Instead of burying the Simple Pleasures thread I thought I’d start one for what people are reading, authors they enjoy, or just anything book related.
I’ve been trying to get away from the Mitch Rapp, Scot Harvath type stuff and reading new things. Right now I’m reading Edward Snowden’s memoir. I can’t say I’m huge into it yet but I’m finally getting to the part where he talks about why he did what he did and his thought process.
There's a book that just came out, am interested in:
River Kings by Cat Jarman. In-depth history of the Vikings, going wayyyyyy back. Reading the reviews/etc, not a light read, but I'm curious.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
How to Build a Car - Adrian Newey
So far so good
GPL. (It’s what I’m reading).
Well GPL does have both fiction and non fiction.
I just finished The Dagger and the Coin series by Daniel Abraham. Abraham is one of the two authors of The Expanse and has worked with George RR Martin off and on.
I enjoyed the books very much. Pretty straight forward fantasy, and you might see some parallels to some story lines in A Song of Ice and Fire, but at least Abraham knows how to finish books.

Anything by Michael Connelly is proving to be fantastic. For anyone that doesn't know, he's the author of the books that the movie "The Lincoln Lawyer" and the Amazon series "Bosch" are based on.

Haven't bought it nor read it yet, I stress yet, but will be getting it for the summer. History of the Vikings and their travels (no, not the football team )

If you like mysteries, here are my two favorite Minnesota authors: William Kent Krueger who has a series of 19 books based mostly up north in Minnesota. The first in the series is Iron Lake. The other author is Allen Eskens who has 6 books that are related to one another, but not a series. His first book is The Life we Bury, which won an award. Most of Krueger's books are in the Minnesota libraries.
Enjoy!

Reading those now, great books. My wife and I did a mini Bosch tour in L as this past Sunday. The Angels Flight railway is really cool.

If you're interested in the Founding Fathers/ Revolutionary War/ creating a new nation, "Franklin & Washington: The Founding Partnership by Edward J. Larson is pretty good. Not as dry as you might expect of this genre, and doesn't go into a lot of details of individual battles. More of a brief 300 page history lesson. I learned a lot of new things about Ben Franklin.
Norm, the book you recommended is already on my iPad. The Life We Bury. I’m finishing up the second Virgil Flowers book, yours is next up. Thanks.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

Nice....I feel like I'm missing something about LA that I have no idea what they are talking about. Connelly does a pretty good job painting the scene, but that sounds pretty cool
