Just thought we could have a thread for stuff we're thankful for this year, debates about best and worst thanksgiving foods, and maybe interesting thanksgiving traditions or out of the ordinary dishes your family does for the holiday.
Traditional dishes/sides: wilted lettuce and radishes.
Gravy sucks.
Thankful for family, friends, random acts of kindness, and just life itself.
Out of the ordinary, although it's sporadic at times (and while I don't care for it, it's tradition): Green Goop aka Pistachio Salad (great grandma always made it).
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Thankful for my health, my new wife, and just life in general. I am not struggling in any area of life and I know many people are.
Stuffing is top shelf thanksgiving food. I only eat it once a year but my sister has a recipe that's perfect.
Sweet potatoes are trash.
We always have deviled eggs as like a thanksgiving appetizer, which isn't that weird of a food, but I don't think many people have them as a thanksgiving staple.
Oh and for some reason it has become a tradition that every adult does a shot of fireball after dinner and dessert.
Thankful for family, friends, good health & the other blessings in my life.
Sweet Potatoes are not trash, underrated if anything! Stuffing, Potatoes & scalloped corn all top drawer IMO.
GB casserole is trash. Just a veg covered in condensed soup.
Regardless of what sides are on the table, can we all agree Pecan Pie is the best way to end Turkey day!? Just made one yesterday day.
Happy Thanksgiving all!
lol.. then something tells me you wouldn’t like https://www.thespruceeats.com/difference-between-turnips-and-rutabagas-3050542 either ? they were served at Thanksgiving back in the day…
Sweet potatoes are trash.
My Mom grew up in a small town south of Duluth where rutabagas were a staple of most of the families. She used to to try serving them to Dad and I. She eventually gave up.
Obligatory
1) Stuffing with gravy
2) Mashed potatoes with gravy
3) Green Bean Casserole with LOTS of French’s Onions and gravy
4) Sweet Potatoes no gravy
5) Whipped Cream with Pumpkin Pie
Keep your stick on the ice...

pumpkin pie drowning in whipped cream is the only way to fill in the cracks at the end of a thanksgiving meal!
I am thankful for Gopher hockey having a series in a great place over the holiday, providing a great excuse to escape the cold.
Happy thanksgiving to the GPL family! May your tables be filled with great food and surrounded by friends and loved ones, and may the local Minnesota sports team provide us with a win tonight! ?
Ut oh Von Miller has to get carted off….
Green bean casserole is not trash, it’s just fine. Veges in a sauce is always preferred.
Turkey gravy is a gift from god, the greatest sauce ever created. Beef gravy is solid too.
What's with this casserole BS? It's hotdish!
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Green bean hotdish? That sounds weird.
Also, no one eats more Mac n cheese than me but that’s not a Thanksgiving side. It has to be turkey and mashed potatoes and a bunch of other crap you only eat once a year.
We are the way we are. It's hotdish.

Is Romo really expecting us to be believe that even a single Buffalo player is doing his own snow removal? Come on, they’re all millionaires…they’re paying someone to do it.
The idea that it’s mentally taxing for them is ridiculous.

The majority was Bills Mafia, but some players did dig out themselves.

I’m not believing that for a second
If their kicker missed that chip shot cause he had to shovel his driveway last week that’s a complete organizational failure by the Bills.
Should have seen the vids on Twitter. 😉

Made a Turkey as requested by our guests. Had one bite. Focused more on our 7 sides; stuffing, corn casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, wild rice, green bean casserole, Mac and cheese, and rolls.
Homemade apple pie. Pumpkins are for carving and never eating.
Wild rice ? WTF?
I'm thankful for my family... My wife and I had both sets of in-laws over. And we all get along... really well.
Keep your stick on the ice...

Does corn casserole taste like cornbread? If this is the dish I'm thinking of I'm bummed neither I nor any member of my family knows how to make it because its super good.
Again, enough with this casserole BS! 😉

Corn casserole is kinda like creamed corn. Cornbread actually tastes good, especially with loads of butter.
Again, enough with this casserole BS! 😉
The term “hot dish” should be reserved for only the best casseroles. I like tuna casserole but come on it’s never hot dish level. We have to have standards.
Then never mind. Sounds like this corn casserole belongs next to the sweet potatoes in the compost bin

Ok, that is a fair point, I will concede to that.

Yeah it’s a fourth tier side.
1. mashers and gravy
2. homemade rolls with warm butter
3. good tart AF cranberry with orange zest
4. Green bean casserole with real mushrooms and crispy onions on top.
5. Everything else
OK maybe it’s 5th tier
Wild rice is perfectly normal and I don't care what you say the natives presented the pilgrims with mac and cheese.
Also, to me, it seems that side dishes were always casseroles. Main courses, not as much.Again, enough with this casserole BS! 😉
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
This year I tried the Meat Church Bird Baptism Brine on our turkey. I always brine my turkey each year but I wanted to give this a shot. The brine was perfect complement to the turkey, it added a just enough flavor while not to overwhelm the usual salt/pepper/thyme/rosemary that I season the turkey with before I put it in the roaster. Also, I always spatchcock the turkey before I brine so that I can use the back and giblets to make the broth for the stuffing and gravy.
As far as sides go in our family:
1. Mashed potatoes...I can take or leave the gravy. My mashed potatoes are plenty good without the gravy on them. Top O' Tator is the best thing to mix in with the potatoes to kick up their flavor.
2. Stuffing - I take the little bit of meat from the back and neck along with the giblets and put those in the stuffing using the broth. My son and I are the only ones that eat it but it's soo good.
After those two sides and turkey I really don't care. We go back and forth with either rolls or cheddar bay biscuits, though my wife always has her Norwegian lefse...lard lefse, not that sacrilegious potato crap...her words.
I love Thanksgiving meals. Love to prep them, cook them, and share them with family and friends. Then there are the leftovers!
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
