In 2021 my wife and I finally got to experience Duluth and we both fell in love with the area. We made a couple trips up and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves both times. Canal Park and Lake Superior are wonderful settings that give great views. Watching the sun rise over Lake Superior was a highlight during our trips. The other thing I have found myself fascinated by is the ships going in and out of the harbor and watching the Aerial Bridge go up and down. Throughout the year I have watched the Duluth Harbor cams on You Tube and have enjoyed watching it very much. I bring this up since today Lake Superior shuts down for the season as the Soo Locks close for annual maintenance.

I look forward to more trips to the Duluth area this year as we have two planned already. One we are going to explore Duluth a little more and then the other we are going further up the North Shore. We have made it as far as Silver Bay and plan on making it to Grand Marais this fall.

I am enjoying watching as the last few ships are on Lake Superior today as they either head to the other Great Lakes or into Duluth for winter layup. It has truly been a simple pleasure this past year.

The towns are great but the parks are incredible. Last year was a down year because the rivers were dry. But Cascade River is a wonderful hike.

If you like golfing. Superior National is awesome. It's been many years since I golfed it but having river rapids flow through a hole is pretty awesome. And the view of the lake are great form the hill. :dup:

The MN portion of the NS is spectacular. Going around the lake is beyond spectacular.

One of the best motorcycle tours we have taken. I recommend doing it clockwise.

The North Shore has a northwest Montana/ Glacier Nat’l Park feel, just without the mountains.

A little over a decade ago was one of a few moments where I just stood in absolute awe of something. It was a windy and clear day, and those winds out of the west has been blowing for two or three days leading up to it. Absolutely MASSIVE waves breaking and crashing on the eastern shore near Wawa as the sun set. I wanted the world to stop spinning and stand there forever.

We stayed about 2 miles south of Wawa in a motel on the inland side of the Queens Hyw and walked to a European restaurant right across the road. Rode back to Wawa to Tim Hortons for breakfast & to gas up.

We were in Door County (Lake Michigan) 6-7 years ago and as I turned the corner into Ephraim I saw enormous waves crashing the shore. I had to park the car and get out to watch in awe.

It was a “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” moment for me.

Has anyone been to the pond hockey championship? Is it with it to go - how much of a pain is it to get there and do we have to pay as spectators just to watch?

Anyone here in it?!

Use to go all the time. It’s a good time and if you get cold, just go into the warming house. The warming house smells like used hockey equipment, but it’s all apart of the atmosphere.

Doing the math with the boss today, so I can figure out what I have for PTO this year. Had yesterday off, and my total AFTER that was 32.5 days. Take away my 2 weeks for MI (even though I don't leave until Wed, have to take full weeks for guaranteed approval), I have no clue what to do with the other 22+ days. Good problem to have. :)

What’s more distracting? The fake throw? Or that sailor top and hot pants combo on the dugout girl? LoL

That’s probably not a very PC comment…dugout girl.

She’s a girl in the dugout….so you’re not wrong. I could come up with a few more colorful and definitely not PC titles however. ??

I watched because of the "not aware this really happened comment" but having seen yours, I have to admit, I kept an eye out wondering what dugout girl you were talking about. Mr. Green

Same pickup play that was featured in Little Big League. Wonderful execution.

The reason for my comment was that this pickoff play was recreated in the movie Little Big League. The movie version looks exactly like the real version.

When I played Babe Ruth ball, we successfully executed this play twice when I was playing, once when I was pitching and another when I was playing first. The first when I was 13 was a night game in extra innings and I remember the mosquitos being so bad that you could hardly see due to that so when I “threw it away” it was an easy sell. The second time when I was 15, day game and our only player on the bench that game sat on the edge of the dugout next to the fence the entire game to set it up so in one of the last innings no one thought anything of him sitting there and he slapped the fence to make it seem like the ball hit it.

Boy the circumstances have to be perfect though to execute (close game, very loud chatter, late innings, etc. Good times.

We pulled this off once in a high school game when I was pitching. The next inning I got a base hit and when standing on first base, the other team's first baseman said to me, "You picked the one guy on our team who would fall for it".

I got a letter today from MnDot reminding me that my license is expiring. My birthday was 5 days ago, so my license was already expired. I wanted to get the real ID. I got the necessary paperwork and went to the license bureau in Lakeville. There was no wait. I was figuring that I might get my license renewed with some hassle, but little chance of getting the real ID. In less than 15 minutes, I walked out with my temporary license. They said I would receive my real-id license in 2 weeks. No hassles, no issues.

My in and out for Real ID was similar. Less than 10min. BUT... It took about 8 weeks to get the actual ID. I wish it was only 2 weeks.

I'll let you know when it actually arrives!!

As promised—I received my Real ID today. About 2 1/2 months…

I suspect they quoted me the regular license turnaround.

I can't recall if we were watching the initial TV broadcast (yes, I know it was tape delay) or a replay. I just remember we won and that it was a huge deal for the entire country.

Edit: I know I'm risking a permanent ban by saying this but when I played hockey by myself in the yard in the days following the game, I was always Mike Eruzione instead of a Gophers player. I don't think I comprehended that half the team were Minnesotans :) .

I remember AM1500 (IIRC) broadcasting the game live but not a TV broadcast until ABC played the game.
