Went to the world juniors thing today. Mooney stood out. He’s such a threat on the PP it’s ridiculous. Not exactly breaking news around here but we got ourselves a gem in LJ.

But he is not from Canada... 😉
I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey
No one objects to the fact the university needs to increase revenues, but placing this specific increase on the backs of students who already arguably over-charged is ridiculous. And it doesn't matter that no one supposedly "bats an eye" at other exorbitant fees - both can be wrong at the same time.
On the backs of students? Come on the rhetoric around this is beyond ridiculous.
I would be willing to bet that 99.9% of the students have zero idea what fees they are paying. I would bet the majority of their parents don't either. There are much worse fees on the bill and this is a drop in the bucket to the real things being put "on the backs of the students" and outside of the yearly article in the Daily no one even bats an eye at them.
As I said elsewhere...if the U wasn't forced to disclose this publicly not one person would have noticed because when you have a 38K+ yearly bill this barely counts as a rounding error. Hell lets go back to before tuition got nuts. When I was at the U it was like 6-8k a semester. (or worse QUARTER!) Even then its a .0125% increase per semester and hardly noticeable unless you specifically look for it. (even when I looked at my bills I couldnt have told you what the fees were nor did I really care like most students) Now run the numbers for tuition now...
People are acting like students have to go to the ATM and take out $200 bucks and walk to the registrar and pay it out of pocket after they already paid their bill. No, it is just another line item on a long, way overpriced bill that most people never even look at. I mean if your bill in September goes from $13,100 (right around the cheapest in state no housing tuition before books and such) to $13,200 ($100 per semester) you telling me you are going to be outraged if no one told you it happened? (hell come October none of them will even remember) Yeah right. This is just people looking for reasons to be upset. Hell $200 bucks wouldn't cover the cost of a semesters used books.
I get what you are saying, but this is like saying because my water bill went up $3 a year (roughly the same percentage) that the City of Crystal is putting their projects on my back.
TO BE CLEAR:
The price to go to the University is stupid and I think adding more to it is moronic but an athletic fee doesn't even rank when compared to how dumb housing costs are, books, tuition, food, tickets and probably half the fees being charged are. The U is hardly the worst when it comes to this but they are making it harder and harder for in state people (not to mention out of state) to justify going there. I mean a basic college education should not put you six figures in debt and that is what the U will do if you dont live with your parents for 4 years. That is beyond stupid.
And college sports in general is just ridiculous and looking to kill itself with the money being thrown around and the rules in place. The fans are expected to buy tickets (with licenses) and merch, donate to NIL collectives, give to scholarship funds and so on. This makes the sport professional which means you have fans wanting the Athletic Department to contract so that more resources can be funneled to the Rev Sports...which basically screws hundreds of student athletes out of scholarships and opportunities. I would personally rather a fee go to that to keep them alive than adding to the facilities fee but that is not where we are anymore. And we as hockey fans are going to see how bad this gets, because the sport is too expensive and only a handful of teams can afford to keep it on the books.
I don't think anyone is in disagreement that the U costs too much. The point was made that costs are too high and this is just another addition, granted, not large percentage-wise. You list costs for housing, food, books, tuition as all going up. Those are essential things for every student. What I think is upsetting to a lot of people is that this is a fee for something to benefit a group of students (athletes) that in many cases are already receiving privileges that the rest of the student body don't. And many of the students being asked to pay this fee are not even attending any sporting events. It's not that $200 is exorbitant. Would it be ok to charge a $200 fee of all undergrads to supplement the Law School program, because it is a tiny percentage of what they already pay? (Now if the $200 per student went specifically to buying blue-ribbon hockey recruits only, I'd be all for that. Make it $300!)
Roster seems pretty settled at this point, probably looking at something like this?
Brodie Ziemer-Jimmy Clark-Brody Lamb
Tanner Ludtke-Erik Pahlsson-LJ Mooney
Teddy Townsend-Beckett Hendrickson-Mason Moe
Javon Moore-John Mittelstadt-Tate Pritchard
Ex. August Falloon, Graham Harris
Cal Thomas-Leo Gruba
Jacob Rombach-Luke Mittelstadt
John Whipple-Finn McLaughlin
Ex. Axel Begley, Max Rud
Nathan Airey/Luca Di Pasquo

