We have had nothing but trouble with Sonju Ford in Two Harbors. They are by far the worst business to ever deal with. They don't stand behind their warranties and belittle you. They even blocked my wife's phone number while they had our car in their possession for eight months!! It was ridiculous. I have no idea how the service manager there has a job. Zero people skills and just a complete lack of anything. We ended up having to get it towed from their service center to a ford dealership in Duluth to finally get the needed repairs done, which were under warranty. It took a total of 10 months, all the while we were paying on a vehicle we did not have in our possession. What a mess. Never again.

Yikes! Boy if that was me I’d be escalating the situation. I’d contact Ford and lodge a complaint. Those dealerships/branded service centers are linked to Ford, they need to know when one falls that far short of customer service. I would send a bullet outline to Ford, do NOT send to the GM or President. Look online and see if you can find a VP to start with. (Check Elliott Advocacy under their CAR forum for current names/emails). Besides telling them about these serious issue lapses, what do you want as compensation? They’re not going to give you 8-10 months of payments, but I’d ask for the towing charge, extended warranty if you want and a round amount for your problems. I would drive home the point you had to pay for a car you couldn’t use AND that another dealership had the repair done in minimum time. Honestly that’s outrageous.

A second email to the MN AG may also light a fire.

I do love exposing people/companies for poor service/products. Don't avoid social media. Many companies will make up for your problems when they are faced with public reviews.

I once purchased two faucets for a bathroom remodel. Both of them had the same defect which caused them to leak internally. The leak caused damage to my brand new Thomasville vanity. I gave a very negative product rating on the Home Depot website. The company fell over themselves trying to make it better and, more importantly, have me remove the product review. They paid for two new faucets of my choice and paid for the cost of a new cabinet. IIRC, it cost them around $2,000 to fix the review and make it right.

Consider myself lucky... I bought the Max Care Plan when I bought my Dodge Journey. And it has paid for itself. I've had a couple problems with one Dodge dealership honoring the plan. Though you just don't take their BS and they'll fold. My plan is to drive my Journey into the ground or until Dodge pays me out on the plan. When I'm at a Dodge dealership and in the shop talking to an advisor or mechanic. They all agree, if I'm fine with driving a older vehicle and fine with some minor inconveniences... keep driving it.

Btw... Bloomington Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram is the best dealership I've ever dealt with in Minnesota. Followed by Dodge of Burnsville.

Keep your stick on the ice...

What I don't understand is why, once they have a repair scheduled, they don't set aside the parts needed. Once or twice, ok, maybe something went wrong on an earlier repair for the same issue, but FIVE times?!?!?

I expect they're scheduling service based on when they expect to receive the part, and the part isn't showing up.

The supply chain people I'm hearing from told me about EIGHTEEN WEEK lead times for some of the parts we rely on. They suspect a lot of that is padding and I sure do hope they're right.

I suppose that makes sense... but that's a HORRIBLE practice.... make the customer shuffle their life to get in to get a safety issue fixed, and keep cancelling?

I had this happen with my Nissan a couple times where they expected the part then didn't have it. It was pretty annoying but the second time it happened I actually contacted the guy who sold me both my Nissans and confirmed it was indeed an issue because he knew I'd find out anyways.

However, in Fightclub's case they didn't play the "you aren't a good service customer" card. That's beyond horrible.

I see a post about getting a lawyer involved. One thing I’ve learned from Elliott Advocacy is NEVER use this threat as it’s the nuclear option. Once you say you’re going to call a lawyer or tell them you’ve already spoken to one they will have nothing to do with you. You go to their legal team and that’s who you deal with.

It’s the same with taking a complaint immediately to the top…when the CEO or President says no, you’ve run out of options, no VP is going to then say yes.

Always send a clear email, no attachments, and keep it short. They won’t read a “novel”. Lay out the problem. Tell them what you want to resolve the problem. Be REASONABLE!

Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

You have some solid points in this, but not all of it is accurate, at least in my job. Full disclosure, I handle installations for Home Depot pretty much everything north of 694 and all of North Dakota. While I have seen it all, most of it is generally easy to deal with. The first thing I will say, if you are fair and reasonable to deal with, you will get the best resolution you can get. If you kick and scream and do whatever, I am much less likely to deal with you that way. Let me clear this up too, I have been doing this for 20+ years, I am VERY good at my job (not cocky, just a fact) and while most think they are the most important issue on the table, they are not.

Threatening an attorney actually helps me out. I know how courts decide things, I know the law, I know what I can and can't do. If you tell me you have an attorney, I will not tell you I am not talking with you (this is a myth), but I will tell you that is your right and I am good with that, but I would prefer to work this out locally, getting your attorney involved with my corporate attorney gets messy and no one wins.

People threaten the AGO (Attorney Generals Office) of the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and all that those 2 agencies care about if that we respond with a reasonable resolution. Meaning, if you are upset with your install or whatever, as long as we are making reasonable attempts to resolve, they are fine with that.

At the end of the day, I would just keep asking for the next level of management until I am heard. Be prepared though, while your particular carpet install is the most important inconvenience in your life, in this day and age, delays are inevitable and because your carpet didn't get installed on the schedule day because the crew called in with a positive COVID test and you have a graduation party, it does not entitle you to a full refund or even a large settlement.

Thanks for the real-life insight. I’m passing on advice from Elliott Advocacy, they are big “don’t involve lawyers” LoL

That and always be polite! I love reading their columns, mostly because we are avid travelers and I’ve learned a ton from other peoples mistakes.

Trying to buy football tickets (single game vs. OSU, student season for the boy) and the website keeps crashing when actually trying to reach the ticket buy page. I'm going to be in town for that game and it would be my first opportunity to see the Bank.

Sounds like the NPS website for buying passes to Glacier Nat'l Park and Going to the Sun Road. I have no problems getting my ticket, though I read all the time in a GNP fb page. People are saying the GTTSR passes sell out in 3 minutes every day.

The national Parks are getting huge numbers of visitors as a result of COVID. We are a little worried about being able to get into Arches and Zion next month when we go. There is talk of ticketed entries and such but I don’t think it will happen until September if it does.

Generally we’ve taken our vacations to some pretty busy places the two weeks leading up to Labor Day with very few crowds. I hope it’s similar this year since a large part of the country will have kids just going back to school

Allow for plenty of time, traffic can get tied up there.

Try having a cabin 10 minutes of Glacier. It gets crazier every years for the past 5 years. Covid isn’t helping either. It’s amazing how tourists, especially Californians think they are entitled with no consequences.

In the past we've had good luck the week before Labor Day as so many people are in "back to school mode."

How did that person even make it vertical much less ambulate to a vehicle, get the key into the ignition, and make it even ten feet down a road? Must be a pro drinker.

Functioning alcoholic. For those that listened to the Howard Stern radio show, a regular guest, Hank The Angry Drunken Dwarf (the name went through some changes over the years) regularly blew around a .30 on the show. That was his functioning level. Shock

It is NOT good. Hank died young. 39 years old.

Edit for a "highlight" of the link:

On March 4, 1998, Hank dressed in a pink rabbit suit, took a succession of phone calls from Stern listeners, sang karaoke to Led Zeppelin songs, and blew a .375 on a breathalyzer test.[22]

Doing what I do, I get letters from providers and customers threatening lawsuits for denying coverage or processing claims/appeals a certain way.

If it gets escalated to our legal team (it's happened probably 10 times in my 7ish years in my role, at least in cases I'm involved in), our legal team has me write up exactly what we did, why we did it, and the results. We then forward that write up to our compliance team to make sure we did everything by the book (whether it be a customer's benefit plan, a state mandate, etc.) and if it's all been done correctly our legal team essentially tells me to send them a note with my writeup that says "This was done correctly, if you want to waste your time, go ahead" ?

