So Chesley’s was a penalty last night in OT, but we get mugged tonight and no call?
Don’t care about shootouts. Let’s sweep OSU.
At some point the guys shooting are in their head about this. Wood was a great move and bad ice. The other 2 were just mediocre moves.
At least they played overtime with mostly the correct strategy.
What will Bob’s excuse be this weekend?

They played well. 1 pt off a split against Michigan. I am very happy as Souliere played great and the team finally has line combos and will gel. Hopefully Koster is OK.
I fail to comprehend how Gophers skaters think they're going to find an edge on a PS when they lollygag their way to the net and/or skate so far out of position that by the time they get back they've helped the goalie improve their angle. It's fricking ludicrous.

What are you talking about lol? The team played fine this weekend. And it helped our chances of not getting the bye and sitting around for two weeks.
Got some solid goaltending too.
Lamb, Kurth, Chesley, and Rinzel need to figure it out for the stretch run.
He is prone to this. I get that he wants to be the guy but trying too hard and not sharing the puck leads to dumb plays.81 is a turnover machine tonight
one of the worst games I’ve seen from him this year. Feels like he’s pressing to try score right now or make some crazy passes rather than the simple play
I'm trying real hard to roll with the punches here, but how many fans would like this team's chances if the NCAAs started next week? Nobody would be too surprised if they were an early flame-out.

Disagree! Too many unforced turnovers, defense got played, snuggy, chesley & a few others did not have good games. Gap control poor, tgey let Mich come into the zone waaay to easy.

The typical basement couch sitters get bent out of shape if we don't win 40-0. Of the 7 losses this year, I would say 3 of those the Gophers played horrible. The other losses/ties they had a chance to win. They just need to find a way to finish. They need to figure out how to play a complete 60 minutes.
I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey
nope. Just being realistic. For all the talent it was underwhelming. Yes, Soliere was good but they did not look like a cohesive group.
so yes I will sit on my couch and make comments to tick you off.
grow up pal.

Good thing they have 4-9 games against NCAA tourney caliber teams to figure it out before then.

The loss against ND at home
Against MSU 9-3 lol
Against Ohio State
Yea 3 sounds about right to me.
Today was an even game on the road vs a good team, anything could’ve happened in 5v5 OT. Yesterday they should’ve won but were snake bitten. They do need to get more consistent in terms of their passing and not just throw away entire periods throwing the puck around that part is more concerning than the result imo.
As far as predicting NCAA tourney success off these games, all I can say is hopefully the other conferences’ refs aren’t completely braindead like the ones we see every weekend.
Yep… and GPL is nothing to Gopher Hockey groups on fb. The relentless keyboard warriors really show their intelligence or lack of it.
Keep your stick on the ice...
@mikeeruzione11 2 outa 6 isn't good enough. Michigan is down this year.
MSUs season is over given they only took 7/12 from Michigan. Not good enough compared to the 8/12 we took.
Do you realize how ridiculous you sound?
@jankwi01 actually it’s 8 out of 12 points against Michigan this year. That’s good every year against them. They are #12 in the Pairwise, which again is pretty solid. They’re better than you think they are.
What will Bob’s excuse be this weekend?

Agree with this. Some guys really struggling out there right now with both Chesley (he's been an absolute turnover machine) and Rinzel (still waiting for him to take that last leap to Lacombe level and it's just not all coming together) taking steps backward and Lamb not existing since the start of the second half. Think this is part of the reason Snuggy is pressing is that our secondary scoring has really dried up
They need to get back to playing their simple game. Need our best players to play their best games. We've had too much of 1 or 2 guys going each night and not a full team effort, especially not for 60 minutes. Wood and Moore were outstanding tonight. Lot of other guys no showed
I view 4 wins in their last ten games as concerning.
Just as concerning is that I don’t see any real improvement from week to week.
I will cheer for this team until the end hoping they can turn it around, but disappointing weekends are becoming too common.
Yes, 8 of 12, which is great. I just think they look a little disorganized lately and need to shift gears. I will acknowledge the couch comment may have been a bit much. But, I will support this team that is a top 5 team in the country today, or during the late Woog years that were not, with as much positive passion as the others who immediately have negative reactions. I want them to win as much as any other fan and will offer my observations when they need improvement. I was all in for Lucia til the end, and when I thought it was time for him to move on, I said so. Motzko is far from that point. As far as growing up, I wish I could fast forward 4 years so I could retire.

I know, as I avoid those after a loss.

We're fresh off watching a 14-win Vikings team sh*t the bed, so anyone would be forgiven for panicking over a Gophers Hockey swoon. 😀nope. Just being realistic. For all the talent it was underwhelming. Yes, Soliere was good but they did not look like a cohesive group.

