My 1st is scheduled for Thursday. Have never looked forward more to a shot in my life.

Had my second on February 22nd. Nice to be vaccinated, but you still have to wear a mask pretty much wherever you go.

It always amazes me when I see a pic of the Met Center or Met Stadium with all of the open green space in the background.

As I remember the parking lot was MUCH bigger than what's shown in this photo. I'll never forget one frigid night (below zero with wind) when I completely forgot where I parked my car. I nearly froze looking for the blasted thing! These days all you'd have to do is click the remote and the lights will flash. Sure wish I had that feature on that dreadful evening!

I'm done with ushering for the year and probably for good. I don't have a Lancer to raise money for and I'm done with giving up my weekends in the winter. I won't miss the Mav fans and students but I will miss watching hockey for free.

On a side note, I didn't even make it through this shortened season without dealing with a shithead fan. It wasn't a Mav fan...it was a former Gopher player, so he told me. He snuck in with two girls after the ticket office closed but the Civic Center let him stay. He sat down and immediately started in on yelling about every expletive at the refs. He just gave me attitude about how batteries and crap were thrown at them back in the day and he couldn't believe he couldn't yell shit at the refs. I told him not to be a Mav fan. He left after the empty netter and proceeded to chirp at the Civic Center director on the way out. Kind of the low point of the year. I didn't recognize him, he must have played before my fandom began in '06. He was hanging out by the NMU door to catch up with G-Money from what I gather when I was walking out.

Anyway, I hope to be able to catch some Gopher hockey next winter since I will have Friday night's clear since Saturday's should be filled with wrestling tournaments with my son.

I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!

LoL We joked that we knew it was officially spring when our neighbor was washing his convertible in the driveway. Time to take over a plate of cookies and finagle a ride!

First weekend at the lake this year. We closed it down the 3rd weekend in September last fall (normally middle to end of October) due to remodeling our upper level of our house. It’s been a long time, but to be here with 60+ degrees, no snow on the ground and able to do some yard work is pretty awesome! Also the ice is out too which I don’t ever recall it being out this early.

They are pretty easy. The key is to rotate where you plant them every year to avoid diseases. Mainly avoid planting them in the same spot as tomatoes or potatoes from the year before. I have seen people plant potatoes in a 5 gallon bucket in city areas if they don't have space. You can technically plant a potato you buy in a store, but I get "seed" potatoes. Just need to cut the potatoes to make sure you have "eyes" on each potato you plant in the ground. It is "tradition" or an old wives tale to plant your potatoes on Good Friday, although sometimes Good Friday is a bit early since the ground may be frozen or snow still on it.

Easy! As stated above, get seed potatoes. I’ve done them in a big planter, not the ground, sort of a plastic 1/2 wine barrel size. I’ve grown sweet potatoes too.

Plant them soon, next couple of weeks tops, they have a long growing season.

We plant a few in pails every year. During the season we end up adding a little soil to keep the potatoes covered as they grow. We found out the hard way if you leave them uncovered by soil they taste sour.

My brother came up for a quick visit. I found Alphonso mangos at the mercato. We’ve practically made ourselves ill indulging in a childhood memory.

We spent our early childhood in India (parents were both teachers), mangos were our favorite fruit and the woman who cared for us always had them in the kitchen. Fresh mango, mango juice, mango pudding, so many ways she spoiled us. So we sat out on the deck, ate slices of mango, lightly dusted with chili powder, and said a blessing for Ayah Shrama.

Mille Lacs Messenger newspaper out of Isle called ML ice free today, Wed. April 7

That's early. I've seen ice in mid May.

Yep. My first year owning the cabin I was trolling around trying to find a perch hole for the kids and snagged a Muskie. First I have ever caught. I also know they do a Muskie tournament on Cass each year and there are always 8-10 boats casting in the same area I caught mine.

I fish for walleye now though.

We have Muskie fisherman almost every night by the reed bed to the side of our cabin. (Cass). My husband just bought this stupid floating alligator to put in the reeds. It looks very real and has reflective eyes and should scare the carp out of somebody LoL Also the camp kayakers cut through the reeds, first kid that spots the gator is going to freak!

It is currently in a box as we haven’t opened the cabin yet but a photo WILL be taken. You can see the dumb thing on Amazon, search floating 3 pc gator.

Thanks. I think I'll be rigging one of these under the L on the end of my dock. Bass guys just pound lifts & dock when the Bass are on the beds with Tube Jigs, Senkos, etc.

The Nosher at Cecils Deli. I’ve been about 50 times in my life and still haven’t ordered anything different.

Finding a bar within a five minute drive of my hotel with a wide selection of local craft beer/cider/mead that's happy to put a college hockey game up on one of the TVs (and realizes I wanted ESPN not ESPN2 like I'd initially asked for)

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

What a week of breakthroughs it has been! One led to another led to another...

I found the mansion on the hillside to which the music box's song referred. Had to stop taking it totally literally, it does not have a view of the Atlantic but in the yard is a mosaic of the ocean. My granddaughters and I were out for a drive when the oldest mentioned that the hilly landscape made her think of the song. We explored a bit and found a magnificent house. We pulled up into the driveway and rang the doorbell, but no one was home. We decided to look around a bit, saw the grounds, the gardens, the younger granddaughter looked in the garage window and saw a red sports car. Then we saw the mosaic. We noted all this and left.

The house number was 1910. Combine that with the year the song came out, 1999, and we realized we are looking for someone who lived from 1907-1999. That's a fine life.

Still, we knew the dates, but where to look? We called in my former search partner (it's not my kid) to re-examine our records. She re-read the journal and found a reference to a flour mishap. On a whim she decided to pour flour through the thimble onto dark paper - it revealed a rudimentary map of sorts. I realized that it resembled a far off area we once explored, with a cemetery deep in a forest. My search partner and I knew something was off, but we decided to visit at once. This was Friday.

Friday night, we hiked our way in (the search partner and the granddaughters). When we got there, our suspicions were confirmed: this was indeed a very old cemetery, long since abandoned. No one had been buried here in 1999. However, cleaning off the gravestones, we found one for a boy who was born in 1899 and died in 1910. Furthermore, on the stone was the number 75, which didn't seem to serve a purpose. But we remembered when we got those malts in Oregon and heard "Pumped Up Kicks." In a simple number substitution code, the numbers representing pumped add up to 75. This was the place. We knew it wasn't a real grave.

We dug up the not-grave. The "casket" (a small metal box) was empty, except for an elaborate metal handle of a walking stick. A crow. I know where the pond is now. I know where to go.

It's mushroom season LoL

I have no idea what that was, but it was curiously entertaining.
