It doesn't matter where his arms "ended up" it's where the contact occurred - although neither of which resulted in contact to the head.
IF you were on the ice in a ref uniform you might call it different but I see head contact.
sorry for the double upload.
It has been a couple of year since I have witnessed a complete clunker. The Gophers lost every aspect of the game. The Gophers seemed slow, and unorganized tonight. No rhythm. tBob has said he has 3 kicks at the can a year, and he may use one of those after tonight. Lots of film to watch before tomorrows game, and expect that they will be much better. ( they can't be much worse)
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
BTW, I saw Fish go down the tunnel when they were reviewing that play. Hope he isn't hurt now.

It was so ridiculous that I was sitting here laughing at Clymer and co for reviewing the wrong hit. They called a major penalty for contact to the head when there was zero contact to the headEverytime I think that I've seen the worst referees possible, NCAA hockey sends a bigger moron
what was your problem there, they called it correctly
Sorry you are correct that was bullshit. I was so sure they would call the major on Fish that I went to the bathroom when they looked at it, missed the announcement.
The fact than an official could look at that hit for 5 minutes and still think it should be a major penalty, is a scary level of incompetence.
that's the damn problem. If you have to look at something for five minutes, it's not a damn major. A major is not a penalty of nuance. It's a major because it's flagrant and/or malicious. If you have to break out a protractor, compass, and drawing board and do an accident reconstruction, it's a minor.
@j22 I see his arm coming low to high making contact with his head which snaps back after the contact. The sternum isn't moving until the head begins to move back after taking the hit.
If the shoulder would have taken the hit his head would have continued moving forward.
And that's my < $.02 analysis. Feel free to flame, disagree, and berate it but that's my opinion.
I can understand the hit to the head call. That was darn close.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Can't win them all. Just as long as they win it all in St. Paul, I'm good!
@bigbeer it’s like starting your golf round with a birdie, might as well call it a day.
On top of the rough D the whole game, not a lot of luck luck for the gophers. The bounces all seemed to go to the red team.
The reason the review took forever was the screen they were looking at wasn't working. I sit in the corner and could see a blue screen for most of the time. I actually don't know if they even got a look at it because it turned black and I didn't see much white (ice) or other color. If they can't see the replay, is there a third official in the arena who helps with the call?
That was a rough game. Hopefully they can come out tomorrow better than that.
BTW, I saw Fish go down the tunnel when they were reviewing that play. Hope he isn't hurt now.
He ripped his jersey and came back out wearing #25 with no name.
Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s good for the conference to have the league’s cellar dwellers of the last 5+ years improve & create more parity, but deep down the diehard gopher fan in me will miss the annual tradition of lighting up Wisco 3-4 times a year.
Bucky is certainly a much improved team. Hope to see a much better effort from the boys tomorrow - lets hope Todd was right when he predicted a split.
That was an ass kicking after the first fifteen seconds. Wisconsin played a big boy game and the Gophers were not up to the task. They skated through us and were always looking to knock us off the puck. We are content stick checking. We were exhausted in the second period. Constantly chasing and getting hit every time we touched the puck. It started to get to the d-men and even some forwards. We have to be willing to dump the puck and make the physical play to get the puck back. Tomorrow will be very interesting.
Has Motzko ever defeated Hastings.
goldy you are wrong - his head did in fact continue forward and never snapped back outside of his entire body going backwards from the check.
Que sera sera.
Hoping he also wins the next 3 against the MN State BADgers
I’m confident tBob will break down that tape and find an answer for Fri night
Roll Denver vs Mankato for the 2022 NCAA Men's Hockey Championship!
Denver worked hard throughout the game and then scored 5 goals in the 3rd period to win 5 - 1!!
Go Gophers
Not knowing what to do, they do what they know . . .
Knowing what to do, they sometime don't do it . . .
The 26th year of the Gopher Men's Hockey Profile got to be too much for this ol' codger to handle . . . what with all of the possible activity on the transfer portal . . . . So, I'm closing it down at the 25th year . . .
I'm kind of glad I missed this game last night. I checked Twitter a couple times while I was working and quickly realized it was a clunker of a game for the Gophers. I was really hoping to stick it to those Purple Baaadgers. I imagine after some can kicking last night and some video breakdown today Bob will have them ready. The postgame from Bob was very direct, he was NOT happy with his forwards.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
If there was contact with the head, his head wouldn't continue to move towards Strobel after contact. That's a shoulder to the chest.

I agree with you. There was no contact to the head. Bad call but I doubt it influenced the end result of the game.
BTW, I saw Fish go down the tunnel when they were reviewing that play. Hope he isn't hurt now.

TV said blood and Clymer said in all the years of Gopher Hockey, he's never seen a player for the Gophers have that happen. As in changing their jersey in the middle of a game.
Keep your stick on the ice...

I'm with J22 on this one. For as much as I like hard nose physical hockey and player safety in the same sentence. This was shoulder to the chest. The stripes reviewed and analyzed this one for way to long as @dxmnkd316 mentioned.

@frozen4champs agreed. About the worst I’ve seen since the green pukes were here and pasted us a few years back. Whole team put together a clunker without really anyone standing out the other way. Don’t know who the emotional leader is for this group yet but hopefully they’ll know the right strings to pull.
that said, if this is going to happen, I’d rather it be now and this team peak late. No one will remember this game come March if they’re winning

Agreed, that’s a terrible call. But it had nothing to do with the outcome of the game.
We didn't lose because of the refs. We lost because we were out standing again.
I didn't see the kneeing penalty live, but if it was as bad as others mentioned, we should have gotten one anyways.
I said before the game to my wife, the one ref is probably the worst in the big ten. I have a vague recollection he was one of the guys on the ice when the fans started throwing beers. But that might be a false memory at this point.
Anyways, they were damn close to losing control of the game early on. The sconny player ran Close and instead of pulling Close aside and explaining it, he scowled at him for the thirty seconds before the whistle and kept barking at him. Not a good look.
I swear every BADger player took a shower with their jerseys on between the 2nd and 3rd periods.