Man, every time I see someone post potential new lineups I keep getting reminded of how much turnover we had. All good though! It’ll be exciting to watch the new guys and how blend with the guys who stuck around. I’ve said it before but, with all due respect to the guys that left, maybe a bit of a fresh start isn’t the worst thing for this team to go through. Also, and I have no idea how this affected the team last year, but hopefully we don’t have another six letters on sweaters this year. Three, four absolute max, is really all you need.
I may get flamed for saying this but I wouldn't mind seeing some growing pains at the beginning of the season and then seeing improvement as the season goes along. Peak later in the season and hopefully keep the injury bug at bay.

As much as growing pains can sometimes be difficult to watch in the moment, I’d rather have that than what we had last season. Started off like gangbusters and then just fizzled out at the end of the year was just so frustrating to watch.

I think you’re more likely to see Ludtke at center than Hendrickson. He played there exclusively in the USHL and in high school. Moved to the wing because Omaha had 25 year old veteran centers that won draws on command and they weren’t gonna play him bottom 6.
Also Moe is an option at center too, if they think he can handle it as a frosh.
Besides Broz and Pitlick (which was a weird situation) have we had any other high end players transfer?
Older Lucius bro kinda, when he left for the CHL after being injured/scratched/whatever for that entire 2021-22 Frozen Four run.
Our other notable transfer-outs have mostly been guys who didn't (or couldn't) reach their fullest potential at the U, whether that was due to roster depth ahead of them, injury problems, or mental stuff idk. Most did get plenty of chances, top-4/6 ice time and long leashes when they were Gophers, but never consistently clicked; or they got pushed out as the program clawed back to relevance. Burke showed flashes on the BMW line, and the McManus-Nelson-Ranta line played great during that goofy Covid season.
In this category: Cruikshank, McManus (grad), Burke, Stucker, Wait, Sorenson, Brinkman (grad), Jared Moe, Staudacher. Pre-NIL/portal era this was guys like Clayton Phillips and Mike Szmatula.

(1) I don't really care if it's "fair" or not in the eyes of the mass of students whose entire 2-4 years are spent going to class, then home, who never go out and never attend sporting events. They don't really care to be members of the U community anyways, their college experience would be the exact same at Mankato or UST or UMD. If this $200 athletics fee is such a dealbreaker, why let the door hit them on the way out?
(2) I'm an attorney now, went to a different B1G for law school. It's well-known that grossly inflated tuition charged by grad/professional programs gets used to fund broader university operations that we (my law classmates and I) likely never use. It's a university, not a bunch of totally separate and atomized majors and programs. If everyone only ever paid for stuff they directly use or find valuable, it'd be (a) much more inefficient; and (b) destroy the concept of a university, as opposed to say, community colleges that do let you pick and choose a la carte in all aspects.

The email noted there will be Yeti Packages available to the public starting Aug. 21 that will include a ticket. $55. ($40 for us to just buy the mug.😳)

Yeti gear is really expensive, yes. It is likely the best of the bunch in that style of insulated mug, but I'm not personally sold on it being worth the cost.

Have you heard of Yeti before? A buddy won a 5 gallon Yeti bucket. Looked up the cost for a cover, $30! They have cooler icepacks in a local store for $30 that Walmart has similar ones (but don't say Yeti) for something like $5.50. Cast iron skillet -> $200. It just amazes me how much it costs to write those 4 letters on products.
Although to be more realistic, I’m more a sucker for this logo and overpay for stuff because of it, not the Yeti part. 😂

My wife is still bitter about the Love Your Melon hat promotion. She really wanted one of those.
The whole "we have these special promos that only single-game ticket holders can get because we sell them in conjunction with a ticket and don't get enough for the Season Ticket holders too" thing is definitely proper cause to be bitter.
Was looking at the projected roster and there are only five right-handed shooters on the whole team. Pritchard, Lamb, Mooney, and Ziemer up front, Gruba in the back. I guess Di Pasquo, a right-catching goalie, counts as a sixth.

