he could get a deal after the Aug 15th deadline and by the time he couldn't find one, Bob and the team had moved on. His advisor should have had an idea on what was available for him and could have avoided the whole situation.

Close was a stud coming off of a Richter LaFontaine season I just don’t see it the same way at all.

Souliere was solid but was lacking “it”. Goalie is one of the biggest holes going into next season though and will definitely need to be addressed.
