Another tornado warning. First it was at work in Burnsville, now at home in Apple valley (we live on the Rosemount border). Try quickly catching parakeets to throw in a smaller cage to transport downstairs.

Of course by the time I got them the rain was over. ?

Still getting a little rain for about 10 minutes, then nothing. Then more rain for about 10 minutes, then nothing. Mother Nature doesn't know what she wants to do here.

That’s interesting because it’s come down pretty hard here over the last hour. Definitely been more than just a little rain

That is odd. I've gotten dribbles at best. Hints that something may be coming, but then....pfffffffft.

Tornado warnings. Fun.

I got back to my car last night after softball and as soon as I sat down my phone starts blaring about tornado warnings.

Glad we had the early games last night.

Sadly if a tornado was imminent (or the hubby was home alone) that’s what would happen. We weren’t too worried last night so I gave it a go.

The strange thing about last nights storms were that the NWS did not issue any watches in advance of last nights action. I also don't believe the Twin Cities were under any type of severe threat yesterday. Usually the NWS is over cautious. I think they forecasted "light showers". I know that the heating and the humidity of the day caused these to bubble up, and trying to predict the weather is a crap shoot sometimes, and I am a fan of the NWS in what they do.

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

I got about the same here yesterday. We are at about 1 inch for the month of May now. The corn and soybeans are now up, and would love to see a good soaker, as the ground is just soaking up what we get.

Essentially all day, we were in a "General Risk" category. This is the very bottom of the scale, below even "Marginal"

Even right after the tornado warnings were allowed to expire, the weather radio "Severe Weather Outlook" was saying that spotter activation would not be needed, even though there was an active formal weather net for another 10-15 minutes.

Definitely an usual night, that's for sure.

I was unaware there was action. We had a couple of lightning flashes- just enough to cancel my kid's soccer- and 10 minute of decent rain.

We might see a high that is sub 95F for the first time in 2 months within the week. No I don't miss -10 but I miss fluctuations and the occasional, "wait, what?" without question.

I think I’d rather have the cold than the heat/humidity for long durations. But if you give me a pool I’d certainly give the heat a go, just to make sure.

Couldn’t be better timing for this weather. Pool filter was broken when we opened it a couple weeks ago. Company that closed it down didn’t drain the water out well enough so it cracked. So we’ve had the pump running to at least circulate water. Had that off while we were gone for a few days - turn it on? That breaks too. Well, we are down to scooping the top and running the robot to clean the bottom. Oh, but that just broke too.

If anyone likes pea soup, we should have a great batch cooking by the end of this hot spell. :anger:

Yikes! That’s a bad string of failures just when you need the pool to cool off. We’re heading up to the cabin tomorrow and I’m immediately jumping in the water.

The forecast for the next two weeks is insane. Basically 90 the entire time with little chance of rain.

I feel for anyone who makes their living with outdoor work, or who does not have AC or a cool place to go.

Early June should be some of the nicest days of the year but this is ridiculous.

What will happen when we hit July?! I hope this isn’t our new normal. We seem to gloss over spring and fall anymore.

Stay cool everyone!

The thermometer at Park Point's Sky Harbor Airport hit a remarkable 97 degrees Saturday afternoon — and then immediately plummeted to just 64. The 33-degree dip over the course of just 20 minutes was a reverse of what had occurred less than 24 hours earlier, when the harbor went from 68 to 93 degrees over the same timeframe. The Duluth harbor's rare reading in the upper 90s came at 3:15 p.m. as conditions were calm after a scorching afternoon with a mild western wind. But by 3:35 p.m., Mother Nature's natural air conditioning had kicked in, sending a 20 mph east wind off the lake. By 5:15 p.m., the temperature had dropped a full 40 degrees, to just 57.

Superior's Richard I. Bong Airport saw a similar plummet shortly after 3 p.m., with its thermometer dipping from 95 to 69.

Working outside in this wasn't too bad. Throw in some humidity? Those days were the worst. A lot of people "sick" those days, which made things even better for the rest of us.

It actually wasn't too bad in the shade today. Was at LTD patio with some friends, and much better than yesterday outside.

Unfortunately, the A/C at Pub 819 and LTD were having trouble keeping up with the weather. It was actually nicer OUTSIDE than inside of either place.

We were in the twin ports over memorial weekend. It was 34 degrees when we got into town Thursday night! It could have been a tad warmer for our day hikes, but in hindsight I’m so glad it was in the 40s and 50s, and not the 80s and 90s! ?

Yes - it's not too often when it's 92-93 degrees out around here and it feels noticeably cooler than the day before. The wind helped with that a bit too obviously.

I just walked out on my screened porch though and it feels like a hot, humid mess.

Went out to watch a couple of my buddies playing for a championship today and it definitely felt significantly cooler than yesterday. The increased wind was a factor but even when the wind died down a bit at times it felt noticeably cooler.

It’s awfully damn hot. I’m ok with this later in the summer but I’d prefer to have a month before we got to this

The other issue right now is that allergies are horrible again because of this weather. I think My 3 year old has is allergic to pollen and maybe other things and these last few days have been brutal for him

This is typical (in the long, long run) MN weather. Wild temperature extremes in Northern Plains! . Jan 31st 2019 - 37 below Feb 1st + 33. 100 degrees in the summer one day, 55 degrees the next ? But I agree…it’s awfully damn HOT!

Just received this in an email sent by our electric cooperative:

The heat wave we are experiencing has prompted the operator of the electric transmission system in our region to issue a maximum generation emergency event. Wright-Hennepin is asking its members to conserve electricity. Please cut back energy use until 10 p.m. today. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Energy-saving suggestions include:

Postponing use of appliances such as washers, dryers and dishwashers until after 10 p.m.

Turning off lights and appliances that are not essential to health and safety.

Turning off computers and other electrical equipment when not in use.

Keeping your shades pulled and doors and windows closed during the day.

Using a microwave oven instead of a conventional electric oven or gas stove.

Setting the thermostat on your central air conditioner to 78 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.

Supplementing air-conditioner use with ceiling fans and other fans, which create a wind-chill effect that increases air-conditioning cooling efficiency.

Taking shorter showers.

Utility officials made the conservation appeal after all other efforts to reduce electricity demand or to increase supply were implemented. We take our responsibility to supply energy to our members very seriously, and we made this request only after exhausting all other options.

We abide by most of those during the heat of the summer. We grill out about 5 days a week during the summer to avoid heating up the house from the use of the oven. Our water heater was purchased at a large discounted price from the local electric co-op and they installed a usage meter on it, so they can shut it down during peak times. With only 2 of us in the house, we have never had an issue of no hot water.

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

Seriously. WTF?

It isn’t mid July. There is no end in site.

This is what is surprising to me. Looking at the forecasts, this doesn't stop anytime soon.

Our REA controls our water heater and AC from their end. We have never even noticed it when they shut them down.

70s in Da UP. It feels great!

Tentatively planning on a 4 or 5 day UP ride with some riding buddies who have never ridden there leaving Monday June 21st.

H-58, AKA The Hurricane Highway, out of Munising is a great ride. It will be good to have to have a sweatshirt on in the AM.
