I think it has been pretty great. Obviously not every sketch is going to hit, but they’re doing a good job of playing the hits. They may not be the hits you want them to be.

3 hour show, I gave up at 8:30, it was that bad. I really should have given up an hour earlier. That is how unfunny I found it.

I don't know if it matters, but found the SNL love in the Mike Myers/Carvey/Nealon era, and on video, appreciated the Murphy/Belushi era.

Thats the thing about SNL. Everyone always thinks a previous era is better. It’s usually the one they started watching in high school or college. Truth is, about 80% of the sketches are forgettable and not funny. People just forget about that 80% over time.

There have been more than a few skits over time that were hilarious (D* In A Box, the Beavis/Butthead thing ZOMG hilarious), just talking in general terms.

Of course there have been "more than a few incredible" skits, but Snowcool is correct - pretty much every episode has a handful of clunkers with very few exceptions. This season btw has been very good overall.

The special, over 50 years of skits, and even coming up with new ones, so disappointing.

I thought they left us hanging there at the end….

I haven’t seen a lot of SNL over the years but thought there would be a little more reminiscing, and showing some of the more memorable old skits.  I was a bit disappointed.

If you have Peacock, they have a 4 part documentary series about SNL called SNL50 - Beyond Saturday Night. Lots of behind the scenes stuff and my favorite is episode 2 that is all about the making of More Cowbell.

I too thought the skits were average at best.  The highlight for me was Eddie Murphy as Tracy Morgan.

Even though the skits weren’t very good it was cool that most of the characters in each sketch were celebrities.

I read that Bill Hader had a long time scheduling conflict but I’m curious why there was no Dana Carvey.

I know Dana Carvey has appeared on the show a few times this year as various characters, so that was strange. As someone who watched SNL religiously during the early year, I thought it was pretty good, not great. I still DVR the show, but we usually only watch the opening monologue, the musical guest and the weekend update.

After this weekend the last thing I need to hear is more cowbell. 🤣😉

I don’t have peacock but it would be interesting to watch.

The funniest moment was the montage of horrible stereotyped characters and racist jokes.  The “ dead honky” retort still is a SNL best.

The saddest was the old short film “Don’t Look Back in Anger” with John Belushi playing an old man, the last surviving original cast member.  It was heartbreaking in its irony.

The show was okay, some funny, some tired and stale.  I think the funniest line was the backstage woman who dressed all the hosts and has seen everyone in their underwear.  Favorite? Jason Momoa!  You and me both sister.

When people tell me I’ll regret not having kids, I say that’s okay I know a really good place to cry. It’s my vacation home.

A couple things on the SNL50 special.  I didn't watch it but I did watch some clips of it and I really wasn't impressed.  I listen to the Dana Carvey/David Spade podcast which focuses on past SNL actors or actors experiences on SNL and across the board they talk about how bits don't make to air.  Then you watch SNL50 and think just how bad some of the bits were that didn't make it.

SNL used to be dangerous but it's a different day and age now.  My favorite time was the Meyers/Carvey and Sandler/Farley era.  The only thing good now is Jost/Che on Weekend update.  Also...IMO Dennis Miller was the best update anchor and it's not even close.

I can appreciate Dennis Miller’s angle but he was likely the worst and least funny Weekend Update host ever, that’s why he also sucked on MNF.

It’s seemingly perpetual that everyone romanticizes older SNL and hates on new casts. The root of comedy is that it sometimes crashes and burns. There are wins in every show, all casts have very funny people. Don’t Boomer it.

Miller… meh. My favorite anchor is probably Norm. Miller may have been more cerebral, but Norm was fearless and it enabled him to do some really great things.

Jost and Che are really good, no complaints. My favorite sign off was probably Nealon’s.

“I’m Kevin Nealon, and that’s news to me.”

Finally got around to the SNL50 special. Watching Eddie Murphy play Tracy Morgan right next to Morgan was pure comedy gold.

Severance S2 has been nothing short of brilliant.

Got a promo deal on Hulu/Dis+ and good thing, I wanted to see the new Daredevil series. 4 eps in (9ep series, but it's not released all at once).

