I think it has been pretty great. Obviously not every sketch is going to hit, but they’re doing a good job of playing the hits. They may not be the hits you want them to be.
3 hour show, I gave up at 8:30, it was that bad. I really should have given up an hour earlier. That is how unfunny I found it.
I don't know if it matters, but found the SNL love in the Mike Myers/Carvey/Nealon era, and on video, appreciated the Murphy/Belushi era.
Thats the thing about SNL. Everyone always thinks a previous era is better. It’s usually the one they started watching in high school or college. Truth is, about 80% of the sketches are forgettable and not funny. People just forget about that 80% over time.
There have been more than a few skits over time that were hilarious (D* In A Box, the Beavis/Butthead thing ZOMG hilarious), just talking in general terms.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Of course there have been "more than a few incredible" skits, but Snowcool is correct - pretty much every episode has a handful of clunkers with very few exceptions. This season btw has been very good overall.
The special, over 50 years of skits, and even coming up with new ones, so disappointing.

I thought they left us hanging there at the end….
I haven’t seen a lot of SNL over the years but thought there would be a little more reminiscing, and showing some of the more memorable old skits. I was a bit disappointed.

If you have Peacock, they have a 4 part documentary series about SNL called SNL50 - Beyond Saturday Night. Lots of behind the scenes stuff and my favorite is episode 2 that is all about the making of More Cowbell.
I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey
I too thought the skits were average at best. The highlight for me was Eddie Murphy as Tracy Morgan.
Even though the skits weren’t very good it was cool that most of the characters in each sketch were celebrities.
I read that Bill Hader had a long time scheduling conflict but I’m curious why there was no Dana Carvey.

I know Dana Carvey has appeared on the show a few times this year as various characters, so that was strange. As someone who watched SNL religiously during the early year, I thought it was pretty good, not great. I still DVR the show, but we usually only watch the opening monologue, the musical guest and the weekend update.

After this weekend the last thing I need to hear is more cowbell. 🤣😉
I don’t have peacock but it would be interesting to watch.
The funniest moment was the montage of horrible stereotyped characters and racist jokes. The “ dead honky” retort still is a SNL best.
The saddest was the old short film “Don’t Look Back in Anger” with John Belushi playing an old man, the last surviving original cast member. It was heartbreaking in its irony.
The show was okay, some funny, some tired and stale. I think the funniest line was the backstage woman who dressed all the hosts and has seen everyone in their underwear. Favorite? Jason Momoa! You and me both sister.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.
A couple things on the SNL50 special. I didn't watch it but I did watch some clips of it and I really wasn't impressed. I listen to the Dana Carvey/David Spade podcast which focuses on past SNL actors or actors experiences on SNL and across the board they talk about how bits don't make to air. Then you watch SNL50 and think just how bad some of the bits were that didn't make it.
SNL used to be dangerous but it's a different day and age now. My favorite time was the Meyers/Carvey and Sandler/Farley era. The only thing good now is Jost/Che on Weekend update. Also...IMO Dennis Miller was the best update anchor and it's not even close.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
I liked the joke on Black Jeopardy about their viewers are the only ones that got Kendrick Lamar's halftime show.

I can appreciate Dennis Miller’s angle but he was likely the worst and least funny Weekend Update host ever, that’s why he also sucked on MNF.
It’s seemingly perpetual that everyone romanticizes older SNL and hates on new casts. The root of comedy is that it sometimes crashes and burns. There are wins in every show, all casts have very funny people. Don’t Boomer it.
Miller… meh. My favorite anchor is probably Norm. Miller may have been more cerebral, but Norm was fearless and it enabled him to do some really great things.
Jost and Che are really good, no complaints. My favorite sign off was probably Nealon’s.
“I’m Kevin Nealon, and that’s news to me.”
