A little concerning to be ranked 7th in the paiwise at 12-2, just shows how bad our two losses were and our weak SOS. Gonna need wisconsin, omaha, penn state, and notre dame to start winning some damn games...
Don't bother with PWR until late Jan or early Feb.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
@the-rube I agree with you to an extent but unfortunately results don't have designations for what month they are achieved in...
@gophers_ingf the PWR is incredibly inaccurate and highly volatile right now is what he’s saying. The Big Ten RPI numbers will go up even with losses in conference as Michigan, Mich st, and MN play each other. Teams such as Dartmouth will go down as they play in the ECAC even if they win. That’s why your PWR is irrelevant until about January and it’s more about your W/L
There's a reason that when USCHO was the only website that posted PWR, they waited until after the mid-season tournaments were done to post anything. It needs to be that long before the numbers settle down as most of the teams finish with their non-conference schedule.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

I never said it wasn't volatile, my point still stands bemedji and omaha are looking like bad pairwise losses currently. BC has three losses and is #1. Those same two losses will count the same at the end of the year as they do now. No, I don't think we will not make the tournament because of pairwise lol but seeding is important

With how PWR works, there’s literally no way to know this.
The 2023 team that finished #1 in PWR lost to a bad UND team, an ASU team that finished like 45th or something, and a beyond terrible Wisconsin team. They were fine. Winning cures all.
Let's at least hold off any worries until 3 weeks from now after the Gophers have played Michigan and Michigan State.

There is a lot wrong in this post not the least of which is your understanding of how the PWR works.
The PWR does not matter right now and there is no way to know how those losses will look when it finally does matter. The PWR is a snapshot nothing more and right now that snapshot is beyond worthless.

He's not wrong though that those 2 losses will end up being bad losses. However it's only 2 games and every team will have them by season's end.
I hope Ollie Moore and Sam Rinzel are noticing all the Michigan guys who left early. Casey, Nazar, McGroarty, Duke and Brindley all in the AHL. Not to mention Levshunov who hasn’t played a minute in the big leagues yet.
I feel like Faber and Snuggerud have created a culture of staying til you’re ready and I hope 11 and 2 follow suit.

They probably will but we don't know that yet. For all we know one of those teams could go on a run and become respectable. Not likely mind you, but also not impossible.
The NCAA selection formula is only really meant to be looked at when all games have been played. The farther away we are from that the more volatile and unreliable it is going to be. Those games have disproportionately stronger value now than they will at the end. He is trying to argue that 2/14 = 2/30+ which is just ludicrous. It is a bad fundamental understanding of how proportion works and how the actual formula works. By the end those games won't weigh the average down as much as they do now.
(I am not arguing with you, your point is also correct)

I don't see any issue with B1G's non-conference performance overall. Last year was a strong year and this year looks just as good if not better so far (Winning record against HEA, .500 with NCHC, dominating the other conferences) . On Track to get 4 bids to the NCAA again.

With Penn State's sweep of Colgate this week (wins on Tuesday and Wednesday) and Notre Dame beating Harvard this afternoon (they play BU tomorrow in the Championship game of the Friendship Four in Belfast, Northern Ireland) the Gophers are now #4 in Pairwise.
The Big Ten currently has 3 of the top 4 (Michigan State #2, Michigan #3, Gophers #4).
Your concern might have been a little premature. 😉
The Big Ten is now 35-11-2 in non conference games which is on pace to be the best non conference record ever by any conference in Pairwise (20 years).
The Big Ten is the only conference ever to be .700 or better and this will be the 3rd straight such season for the Big Ten.
@collegehockeyaddict why’d ya have to bring this up?! OSU down to Princeton, Michigan getting drubbed by WMU
Michigan State & Notre Dame both won today and Wisconsin is up 6-1 after two periods.
The Big Ten isn't going to win every non conference game.
Injury watch post Michigan series (my speculation):
-Pahlsson, shoulder? - back 1/3
-Nevers, no clue - hopefully back next weekend
-Huglen, head- back 1/3
-Falloon, knee- hopefully next weekend but who knows
-Thomas, not sure but he wasn’t on the ice much the last period
Next week may not be the week to judge things. They are going to have a ton of guys out.
Hoping we see some “questionable” guys like Huglen and Falloon make a return next weekend. If not, forward lines could get pretty ugly.
Ziemer-Moore-Snuggerud
Hendrickson-Clark-Kurth
J Mittelstadt-Lamb-Michel(on the 3rd line😬)
No 4th line
@boninthebear Thomas is a lower leg/ankle or knee but I’d guess high ankle based on how it looked. Would be kind of surprised if he’s ok for this coming weekend but he is a gamer
Gophers have moved up to 2nd in the pairwise. Long ways to go, but great to see.
Any chance Wood travels back after the Team Canada tryout, last game is Friday at noon? Potentially able to suit up Saturday.
Bucci has us rated #1 in his "poll."

@maroon_and_gold not sure how the roster limits work but with all the injuries and world juniors do we see 1 or 2 forward additions mid year?
Seeing as almost everyone will be back by the second half I doubt it
any updated news on the injured players?
Aloha!

It appears that Matthew Wood has not made Canada's World Juniors roster:

So, maybe he'll be back in the lineup tomorrow?
If not Friday you'd think Saturday would be probable.
I just hope Wood wasn’t cut because he got injured and wouldn’t be 100%.
My tinfoil hat conspiracy is that they cut him because he is playing in the NCAA. They’re sending a message if you want to leave Canada juniors, you won’t play on our world juniors team
If that is the reason they could be cutting their nose off to spite their face.
The US and other countries have been having success at the World Juniors so cutting players to send messages could definitely come back to bite them.
Oh it’s a bad conspiracy, but a conspiracy nonetheless hahah
Well it is interesting that he played in the tournament last year as an 18 year old and gets cut as a 19 year old.
Last year in the tournament he played in the 5 Canadian games scoring 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists) and was a +3 so I will be curious if anything comes out about why he was cut.
Wally just said that Wood was the only college hockey player that Canada invited to their World Junior camp and that Canadians don't like the NCAA. Hmmmmmm 🤔

Not sure there is much to this. He made the team last year (while at UConn) and they have had NCAA talent plenty in the past. Feels like he just was not a fit as they saw it.