Not sure I've ever had one where legal had to actively get involved.

My favorites are the ones where it's Joe Smith, Senior VP at Joe Smith Enterprises, and he thinks he's so important that we should break laws to get him what he wants. Occasionally, if we legally can, we'll re-review something if correspondence from the customer or provider wasn't received before the review but we can find proof it was sent (mailing issues, internal routing issues, etc. can all happen) for the sake of customer service. But rarely does it change the results, in my experience.

Yeah last night in the playoffs. Hit a double down the line. Fields were a bit uneven and I guess i stepped in the wrong spot at the wrong time. Felt a pop and then pain shot straight up through the calf.

We only had 10 guys so I played the rest of the game basically on one leg which in retrospect probably was not smart.

Yikes. I’ve heard full tears you can actually see/feel the tendon rolled up in your calf. Achilles take a long time to recover from.

Oof. Full tear?

Not sure yet. Have an appointment Wednesday with an orthopedic specialist to see the extent of the damage.

Good luck. My BIL fully tore his and the post surgery recovery is long. Couldn’t even drive.

Seriously, I wish you luck .

I'm at least lucky it's in my left leg (although that was previously my good leg) so I can still drive and stuff but it's quite painful right now.

Sorry to hear that. That’s awful! How did it happen? Softball?

Yeah last night in the playoffs. Hit a double down the line. Fields were a bit uneven and I guess i stepped in the wrong spot at the wrong time. Felt a pop and then pain shot straight up through the calf.

We only had 10 guys so I played the rest of the game basically on one leg which in retrospect probably was not smart.

Hopefully not a complete tear. Good luck at the DR appt on Wednesday. More time to watch the Twins I guess…ohh…that’s not quite as depressing as getting injured, but still… Wink feeble Gallows Humor attempt…Have a speedy recovery!

I once had to drive from Omaha to Minneapolis with a muscle pull that caused so much inflammation it would touch the sciatic nerve almost anytime I needed to come off the cruise control. As painful as that was it has to pale with what you’re doing with.

Hopefully the recovery goes well.

I haven’t done anything physical for the past 20 years specifically so I don’t tear something. So far, so good!

Update: Not fully ruptured. Partial tearing of the fibrous tendon between the calf and the heel, and strained achilles.

Got an air cast for the next couple weeks and have physical therapy this afternoon to start recovery.

Just catching up....sounds like good news. Best of luck and happy healing.

Thanks! Basically best case scenario for what happened I think. Hopefully able to resume activity in 3-4 weeks.

Good to hear.

Be good about your PT and be glad you are young enough to heal quickly.

We bought some sweet corn from the same local family we always do. You can chew off the whole ear before swallowing. There is basically nothing there. :(

I’ve been really disappointed in all the sweet corn we’ve bought this year. I assumed it was due to the drought

We buy sweet corn from Norms Farm stand outside of Becker, it’s on the way to the cabin. It’s been f’ing fantastic BUT they irrigate their fields. Corn is their main crop so it’s worth it for them. In season we eat it at least twice a week. Not in season or not local, I won’t touch it. I’m a huge sweet corn snob! :D

Yeah it depends on where/who you get it from. We just bought some this week and was probably the best corn I have ever eaten.

Our corn we grew this year has been average. It is in a place that I can't really get water to. The rest of the garden has been hit and miss. I usually use collected rain water to water the garden, but this year dug out about 100 feet of hoses to try to at least get some water on it. The tomatoes and peppers are doing well. Even though I have a fence, the rabbits are really having a nice feast. I have never seen this many rabbits running around this year. Time to try to thin them out.

Well, the other buffets in the area have been closed down due to lack of watering, so your garden is the only dinner option currently available.

My wife always thinks the "farm" critters are cute until they start eating the garden. I have to put fences inside the fences to keep them out this year LoL