I’ll be fascinated to see if they try Mooney at center or just have all those forwards as RWs

Bob should’ve ran with Lamb at center more often in the last few years. A 1-2 punch of Ludtke and then Lamb with some more experience at center would be fine.
I hope this means the B1G is getting close to releasing its schedule.

Wow the Big Ten is taking mid week games to the extreme with that schedule. 😯 I have major concerns about if we have enough depth if forced to play 5 games in one day. 😉 🤣

Imagine how bad the ice will be in the 3rd period of game 5 that day. And lord help us if there's OT in the early games. Game 1 puck drop will be what? 6AM or something?

It’s much worse than you think. ALL 12 big ten home games are scheduled for October 1st. Times TBA but they play each team twice in a row before moving on to the next.
I imagine they will play some at Ridder and split into two teams or something like that.
I hope you also read the fine print: You can’t leave the arena between games (or you have to buy a new ticket for all 12 games to get back in) and concessions won’t start until 10 AM and will only be served until they run out of food.
If you have a parking pass, you do still however have to exit and re-enter the parking lot for each game to avoid additional charges (but can’t arrive more than 30 before each game) and be out before midnight or they will tow you.
If you are a season ticket holder and bring your Yeti though, you are allowed one free alcoholic beverage per game. *Again until supplies run out.
They haven’t designated which game is which, but be sure to bring multiple colors of apparel as there will be a white out, maroon out, gold out, a stripe out, and one game where you can only wear taconite colored clothing. Rumor has it they are giving away free tacos during that game if we score at least five goals. Two of the games have giveaways for the students - one is a maroon Jason style goalie mask, and the other is a white t-shirt that says I ❤️ Minne$ota. These items will be thrown from the upper levels, and it is first come first serve as there are only 500 of each.

Oh but here’s the catch - I just got a follow up email stating that the U conveniently forgot the Yetis won’t be distributed until Oct. 3, AFTER the conclusion of the big ten home games. So they did get out of providing free alcohol. They are giving everyone a voucher for a free hot dog though to make up for their error. It can only be redeemed at the stand behind section 17 during the second period of the second Michigan state game. *Subject to product availability.

Given the mid-week date, I suspect there will be construction ongoing, too.
I thought we were only posting preposterous statements?

I almost forgot. Tickets to the big ten home series extravaganza on Oct. 1 will be on sale to the general public on September 30th at 10AM. They are going alphabetically by last name each hour (A at 10 AM, B at 11AM) etc; but don’t forget the ticket office closes at 4:30pm CST).
Cost of the ticket is $15 a seat, but includes a one-time $1,000 donation (per seat), a $25 per ticket fee, $8.00 per ticket NIL fee, and a $38.95 order processing fee.
This event will be available for viewing by streaming only ($199 for one game of each series or $500 for both); too many other important events on the big ten network channel that day to show any on TV (the beer pong championships are that day I’m told). There is a drawing out of a hat to see which team’s student announcers will get to call all the games, sponsored by Red Bull.

Just finished the podcast, good job as always! Vegs is definitely more optimistic than many on here, myself included.
One thing is obvious, the coaching staff has made a deliberate effort to get bigger and more experienced. Whether that manifests itself this year or next remains to be seen but the blueprint is clear.
Is there a possibility that we still add another forward? I believe we are at 25 total and 14 forwards. I know we had 14 forwards last year so I’m wondering if that’s Bob’s preference.
Still dreaming over a one and done late add like Misa.

Yes
Do not like how this board is run? Get your own board! ♃
With the forward pipeline very full, I have to imagine it’s a current recruit, a transfer with 1-2 years left or high end 1 and done (still dreaming). I’d be surprised if they added anyone with 4 years of eligibility.
current recruit that would make the most sense to me is Jackson Nevers. He plays the type of game that would fit with competing on the 3rd/4th line and obviously bleeds maroon and gold. Seems he could accept that role better than anyone else in the pipeline.
I’ve been seeing the new CCM gloves pop up here and there on social media and they look pretty sweet. Ludtke at da beauty league, Rombach at his draft party, McLaughlin at his on ice trainer and Gruba in a photo shoot are places for people to find them on instagram if they want to.
