Notre Dame wins...Gophers never even possessed the puck.

I have said it since day 1 3x3 overtime is a joke.

Shock of shocks Chesley was out there...

Absolutely brutal reffing for a period and an overtime

Refs put a bow on that one. Inexcusable missed calls.

Ugly OT. Refs swallowed their whistles late in the third for one reason or another. Gophers did not earn a win in any manner. On to Michigan State.

Actually embarrassing from the ref crew. Like 5 straight should have been called and not a one. Fucking joke

The refs stunk hard, but the Gophs lost because of their play especially their sloppy play in their own end.  If they play even half as good in the 2nd as they did in the 3rd they win the game.

Very disappointing to watch...

I got the board on Koster, the roughing on Moore, the trip on Huglen, the trip on Lamb and the hold to lose the game. All 5 should be penalties. No reason none of them are

I usually mock people who blame a loss on the refs. But that 3rd period and OT was ridiculous.

Which Gopher goalie is doing a better job of losing the starting position?

thought souliere was fine. Which of those did you feel was his fault?

Can't imagine being upset with Souliere tonight. He wasn't unbeatable but did his job and made some big saves late.

He was fine in general. Just wish somebody would step up and win/steal a game for the team.

The goalie is nowhere near the issue.  The defensive zone play was terrible.

I can not say enough how much I despise the 3 on 3 overtime.  It’s GD boring! Go back to a real OT period, I don’t see the advantage to the current one at all.

Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

The officiating was so poor in the game I’m gonna get my own eyes checked.

@upnorthkid I’ve come to the conclusion that 90% of the people on this board haven’t played competitive hockey beyond Squirt C. The constant critiques of EVERYTHING the Gophers do is beyond the pale. The Gophers played solid. Notre Dame has a lot of talent with a couple studs from the World Junior team and a great goalie in Say. Souls’ played lights out. He didn’t give up a bad goal and he made some KEY saves. The Gophs have to work on the special teams but they’re pissed off with a chip on their shoulder heading on road and that’s a good thing.

Yes, the refs were AWFUL.  Yes, the Gophers need to step up in games like this.

...But why in the world doesn't SOMEONE tell Motzko to ask for a review of the FIRST check from behind into the boards?  That was so blatant that the only answer was that nobody else on the team saw it.

Agreed. To be sure, I don't think this was a great game from the Gophers. They played sloppy in their own zone, at least for the first period, and didn't display the same hustle and forecheck they had in game one. That being said, any one of the (at least) 5 missed calls in the 3rd and OT could have been a game-changing power play for Minnesota, and they were egregious penalties rather than borderline penalties that were missed. Most of the missed calls were in plain sight with a ref looking on. I'm also perplexed by the fact that there were at least 3 checking from behind missed calls in this series, one of which caused Clark to miss tonight's game, and none of them were reviewed after the play.

Ah I see we are at the point in the season where someone tells us only people who played at a high level can have an opinion on the team.  It came early this year usually it happens around March 🤣

Pack it up people...no need to discuss anything anymore since none of us have experience.  Lock up the Vikings thread, the music thread, the restaurant thread...I mean since none of us did any of that at a high level we are under qualified to have an opinion!

Thank you letting us know Mr. Nanny it's an honor to be in your presence!

The speed in the NHL makes it much more exciting, but tonight's OT was a perfect example of how awful it can be.  Make it a defensive zone face off if you take it out of the zone...

Who doesn’t love watching three guys skate around in the neutral zone? 3 on 3 OT is so thrilling!

I thought the leprechauns were just trying to dick around long enough to make it to a shootout and a guaranteed win. 😬

The ref needs a wife…

@handyman  Not seeing a lot of bonafide discussion but plenty of incessant whining that’s completely unwarranted. Everyone has an opinion but most don’t have a clue when it comes to playing the game vs being an arm chair critic. We need to enjoy and celebrate the Gophers instead of trashing them for some myopic minutia. Just my humble opinion 🤣

eh I don’t know. The Gophs were fine tonight. Probably a B- type game from them. Souliere was fine. Think he’d say he’d like the one low glove back but there were no soft goals. I think there were many things the Gophs deserved to have critiqued tonight as the passing was sloppy and the effort up and down. They are clearly a better team than ND but anyone can beat you any night in the Big Ten. Another series win and the season series over ND. I’m not going to broken up over any game that we lose in OT or a SO because neither of those things exist in when it matters. This team needs to get healthier again and it was good to get some guys back, but you could see the rust for some of them. Clark adds a lot of speed down the lineup so losing him is not inconsequential so hopefully he’s back next weekend

Well, they reviewed the cross check to the face of Moore and didn't call it so it probably wouldn't have done any good.

In the NHL they actually try to play as well.  Notre Dame was fine holding the puck the whole time cause a "tie" was a positive outcome for them.  Like back in the day when Wisconsin (and half the NHL) would constantly ice the puck to keep the score close or hold a lead.

Agreed on the some sort of face-off rule.

It’s a msg. board, it comes with the territory. People try to one up someone all the time. Especially from ones with little to no participation. Or the ones with no face to their username.

Keep your stick on the ice...

When players play well they get praise (we had people literally asking if this was the best Gopher Team ever in November) and when they play subpar they get criticized.  This isn't peewees it's ok to call a spade a spade.

The Gophers are clearly the better team and for about half the game they played as such.  But they made plenty of bone headed plays and the players doing it are better than that.  1 goal for sure came on lazy clearing attempts (and they almost scored a couple other times because of it) and another because a Dman made a bad decision in the neutral zone.  It happens, and I doubt it will persist but it is still worth calling out.

No one wants anyone fired or cut from the team...heck we still probably should have won the game.  We didn't because we made mistakes and shot ourselves in the foot and because Notre Dame wanted it more.  YMMV

(I'm leaving the refs out of this)

I bet it won’t be long before a shot on goal is required before you can retreat to the neutral zone.

Minnesota was chasing all night. Notre Dame got the first goal again, depite being outplayed to that point. The Gophers tied it up but went down a goal and then chased again. And again. After a couple of their goals they almost gave up a goal on their first shift after scoring.

Notre Dame played a much better neutral zone game tonight and again outplayed (out willed) Minnesota in the second period. I felt that if the Gophers got a lead, they would force ND out of its comfort zone. Unfortunately, they never had a chance to find out.

That was a winnable game but it didn't work out that way. Minnesota should beat ND 3 out of four times, which is exactly the way it worked out. So...next!

Edit: worst officiated game of the season so far. Third period there were 4 or five that went uncalled and the hold in OT that allowed ND to gain possession of the puck for the gwg.

This. There’s a reason ND felt like they had the puck all night, because they did. ND was never really threatening with the puck they just cycled and cycled and didn’t give our potent offense any extra ammo. Tip of the cap from me.

If there’s one thing that seriously concerns me with this team it’s faceoffs.

we won the faceoffs tonight 31-30. Unsure how the hell they’re counting as sure didn’t feel that way, but just thought I’d mention it