The Big Ten is just solid, pretty much top to bottom now. That’s what everyone wanted. Well, here we are. Gotta get over the belief that a sweep on the road is a sure thing. Their goalie makes an unbelievable save in OT to save the game. Two tough, close, road games that could have gone either way.
Interestingly enough for all the people stressing over the Gophers right now (I am one of them who is also feeling frustrated with how they've played), we and BC are the only teams with 20 wins in regulation right now. This team has been bad (to put in bluntly) in overtime. Luckily we've been pretty damn good in regulation this season and oddly enough, come postseason we play OT the same way as regulation.
The games all get tighter from here on out (and have for the last several weeks) as teams as getting more and more desperate. BC lost 2 games prior to tonight. Maine tied last night and is losing late in the 3rd tonight. Providence and BU just split this weekend. If this team even half ass starts finishing chances like they were at the beginning of the year, they'll be fine. Their method to win is something they're needing to figure out a bit and the best version of themselves translates to post season hockey if they can decide to put it together and execute it.
Next weekend with OSU is going to be very telling for the season. Hopefully Mikey is back for it. Really sad to see him go down like that.

People still go on FB?
I do, but the only "group/s" I'm in are beer groups.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

Mostly to post pics of what they are eating or what they dress their pets up for Halloween. 😉

I would be surprised. Sorry I just can't share you pessimism nor that of our Bonin-clone claiming Michigan is down this year.

re: Facebook
There are some of us that live half-way across the planet and it's a good way to stay in contact with friends and family back home. Also if you don't follow dickwads it's easy for your feed to be more of what you want to see than not. I mean aside from BlueSky (which so far has been saved from bots), is any SM platform out there really better? If you say TT...
All good points, they were unlucky to even be in OT yesterday and today could’ve gone either way. These next two weeks hopefully we see a slightly more consistent effort and if they do that they probably win four games. They’re certainly capable but we haven’t seen it in a while. The Big Ten is just solid, pretty much top to bottom now. That’s what everyone wanted. Well, here we are. edit: as far as social media I probably use Instagram for that purpose the most but still use FB a little

this is all i care about. sometimes puck luck and randomness will bite you (Stein grabbed a puck behind him and pulled one off the line tonight for example; Zeimer being overturned to be offside yesterday). you can control effort and it hasn't been their best recently
Will be interesting to hear why Bob didn't ask the refs to review the elbow to Koster's head.

If he would have lost that challenge, which with the refs who knows, he would not have had the chance to review the kick in goal. We really didn't get a good replay on TV, and I assume the guys upstairs for the Gophers felt it wasn't worth the risk of losing the timeout. I don't blame him on that one. Everything with the refs are a crap shoot these days.

@frozen4champs The refs should have reviewed it on their own.
I agree that the refs should have, but when they didn't, Bob and his review staff knows, like the fans, they have no idea what the results would be. If it were in the 3rd period, then I think he would have challenged it. So, I was fine that they didn't challenge that one at that time of the game.

A couple of thoughts:
- I am less concerned they didn't gain much on MSU and more that they didn't create distance to tOSU. Next weekend will be the biggest series of the year (so far)
- Hard to imagine the non-call against Mich tonight in OT was made by the same refs that called the OT call against Gophs last night
- tBob should have asked for a review of the hit on Koster. Not saying it would have made a difference, but it seemed like an easy choice to me
- At least Wood came close to a SO goal. He's the only one in my recent memory that has at least gotten the puck past the goalie
While I am not giving up on this team (been around too long to do that), the last 10 games have been a bit concerning. Getting at least 5 or 6 pts. next week is really important.
Disappointing weekend overall but hardly the nail in the coffin to our season that some on X think it is. Not often I say this as a Gopher fan but our high end players didn’t make enough high end plays this weekend. The chances were there both nights. A handful of posts, missed chances.
Oh and that save Stein made on Mittelstadt in OT was ridiculous. Should have been a split weekend after that pass from Lamb.
The Gophers leave Ann Arbor with 0.866% of a win and 1.166% of a loss.
Michigan with 1.166% win and 0.866% loss.
So actually it was pretty dang close to a split. Much closer to a split than a Michigan sweep.
Brennan Poterzay was on BTP this weekend. Great interview, Talked goalies and he explained how he and Jacob Leroy are in charge of watching for plays that need to be reviewed. His segment starts about the 1:02 mark.

It's entirely in keeping with what I've seen from B1G refs the last couple years, leading to why Bob may not have challenged, because he's seen the same thing.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
C’mon, there’s no way to spin it positively….when U don’t register a win in either game. In addition…why the Gophers are unable to prevail in a shoot out (with the skill level of their top players) is absolutely BIZARRE. On to next week and Ohio State. The Gophers leave Ann Arbor with 0.866% of a win and 1.166% of a loss.
Michigan with 1.166% win and 0.866% loss.

I think Herb Brooks if he was still here he would have them on the ice doing shots on goalie on Sunday, AGAIN,AGAIN,AGAIN
Aloha!
The shootout has become almost comical. I now have three goals for a Gopher shootout:
1) Get all the way to the net without losing the puck
2) Make some sort of "move"
3) Get a shot on net
I think we might have gotten all of those on Saturday. How any D1 team in the country can go 28 straight without a goal is insane to me. I'm also shocked but how poor the PK is.
All that, I'm still holding out hope that it all comes together. Decent season, some great stretches of play but feel like there is always a lull that comes back to bite them.
