The channel Scammer Payback can be an occasional fun watch on YT.

I found a new scam in my work gmail spam folder today.

Someone claims to have accessed my computer and if I don’t send $1450 in bitcoin (which they so kindly tell you to google how to do if you don’t know) within 48 hours, or they’ll release a video of me “wanking” as well as the porn I was watching at the time. I don’t have a camera on my computer. Nor do I watch porn on my work computer (or any device for that matter!)

I should have taken a screenshot before I deleted it. It was hilarious.

Scammers are getting more and more creative I guess. LoL

. I got one of those a couple years ago. The price was a lot lower. I ignored it. The person who sent it to me was somewhat apologetic in their approach…. Um, it the only reason you weren’t worried because you don’t have a camera?? (ducks)

Yeah.... I started a gmail for semi important. I also have a yahoo to run all my Vegas comps and trips through. So I guess, I'll start moving emails over from hotmail to gmail that a find important and don't want to miss.

More of a dumb question... I've had a Hotmail account since 1999 and in the last 6 months all of a sudden, I've had major problems with almost all my important emails going to the junk file. I go the junk file and mark the same emails over and over as not junk and they still go to junk. I've even checked my filters and nothing stands out.

The simple answer is to get a new email account with another provider... but I hate change.

Check your settings on Netscape. LoL

Compuserve is available ?

I hear AOL is still accepting new requests for e-mail addresses...

Hey, don’t you crap on AOL. I’ve had the same AOL email for almost 40 years! I don’t even have a number in my addy. The last time I had to give it to a tech person they said, and I quote “that’s so old school it’s back…did you work for them?”. LoL

I have your back on this Kelly Red. My aol account works just fine and it was my 1st and will be my last account.

Some dumb azz Gen Xer wants to sneer? F'em

Scams? I have been getting texts telling me I have a package that needs a shipping address update with a link to click on. Yeah right.

I had a robo phone call the other day saying if I don't pay in the next 30 minutes the power will be cut off due to non-payment. I hit the # that brought me to a live person & asked what elec utility I was going to be paying. "Xcel" was the answer. I was hung up on when I responded, "I have service from Conexus & East Central but do you want me to call the MN Attorney General or my local county sheriff?"

I did call the sheriff since I had a # (I know it was not the real #) the call came from.

Unfortunately pretty much all these scam calls come from spoofed numbers so there's very little they can do to track them.

I got a scam call about a month ago saying my Social Security number was being used fraudulently. If you could just give me your SS number and some other info my company will take care of it. Yea right....unfortunately some must fall for it. Call came from a 763 number otherwise I wouldn't have picked up.

I got a couple messages like that too. I don’t answer any number I don’t know, but they were pretty forceful that the government was gonna do something to me if I didn’t call them to deal with it. Yeah OK

I got a call from "Social Security" saying they've detected fraud on my SS account and Federal Marshalls are on their way to arrest me. However they will turn around if I call their number.

Sounds like the time I kicked some lady out of my apt. complex. She told me she knew the top 3 ranked Crips in the Twin Cities and they’ll be looking for me. It’s been several years and I’m still waiting for their visit.

Sounds like you should call the number and stop doing fraud

They can spoof numbers. I had one a couple months ago that purported to come from MY phone number. I answered to have someone in a call center threaten me with arrest in broken english. I put them on hold while I pretended to get something and they stayed on the line for over 4 minutes.

I have a friend who loves to answer these calls and then screw with them. One time I was with him, he put the caller on speaker. They said his car had been found in Arizona and he needed to send money to have it shipped back to him. He went off on this long story about how he loaned it to his nephew who was a drug dealer and on and on his story went for about 10 minutes until the story got so ridiculous that the caller just said “oh shit” and hung up.

On the road today and the hotel I decided to stay in didn't have a secure internet wifi network so that made connecting my laptop to the wifi a million times harder than necessary. :chainsaw: If our CFO didn't examine every cent we spent when we were out on the road I would have the ability to pick a little better hotel. The hotel is nice enough but the wifi is shit.

Wow, I can’t even imagine a hotel with shitty Wi-Fi as long as it’s a name brand one.

It's under the Best Western umbrella and supposedly has a 8.3 rating on Hotels.com. I'm so aggravated right now.

That’s the one chain I avoid. I am a Diamond member with Hilton but if they aren’t available I had been staying with IHG but lately it seems Marriott properties are more readily available so I may switch.

Outside of a couple Home2Suites I've never had a bad experience at a Hilton or a Marriot. The Diamond upgrades at Hilton, when you can get them, are really nice too...to the point I'm thinking about getting their next level credit card to keep my Diamond Status after 2023

Putting several Mankato friends on Faceplace on snooze for the next few days...I hope it doesn't end up being several weeks.

Of course it can't just be "Yeah! My team won!" Nope...it's all "Suck it rodents" and the like.

*Cow fans posting that they are tired of hearing "the Mav's play in a weaker conference". Well..you do. You can be in a weaker conference and still win it all, see Union and Yale in the last 10 years. It doesn't necessarily mean your team is weaker but your stats don't necessarily tell the whole story on your team...that is all. :brickwall:

We’ve been verbally accosted by purple cows more than once already on this trip. Without so much as having said a world or even looked at the person. The next couple days should be fun…in fact I foresee it bordering on pioux like behavior.

