I think we are in the 7 range in the Piper corner of Capital City.

Sounds about right in the Ridgedale area. I still love that people come barreling up behind me at normal speed limits on semi-plowed roads, see me, then back off hardcore. Thank you, I'll just roll along merrily on my way at 5 under the limit, staying in my lane.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
A monster storm is heading for Minnesota early next week. It will depend on what the temperature is on what kind of moisture you will receive. The Cities could get 2 inches of rain if it stays warm, but southern Mn could get a foot of snow with some ice. At least it is not a hockey weekend.
I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey

Yesterday my Weather Underground app said we were forecasted to get 1" each day for Tues-Th. Today it says 5" Tues and 2" Wed. Should be interesting. I'd rather have the snow than the ice so lets hope for cold temps.
Yesterday afternoon the NWS reduced the amount of snow that Mankato was supposed to get last night. Well, mother nature fooled them and we got all of 3"-4" last night but it melting fast. The roads were a mess this morning but now they have all melted off and are just wet.
The storm next week may or may not be a doozy which will raise hell with some of the big jobs we have planned at work next week. Minnesota winters! Gotta love them!

When GPL's resident meteorologist post updates on our family chatter site I will copy them here.
Since she went east for school I shan't mention I anticipate the will be really bummed out this weekend.

now we are back down to 2” Tues and 1” each on Wed and Th.

When I looked at my app on Wed morning it showed 9-15 inches next Wed. When I looked Wed night it showed 2 niches of rain and 1 inch of snow. Gonna be close on temps.
Slop of ice and mix precip with potential of 3 ish inches Tuesday and into Wednesday. Lull Wednesday and Wednesday night with another round of all snow with up to 6 inches Thursday afternoon through Friday morning-most falling overnight at this time.
{Redacted - Niece living south of Mankato} your forecast is much different. Mankato will miss most of round 1 and will likely only see 3ish inches Thursday night and by Friday am.
The Dakotas and north/central MN will be impassible from Tuesday am to Friday am. Also the cold air will move in behind the storm, with highs in the single digits early next week. And the bitter cold will remain a while

As of this morning, we are in the bullseye for the ice down here in SW Mn, followed by 6-8 inches of snow and wind. It will all depend on the temp. I will gladly take 18 inches of snow over any ice. Luckily the power lines for me are underground, but with the ice and wind, I bet we will lose power at some point.

I wish we were getting more snow than freezing rain here in Mankato, much easier to navigate. Also, I'll take the snow later this week over the freezing temps that follow the next round of snow going through the weekend into next week.

It looks funny, but this winter storm watch area is setting up correctly
Please remain weather aware this week…the risks for different elements will be changing often here in the cities throughout the week. Snow, sleet, fz rain, rain, snow again. But generally, we’re sitting in the dry slot and on the warm side, so in terms of potential for major ice and major snowfall totals…it will miss us but we’re not totally out of the woods Meanwhile, the town of Lead in the Black Hills region of SD could see 100” of snow in 3 days. Not even exaggerating

Just slush over here...much ado about nothing in the New Hope area.
We have what appears to be an inch or so of snow/slush. But let me tell you it was a bich shoveling. My driveway has a slope so the water from the slush at the top drains to the bottom and it made the snow soooo heavy to shovel that I couldn't push it. I had to scoop and throw. The plows came through and rather than the snow flying off the blade, it just slumped off the end in slush boulders.
I took the shoveling very slowly to keep from dying, but it was still a workout. I will keep the sidewalk for an afternoon chore.
Did anyone else hear thunder last night? I woke up somewhere between midnight and 2:00 am to a huge clap of thunder. About a minute later we had another one but not quite as loud. Pretty impressive for December.
Got quite a lot of snow over night and it is still going but honestly it's mostly slush. My car had no issues even being "plowed in" already.
Looks cool though!
I swear our street is the last to get plowed in Rosemount. It's almost always after lunch when we'll see a plow blow through. And digging out the snow wake in the driveway from yesterday, last night was a real treat!!!
I went to college there 1980-81 it was the coldest year of my life, good thing UMD was at the time where I could walk in the indoor tunnels to get to class, the lunch room and stores to make purchases, I do not miss that place what do ever!

Walking up the hill from The Reef at 1AM in January when it's -10 and the wind howling off the lake....oi!
Good thing I was fortified! 😉

Duluth is expecting 2 feet of snow from this storm
Good thing it's not hilly there.
I still remember a Gopher hockey road trip up there about 20-22ish years ago where we got about 18 inches of snow the Saturday night. It was a mess.
I am pretty sure that is the night I was bounced from the Sports Garden and was literally picked up and thrown into a snow bank…..just like the movies.
We had some very good times at that bar. That night was no exception, right up until I was bounced.

Went there in '93-'94, IIRC one day the state closed, or at least Duluth did...the run on liquor stores was insane. I don't think anyone cared, b/c there was no way you were getting anywhere the next day, people were just having house/dorm/etc parties and staying in.

Looks like another "fun" weather week ahead. Extreme cold late in the week with a blizzard thrown in for us hardy folks in the southern part of the state on Thursday and Friday.
