26 more goals scored compared to the second place team in the B1G. When this team gets going, they are a fun bunch to watch!

5 seconds is the record, 1968 against MI.

Do you who scored that one?

From the media guide.

FASTEST FIRST GOAL OF GAME:

0:05 Bill Klatt at Michigan, 1/13/68 (MICH 7, UM 6)

My brother was at Hill with Billy Klatt; one of the guys that helped put them on the high school hockey map, so to speak. Excellent player for the Gophers and also spent a couple years with the Fighting Saints. Passed away in 2011.

Nothing much to complain about from last nights game. Do it again tonight.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I think they were lucky to be up 2-0 after the first period.  After Cooley's goal, they went in to coast mode for the next 12-14 mins.  Close made some good saves to keep them in it.  Of course, they took complete control in the last two periods, so it all worked out.  Hope they keep that pedal mashed all day today.

Potentially unpopular opinion #2 - I know Pino scored his first goal last night (lucky to be in the right place and right time), but I would still rather see J. Mitts or Strobel in that slot.  Pino is virtually invisible on the ice and the other two guys get dirty and grind the entire shift.

I don’t think your second point is unpopular at all.

That might be an unpopular opinion, but that's only because it's true. They were completely outworked during the middle of the first period. Numerous times before Snuggy's goal, I caught myself thinking it's a good thing Cooley scored on that first shot, because it might be a long time before they get another grade A scoring opportunity. Then the disparity in skill took over, and it was all over but the crying by the midpoint of the second.

Bob say anything about the Pitlick drop pass? Pat was NOT AT ALL pleased about it on the radio call and called it bush league

Sorry what is this all about?

Pitlick had a breakaway and tried the stick between his legs trick shot move and almost pulled it off. MN was up by at least 6-7 at the time IIRC.

got it. the way they called it in the radio made it sound like he passed it. This makes way more sense

I would not be against tBob replacing Schmidt and Pino tonight with Strobel and Mittelstadt. Just need to keep tinkering to find the perfect 4th line.

On the Pitlick move, Clymer said he didn't like it "at that stage of the game." So when would he like it? In a tie game, or down by one? Kind of a silly comment.

On Pitlick's between-the-legs shot, I couldn't decide if it was a good time to try that (8-zip game) or a bad time to try that (8-zip game).

In review, I've decided that on breakaway goals anything is game. We see it all the time in NHL shootouts. Sometimes the fancy stuff goes in, and if that's your best chance, take it. You can't take a knee in hockey, and Bob already took his foot off the gas by giving the 4th line a lot of ice time in the third, most notably on the power play.

Doing something like that in a 8-0 game is a really good way to get one of your stars run through the glass.

I have a tremendous Clymer filter so I didn’t really hear the comment.

Given the move almost worked I think it was a legit scoring attempt

When Clymer limits his commentary to X's and O's he's not terrible, but there's too much pulp in between. Unfortunately for him, he has one of those brain-to-mouth circuit resistors that limits his fluency.

I miss the old days of a stammering Wooger who could give you a belly full of hockey knowledge while telling a great story.

Ezactly, which supports my earlier comment that breakaways sometimes demand moves a goaltender wouldn't expect.

Get Casey Hankinson back in the booth! He was excellent last weekend and head and shoulders above Clymer.

Don't know Casey's availability, but guessing he has a full time job? I would like to see Johnny Pohl make a guest appearance as well.

I notice Clymer does Big10 games as well as the Wild, so I conclude broadcasting is his line of work?

What a great atmosphere, it’s like old times having a full house every night!

Bummed I didn’t hear Steph!

My only complaint is the crowd on the concourse.  It took five minutes to walk one section last night.  If it’s going to be this busy they need to move the promotions table.  So many people were swarming in trying to get posters and kid stuff on one side and beer right across the aisle it was complete gridlock.
having shorter intermissions makes it a race now to get to the bathroom and back before the game starts back up. ?

Guess I’ll have to take one for the team and miss a few minutes of the game to try and pee a few goals.  ?

In related news any time the Gophers score early in a period the bathroom door needs to get locked to keep cowgirl doing her part. ?

In return a TV should be installed in the bathroom. #WinWinSituation

@upnorthkid    Bob didn't address the Pitlick failed fancy breakaway move but he did call out Knies for trying the "mike legg" goal again.  "Knies has tried it 6 times and it hasn't worked yet so he might have to say something"  ?

(FYI this was all in a joking humorous manner so no controversy here)

Last night was fantastic..DO IT AGAIN.  A beat down, a smack down, an old-fashioned ass kicking.  I don’t care what you call it, I want to see the Gophers do it again tonight.

And yes I heard Steph!  I thought I was having a past regression.

I really like having Kurth with 7 & 77. Hopefully that line will be clicking moving forward.

Also agree with "unpopular view #2".  Even better, how about BOTH J. Mitts and Strobel with Lamb?  27-19-17   I don't recall that combo yet all season - I think that could be really dynamic.

Heard an interview with Motzko  on the radio a while back.  He said he only gets to kick the trash can in the locker room 3 times a season.  Otherwise it loses it's effect if he does it too much. After that 1st period he may be using one of his 3 kicks.