Shorewood Liquor will be closed for the next couple months due to a fire. Looks electrical in nature. I don't care about missing shifts or anything, I don't need the money, but I will miss working there on Saturdays. :( It is a fun job, and I have great co-workers. On the super-downside, apparently all bottles must be dumped.

I'm getting details slowly. It LOOKED like it was contained to the register on the photo I was sent, but apparently it's much worse than that. I didn't stop by, but have been in contact with the mgr, and I guess it's really bad.

I called dibs on the Yamazaki 18 already. :D However, I don't think that will be the case. I guess I'm going to be compensated for "missed shifts," which, well, okay. We'll see how that works out.

I'd be fine with either. ;) I was using this extra paycheck to start building a nice collection of things.

Got an update on the store. 2 inches standing water in the entirety of the store, LOTS of smoke damage, and some damage to the Nail Salon next door (we're in a strip mall). Dumping EVERYTHING, then hiring a company to clean up, THEN have to order and restock all inventory and some of that inventory we can no longer get, due to allocation limits, etc. It's gonna be a PITA, for sure.

I am not a fan of broad-brushing an entire generation or society as a whole due to the actions of a few idiots. I know we hear more of these types of things happen more often and I still don't know if it is just because of social media and everyone is a video journalist nowadays or what, but I am still confident those of us raising good kids and holding them accountable when they do screw up that it will prevent this from being even more commonplace.

We have our first mouse in 8 years since moving into this house. I've tried peanut butter but it's not working. Any suggestions?

[edit] PB worked

Last summer at the cabin we had a mouse that would run along the same spot on our counter. I put out an old fashioned snap trap with peanut butter. Each weekend when we came back the peanut butter was gone and the trap remained set. It got to the point I questioned if I even put peanut butter on the damn thing. Then the mouse got brave and the peanut butter would be gone over night. Then it would be gone within a couple hours. Finally I got pissed and surrounded the trap with glue traps (I hate glue traps so this was a last resort). I set it up, went into the living room and within 15 minutes caught the little bastard. One of the smallest mice I have ever seen.

I ended up leaving the same set up in place for another week and never caught another mouse so somehow this little guy was a rogue warrior you battled bravely by himself!

I was going to ask if you had any info on what happened. I’m glad they’re going to reopen but it’s a shame about the amount of dumping that will to happen

I'm getting details slowly. It LOOKED like it was contained to the register on the photo I was sent, but apparently it's much worse than that. I didn't stop by, but have been in contact with the mgr, and I guess it's really bad.

Yeah if it’s electrical I bet what you don’t see is way worse than what you do see

Years ago (30 or so) there was a series of pole buildings here in East Bethel called Sylvester Salvage. A huge new Oshkosh retailer but other than that everything in the place smelled of smoke or mothballs. Canned goods with no labels. Yard tractors with half melted hoods.

They actually sold spirits also that fire damage.

When they had their electrical fire they had taken in a big load of salvage ammo. When that started cooking off the local FD let her burn.

The older player argument that Mav fans will defend to the grave since "they are playing within the rules". Roll

I get it...it's what the rules are and the covid super senior thing is just adding to the insanity. Yes, every program can recruit those same older players/late bloomers. I guess what really gets old though is that those programs using those older players seem to run the same neutral zone trap style of play that is just a bore to watch.

I can’t believe AOL still exists.

Why is that? No issues for me since '93, why change now?

Hey, don’t you crap on AOL. I’ve had the same AOL email for almost 40 years! I don’t even have a number in my addy. The last time I had to give it to a tech person they said, and I quote “that’s so old school it’s back…did you work for them?”.

I don't have a number in my gmail account or any of my junk accounts.

.  After years if experience, I have a couple tips.  1st, use the old-fashioned traps with the metal trigger.  The force of the arm into the yellow plastic triggers creates a dent that makes the trigger difficult to snap.  Even on the metal triggers, mice can lick the PB off without setting off the trap.  My solution was to put a very small amount on the trigger, and a little bit more under the trigger, on the wood.  Most mice I catch are caught with their snout under the trigger.  Regarding the plastic-trigger traps, years ago, I set two up next to each other, each facing the opposite way.  I put something under the corner of one to make it unstable.  I set up a camcorder and recorded overnight.  Here is the result.

I went to order pizza for take out today.  Not only was I asked to tip for the order but it defaulted to a 15% tip.

Everywhere we turn now it seems like someone wants a gratuity.  I actually don't mind if they want to ask but don't set a default unless it's something people traditionally tip for.

This isn’t a new thing, it’s been happening for years although technology has changed the dynamic. I always thought it was odd which services were acceptable tipping venues and which were not. My guess is they got tired of tightwads tipping a dollar but 15% seems about right. That’s only $2-3 on a pizza. I’m trying to do my best to help the restaurant industry folks as I used to work in it and now work in an adjacent industry.