Pretty darn good so far. The opening scenes for the series will throw ya.

Last night I watched "The Twister" on Netflix which is a documentary about the 2011 Joplin EF5 tornado.  It seems like a decent documentary but really it turns into a cliché when the people who are the main focus start giving ridiculous memories from the tornado.

  • "The concrete began to crumble under my feet"
  • "The eye of the tornado was calm and I could see blue sky above"
  • "People thought the tornado was over when we were in the eye, they didn't know that the second half of the tornado was coming"

The founder of my company, he passed a couple years ago, was in the Walmart what took a direct hit that day.  We have an office in Joplin and he was headed to get some groceries and just thought it was another severed storm.  He didn't have local radio on in his truck because he always listened to satellite radio so he had no idea what was just miles to the west of town.  Much like here in Minnesota tornado sirens go off even if the tornado is on the other side of the county.  He said as he walked into the Walmart employees where rushing customers to the back of the store to take shelter.  He hid under some pallet racking while the tornado hit and lived to tell the tale.

Anyway, if you take the time to watch this doc just know that some the tales recounted are a bit farfetched.  It tries to make the movie "Twister" into real life but comes off like a reality show where there are some liberties taken.  There were so many more stories that they could have told and been more impactful but fell short in my opinion.

This is finally changing, in fact, just yesterday, Hennepin county got split into 6 pieces for warning purposes.

Thank goodness!  I've found it very annoying to really lend much credence to the sirens here in Mankato when the severe weather is happening 25 miles south of town.  I hate severe weather so I usually have my apps up when I know something is possible near Mankato.  My family and some friends know this so I usually get texts from all of them asking if they should be on alert or not.  Really Blue Earth and Nicollet counties could be split up into three or four pieces for warning purposes and it would probably cut down the amount of times the sirens would go off in Mankato/North Mankato.

It's something they've been working to implement for a long time.  I remember seeing some people (from the eastern US) wondering why the NWS needed to bother splitting up counties for weather alerts.  I commented in one of the forums (like 10 or 15 years ago) something along the lines of "One of the counties in Minnesota is 25% larger than the state of Connecticut."   That kind of ended that line of questioning.

We were driving through Joplin on our way to AR in the middle of that storm. Obviously we had no idea what we were heading towards at the time.  We were traveling in 3 different vehicles and all parked in a ditch as the worst was happening all around us. I have never before nor since felt that close to my demise.

I hope they fix Dakota county soon.  As far as I know, the sirens are for tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings here.  I seek shelter for one and a viewing point for the other!!!

Bert Kreischer: Lucky

New standup special on Netflix. Well, he dropped a TON of weight (45lbs) so good for him (it's part of his set). If you've seen him, you know what to expect: generally funny, with a couple of hilarious moments sprinkled in. Definitely worth a watch.

Every place has their "Norm." Personally, I used to hang out at a sports card shop in high school. That was the hangout for outcasts like me. We'd sit at the counter and just talk sports, buy cards, trade cards, etc. One guy I knew, sat at the same stool EVERY TIME. Got the nickname "Norm."*

Funny thing his, I knew him previously as his dad was the principal at our school. To this day, I don't refer to him by his real name. It's just "Norm."

*We also had a "Woody," and believe me, his personality earned that nickname. Obviously, we were all big Cheers fans.

Yes, indeed. I don't know if it was actually me, but the GPL crew definitely adorned her as "Vera"

Just finished S1 of Mobland with Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren among others. I thought it was really well done across the board (plot, storytelling, characters, setting, soundtrack), and Brosnan especially in the final absolutely killed it.

Very much recommend S1 and S2 of Mo on Netflix which has this Google explanation:

Mo Najjar straddles the line between two cultures, three languages and a ton of foolishness as a Palestinian refugee constantly living one step away from asylum on the path to U.S. citizenship.
The main character is a pill, but the series on the whole is very well done and the payoff at the end of S2 was extremely rewarding. I'd gauge it as 60/40 comedy/drama and possible even 80/20.
