Social media not existing I don't think anyone I knew was aware of the outcome. I was at a watch party at a friend's house in a neighborhood that seemed like there were a zillion kids my age.

When the game was over every one of us was out in the street hooting and hollering. Our parents graciously let us play boot hockey past midnight that glorious evening on Shaver's Lake Road in Deephaven.

Prime time would make sense because my dad would have been finished milking cows and able to watch the game. Probably the only hockey game he ever watched.

I don't remember the time but I definitely remember my wife and I were on a plane to Denver on a ski trip to Vail. And one of the pilots was keeping passengers up to date on the plane ride there. And when the game was over and he let everyone know the USA won, the whole plane erupted and let out a huge cheer!

The next day my wife and I skipped skiing and watched the Gold Medal game, even though we were super anxious to hit the slopes with the 2-3 inches of powder that fell overnight. It was more than worth it....

I seem to recall the game against the :censored: Finns was at 10 or 11 on a Sunday morning. I remember 8:30 Mass was packed and the Priest may have suggested the 10AM mass would wrap up in record time.

I remember the pastor at church saying a prayer for team USA. That team was my start of my love of hockey. A bunch of the local kids made homemade sticks and we played ball hockey on Sunday afternoons in our haymow during the winters. I finally saved up money to buy a real wooden stick that I still have to this day.

I just finished the most recent John Sanford “Prey” book; Ocean Prey. I’ve now read the entire series, or at least so far. Now I’ve started his Virgil Flowers series. Flowers is a minor character in the Prey books, a small town Southern Minnesota police officer. All through the Prey series the repeating comment by scores of other characters is “ that f’ing Flowers”. LoL It’s a mantra. I’m looking forward to more of a deep dive into him.

Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

Both Virgil and Lucas appear to be irresistible to women. I just can't relate to that.

It’s a male writer, so of course they are. Wink

He does write some good female characters. I liked Rae. And Letty. I understand he’s starting a new series focused on Letty, first book is out late April.

Now SHES interesting!

Found out our eldest (Fr at UM) got s paid internship with Abbot this summer, and they will put him up at a Marriott for the entire duration. I guess brilliance does skip a generation.

Like any novel writer Sanford takes a few liberties with reality from time to time, but overall his books are really, really good. I’ve listened to the majority on CD, checked out from the library (over the past 20 years). Can’t really think of any “Prey” novel or “Fning Flowers” novel that was a dud & I’ve read or listened to all of them. Including Ocean Prey.

Abbott is paying that kind of money for a freshman intern? I guess my $9.75 per hour as a senior isn't all that impressive anymore. LoL

I'd started reading the Virgil Flowers books before he started appearing in the Prey series. I'm up to either # 22 or #23 of the Prey series now so it's less of an issue, but I've enjoyed that angle of the stories taking place in small-town MN.

We need to resurrect the Books thread at some point. I'm starting to be in need of some new things to read again outside of the Mitch Rapp, Scot Harvath, Gabriel Allon type stuff.

Yes it will be at their Plymouth location. I was really floored by the offer especially for a first year student. I don't think I knew anyone when I was that age getting something like that.

Yeah a freshman Roland housing provided for someone local. What are they working in? Like what's their degree?

I wonder if he's going to be at the location then on 169 and 49th Avenue. Internships are extremely competitive these days so the offers have to be really good too.

The interns we're hiring into IT are ones they expect to move into a rotation program after they graduate. That in turn will lead to a fast-tracking of roles and responsibilities and ultimately promotions so they're very highly selective in where they look and who they offer.

He's in engineering and per the offer letter: "We are pleased to offer you the position of Summer Associate-Minnesota Medical Device. We will place

you with our Electrophysiology Operations team (EP Ops)".

davescharf I believe it's located on Nathan Lane if that's the same one you're referring to.

His brother will attend UM School of Biological sciences in the fall and is already telling the elder to find him connections. LoL

I work for a global corporation. Today we received an email stating they are relocating our coworkers in Ukraine and their families to safer areas. They’re providing financial support, housing, transportation, and communication.

It’s great they have the capability to do so and the foresight and compassion to plan for this.

Have you tried the Allen Eskens books? He's a relatively new MN author. I met him at a discussion of his first book "The Life We Bury." Interesting guy. His stories are mystery/human interest and take place in MN. He's up to six books now.

Thanks! I’m always on the lookout for interesting series and I like mystery/crime. I’ve read all of Jo Nesbo and now other Scandinavian writers are on my list.

I finished all of James Rollins Sigma Force series last summer. I’m waiting for Kingdom of Bones. I’m not into the technical military stuff, I like crime.

A Reddit user's Mexican wife filled this out. I'll take it despite the small spelling issue! Realistically, she must have some tie to MN. 75% chance it's totally fake, too.

My Mom is a whiz at WoF. She gets super pissed when they keep buying vowels when it is obvious what the word is. Its comical to listen to. But she also solves it with very few letters showing more often than not.

My uncle is/was too at the time. I haven’t watched it in years in part because every episode seems the same with the vowel buying

When I was home in MN visiting and staying with my parents my Mom (82) wanted me to watch WoF with her every day haha. Her biggest grips is how often people land on Bankrupt/Lose Turn and is convinced it's rigged. LoL

It was silly sitcom fun. John Laroquette was awesome in it.

And Markie didn't show up until season 2, and even then it was spotty. I think she was permanent starting in season 3.
