Holy crap (I think) that's Dizzy Gillespie on trumpet at the start! I had no idea he was in Cab's band.

Rolling Stones to have new album this year with Paul Mcartney and Ringo Star included on recording
Aloha!
Been running through a mix today of Black Flag, Minutemen, The Stooges, Bad Brains, Germs and Hüsker Dü.
Found this on CD-ROM when looking for a GWAR cassette. Yeah, I'm old.

I wonder if there's another band that's lost 100% of its original members as quickly as Skynyrd. Say a minimum of 4 starting members.
Separate thought - early Skynyrd music is tremendous, but pretty awful after the plane crash.

and they will still be playing in Minnesota this summer

IIRC this coincided with the "Pulse" release. So damn good. I don't even remember if it was PPV or not, but I know we watched it. No way we were missing it.

I don't watch a ton of reaction videos because they can be somewhat repetitive, but this compilation is pretty cool. Not only their reactions during the song but how speechless and amazed so many of them were at the end.

I was a sophomore in HS in 2001. I had a cousin die and my mom diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer right before the school year year started. A week in, a friend who had his drivers license said I looked like I needed an escape and invited me to join him to go see his favorite band - Tool at Xcel energy center. They had just released a new album. I had never knowingly heard them before, just listened to smashing pumpkins, metallica, nirvana, etc. whatever was on 93X at the time and had never been to a concert. I was unsure, and my parents we very nervous about letting me go knowing nothing about the band... but let me go anyway.
They opened with The Grudge and ended with the song in the video above - Lateralus. I remember them dimming the lights for what felt like half an hour, and rushing the floor when the bass line for The Grudge kicked in the dark. It was one of the most cathartic experiences I have ever had. The opening band was Meshuggah, who I still listen to, they were eye opening (and my gateway drug to metal) and Tool was just incredible. It felt like there were zero mistakes, just a precision machine up there. Adam's guitar, Justin's bass, Danny's drums - all flawless. They ended with that song above, Lateralus, and I did not want that concert to end, I couldn't believe that was it. Every song seem to build on the previous one and get better. I am sure I had a similar reaction to the people in that video. Hearing those songs for the first time in that environment for the first time was incredible. I was completely blown away.
My school photo was the next day with me in my concert tee from the night before, still have the shirt. That album was the background for getting through a pretty rough year of my life. I complain about concert ticket prices a lot, and don't go to many. I don't care what Tool charges if they are touring, I am going, end of story.
I am sure everyone has a band like that for them. Tool is that band for me.
The best first reaction song I have seen (and yes, I have been watching a lot of first reaction songs):

@fightclub30 - that's a pretty cool story. Thanks for sharing
@the-rube - there are quite a few compilation reactions out there. I find them more enjoyable than one-offs.
Compilations are indeed the best.

Brothers don't shake hands...
Never piss off a grandma.
Saw these guys at a block party around 2013. Blew me away.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
For those of a certain age and musical taste, Sunny Day Real Estate are beyond reproach. In September, I made the trip to Lawrence to see the opening show of their first tour in 12 years. They'll be playing at First Ave next month (where they used to have a star, not sure if they still do).
Took advantage of the Xcel Energy Center presale offer to score two tickets to Clapton in September. Neither my wife nor I have seen him live so we are super excited!

When I saw that he was coming to St Paul it reminded me how I saw him at the Children's Museum the following day after he played his last show there 14 years ago. I just head nodded him while he was there with his daughter. Still one of the coolest things I've ever seen...guitar legend just being a dad.

Extreme is dropping some new music and they have put out a few videos for a couple of tracks. I will say I am quite impressed with the new music from the band that is known for their hit "More Than Words"

Went down an Al Green rabbit hole earlier today, and then hit up a classic blues list on Spotify with Robert Johnson, Ma Rainey, Etta James, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Muddy, Freddie King, BB, Howlin’ Wolf, Big Mama Thornton, etc. Not a bad listening session.
Also the Foos announced a new record will hit in June. Honestly I was 50/50 they'd continue or not so this is good news to me at least.
Tonight 1st Ave The Suburbs ???

There isn't a better Sunday morning than listening to those old, old blues over a cup of coffee on the patio/balcony/deck...

The show was so good they had Bobby Z and Dr. Fink from the Revolution play a couple,of songs
???
Nice! I’ve never seen them live - other than a quick set before a Twins game and need to get to a show. We went to our first New Standards holiday show this past year, Chan is hilarious and the show is fantastic.

Wowzers.

His Queen videos are funny, too.

I've visited MN in the fall the last 2 years but have thought about coming in the summer instead. Lover & Rockets, The Cure and Yeah Yeah Yeahs all have shows withing about a week of each other.
If I did that I probably wouldn't be in town long enough to check this out, but if I were the Friday night lineup would very much interest me.
Aloha!
The Foos announce that Josh Freese will be there touring drummer

Nice. He’s got more than enough chops for their stuff.

I think he is just about the perfect person for the spot. He is/has been friends with the Foos for decades and like you said has the chops to play anything in their playlist.

There are so many bits that make this such a great skit and dare I say it's even better than More Cowbell.
Aloha!
Just one of the good ones...no, great ones of all time. RIP Tina

Well, f*ck... ?. My wife and I were just watching Ike and Tina Turner on The Midnight Special, from February 9, 1973. Another loss. The ranks continue to thin.https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/24/entertainment/tina-turner-death/index.html
King Crimson with a killer version of Bowie's "Heroes" and performed appropriately in Berlin.
