Maybe. I don't see WisconSIN taking a series from tOSU, so I suspect we're looking at Buckeyes in two weekends (assuming we don't completely screw up with the Domers next weekend). Of course, could end up PSU at Mariucci for the championship.
9 of the last 12 years for conference titles. Helluva run.
That is really impressive, yes. A year or two ago, someone on Reddit was asking about the B1G trophy, if it was a single trophy that travelled ala MacNaughton Cup, or a new one every year. I popped in to answer that it's a new trophy every year, and as a Gopher fan, I'd know, because the Gophers had most of them. Michigan state is now the only non-Gopher team that has one more than 1 regular season B1G championship. MN: 7 (1 shared)
MSU: 2 (1 shared)
WisconSIN/tOSU/PSU/Notre Dame: 1 each
Michigan: 0
I'm not sure what's more impressive: Minnesota's seven, or Michigan's zero...

PSU v MI is gonna be a barn burner
If Penn St shows up to Mich like they did today, Penn St will win. They are a good team, I have a feeling we will be seeing them again somewhere.

Absolutely. I see PSU as the lone visiting team to win a series in the 1st round.
Will be interesting to see what the PWR probability matrix shows tomorrow. I suspect with this win + WMU loss, the Gophers may have locked in a #1 seed.
Master stroke by Motzko to win big ten title but avoid the first round bye! Must be the best coach ever!
He said on the radio that this was what he wanted... win the championship, but not have to deal with the bye and at most 2 games in 20+ days leading to the tournament.

I seem to recall someone on here saying we could benefit from not having a first round bye. 😁
Still thrilled to have a banner to hang!!!! It’s like the best of both worlds!

So losing a bunch of 3 on 3 OTs and shoot outs was all just part of the plan. 😲 🤣
One has to do what is necessary to avoid the bye. #NecessaryEvil

Western lost. Denver lost. Bc tied. Almost like winning this time of year is hard
Denver lost to St. Cloud who going into the game had one win in their last 15 conference games.
Fire Carle
When ever anybody says Fire Motzko my thought is always Does Carle want to be the coach of the Gophers? If not then no we shouldn't fire Motzko.
It'd also be one thing if they were losing these games in regulation but they aren’t, they’re losing in a format that isn’t used beyond the regular season and isn’t really reflective of their 5 on 5 play.
so now we know who was waiting in the wings for the job and who all those people wanted.
I think tBob deserved to be fired but also rehired because he’s tBob also he shouldn’t have been fired but also should have retired instead of rehired but I’m still also glad he came out of retirement to be rehired.
That anyone seriously says he should be fired boggles the mind. Who is a better coach in the Big Ten? How many coaches in the NCAA are better? Who could we get that is better?

If Penn state had scored would the goal come off? That's bullshit.
LMAO. As it turns out, YES, it would have been disallowed. What a stupid set of rules.
So here's a question that came up in a text, if Penn State had scored, does Minnesota challenge to get the goal pulled off, get a major, and go down a player?
that is just it… MN would not ask for a review of their own infraction. If PSU scored, they would let it go and not ask for a review to negate their own goal. So I believe that the PSU goal would have been good

Agreed. Even if I thought Motzko should go (which I don't) the question would be "and replace him with whom, exactly?" With Carle being the best coach in college hockey right now, I could see him as a bit of an an improvement. Anyone else would be a lateral move.
Would tBob have pulled the goalie if the game was tied with 1 minute left to try to win a co-championship? That would have been a gutsy move. I say no, that the pairwise points getting to OT would have been more important.
I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey

I thought the same thing watching the game. I came to the same conclusion. PWR points matter more.

Just friggin dumb.
J22 seems to have all the answers…😁😉
Well I'm excited to find out!
Sometimes I miss tbe trolls...like the guy who told us how bad a coach and recruiter Motzko was, how the leadership was trash and the team was not that great...the year they made it to the Title Game. 🤣
Nice bounce back for the series win. As someone mentioned, they had to overcome a hostile crowd, a hot goaltender, and a team on a roll. Oh, they also had to win despite a two-goal swing courtesy of another subjective hit-to-the-head call. The Chesley call was a 2-minute high stick at most.
I'd like to see the league figure this out. Giving a team a 5-minute advantage on these fickle video interpretations is too much. The PSU 5-minute was obvious but in truth Rinzel could have been called for a 2-minute high stick as well.

FIRE MOTZKO! ONLY ONE GOAL ON THE MAJOR!
😀
I forgot to mention how well executed that power play was, they had possession the vast majority of it, didn't mess up the entries, and created a bunch of good chances.
After last night's overtime loss, I was kind of grumpy, but not really because of how we played or didn't play; just we were approaching the time of year where we need to find ways to win games like that, especially against Tournament teams and PSU is playing like a Tournament team right now.
With that in mind, tonight was way better. Not only did we pull away at the end, we did so in the face of, shall we say, unusual officiating and we're going to see officiating that we're not used to in a few weeks.
In all seriousness, getting the title and avoiding the bye is probably the best case scenario for this team. The only thing I don't like about it is that we're facing a Notre Dame team that gooned in up back in November and I haven't forgotten about that. Let's just make sure to take care of business next weekend and get out of it healthy.
Does tBob get the full bonus for just a share of the season title?