Said the exact same thing to my wife. I've never seen a torn jersey before. I also noticed one of the badger players had a slightly torn jersey on the back.
I hope they have extra extras given how crappy the ordering process with Nike has been for the team.

Don't know how the NCAA and the "U" handles player jersey. The though the NHL each player is issues 3 sets of each color. The first sets is used the first 3rd of season, the 2nd sets the second third of the season and the 3rd sets the end of the season and playoffs. So ripped jersey like last night would be repaired. The NHL takes pride in player used jerseys and make them a rarity for collectors. Even on the inside of the jersey there's imbordered or a patch stating which set it is. After many years of being the gatekeeper at the Hockey Lodge and dealing with all the game used memorabilia collectors, it's crazy.

Don’t love the Thursday-Friday series but it is what it is. Still Gopher hockey, still a rivalry weekend. I hope the fans show up and get loud! This team is fun to watch and worth supporting!!
It's been 17 years since I attended a game at Mariucci/3M but will be there tonight. Watched the first two periods last night and would agree - the Gophers did not show up. Hope to see a better effort tonight in person. Doing the frozen tundra doubleheader - hockey tonight & FB game with Sparty Saturday.
- It's been a long time since I've seen a MN team so utterly lost from the top of the circles in one end to the top of the circles in the other zone.
- I lost count of how many pucks didn't bounce MN's way. You make your own luck with hustle and MN didn't make anything.
- If I'm tBob I burn the recording of this one. As Ted Lasso said, be a goldfish.
- Clunkers in October stink but don't stink as badly as clunkers in March

Is Chesley Hurt or is he just not one of those guys that does not like contact. If the puck was in a corner he was not going hard into them and was not stepping up to make contact when the Evil Red came into the zone. He was backing up into Close
Some thoughts about last night:
- Hastings has taken the best of MSU play (clog the middle, push to the boards, etc.) and added some speed the BADgers haven't had the last few years. This is a good team that is well coached. Hastings certainly seems to have tBob's number
- Fish has got to go. It's been a good run, but he has been turrible the last two games. Too many mistakes; being out of position; bad passing. Could this just be a bad run? Perhaps. But having him in the regular rotation is showing some glaring weakness. Rud and Koester can't return soon enough.
- Gophers were lucky to be tied midway through the 2nd after essentially playing a solid 15 seconds during that time.
I am hoping the boys can come back tonight and give a solid 60 minutes like they did last weekend.

Chesley has had a brutal two games. I know he is better than he is showing. Wonder if he is still injured.

Turnover machine.
Did anyone else notice Snuggerud late in the game on the blue line (must have been a power play) and when the Badgers took the puck out of their zone Jimmy just slowly skated back? Not even really trying to help on the defensive end?
We need these players to put in full efforts, because the Badger were clearly putting in 100%.
I'm guessing you will see quite a bit of frustration from Snuggerud because supporting Cooley and Knies is a lot easier than being the guy.Did anyone else notice Snuggerud late in the game on the blue line (must have been a power play) and when the Badgers took the puck out of their zone Jimmy just slowly skated back? Refs were not the problem last night. We got worked over.
the Strobel call was weak, however with the emphasis they have put on head contact the last 2 years, I get why they made the call.
The Fish knee was a good non-call. He was stopping and the Wisconsin player jumped to change lanes/direction. Incidental IMO.
Flush it and move on. Be better tonight.

I have a suggestion on where he can vent his frustration. It's black, rubbery, and it belongs behind a dark jersey.
I think I saw someone propose it on twitter, but the idea that Snuggerud could be put on the Pitlick-Huglen line to mix things up a bit is well within the realm of possibility. Those two can grind pucks out and feed him so he just needs to shoot. I don't love Moore-Lamb-Kurth on paper but maybe they'd click, too.
Moore has been invisible the past few games. He has to adapt to the physicality. Can’t get his speed up if there’s someone in the way. Finding someone who can take up space for him would be ideal.

For whatever reason Kurth reminds me of a bowling ball out there so maybe that Snuggerud/Kurth swap could help in that way too.
I can't believe I forgot they were on last night. But apparently I didn't miss much. Hastings is a great coach. I wish he would've stayed at MSU. I'm not looking forward to playing them with him at the helm.
Lamb has been the best player on his line the last two games. Feel like that is a problem.
I said it in chat, but Brodzinski is the death of me. I couldn't keep track of how many failed clearing attempts he had, and when combined with lax effort, weak shots, and an inability to forecheck hard or attack an opponent, he is wasting time better given to a younger player. I don't expect him to have Oliver Moore speed, but when you aren't the fast one you better make up for it in other ways. He gave us nothing and put us repeatedly in bad spots last night.
I expect more from a 5th year senior getting the TOI he is. At some point tBob needs to pull the plug on him and put him in the extra skater role-- where he can be rolled out on the PP or use his shot but not given a regular shift.
I really hope he proves me wrong-- we need him to really step up this role if we are going to be in St. Paul in April. But if this is his trajectory I just don't see it.

It was clear by his third year the plug that should have been pulled many times (moving him to the 4th line or healthy scratching) is never going to be pulled.
