Good spot. Good concept. The Christmas decor was great. Sounds like a terrible owner who was not good to employees.
Hopefully someone buys it and keeps the theme going, but is better to the staff.
Had lunch at the new Racks in Minnetonka. Food was average at best, layout was nice. I will refrain comment on the waitress' attire, all I will say it's a "higher class" Hooters. I won't be back.
Very strange concept for that area. Lone Spur was a fun divey place, but Racks doesn't fit the neighborhood.

IMO, they were tired of the "townie" crowd, and want to do a Chammps (which closed at Ridgedale a while ago) and Wild Boar (downtown Hopkins) theme. Figured there was a market there.
Frankly, Pub 819 in downtown Hopkins has many tvs, better food, and a classier (relatively, it's not fine dining, but...) theme going on. And MUCH better beer/whiskey. 😉

That's my Sunday spot for brunch, as Karlsson can attest to. In the last year they're REALLY upped their whiskey game, and the menu changes once in a while. New thing here, new thing there, nothing overhauled, just tweaked.

Yeah they do something similar at The Block and Duke’s.

Duke's is a couple bucks more expensive, at least the one time I stopped there. (due to ZIP Code, they can do that). One plus for Duke's is that they have a full menu all the time, not a brunch/full menu separation.

OMG I just looked up Dukes on Yelp and I want about 10 different things. And all the drinks.
They do a good job, Duke's and 819. I haven't been to the other places. They do have a rewards card (IIRC, 5% return on bill). I have used those points for very good reasons (re: high-end whiskey).

The Block is nice because it is very close, but it has been a little inconsistent recently. Sometimes great, other times meh. It’s never been bad, per se. The broasted chicken is supposed to be their big hit, I was a little underwhelmed by it but have only ordered it once. We used to hit up Stanley’s when we were in NE, was never terribly impressed. Enjoyed my one trip to The Howe pretty well, never been to Draft or whatever the other one is called.

We had a bunch of our favorite flavors of Minnesota get together to celebrate the end of summer: cheese curds, tots, bacon, tangy pickled red onions and mozzarella layered over our Buffalucé sauce. Stick not included.

The Fair shuttle went by the HarMar location and I’ll be honest, I did a double-take. Didn’t think any were left.

Two. Roseville and Eden Prairie. The way they did in their employees when the shutdown happened, I was done with them. They (well, parent company) terminated just about everyone.

I may need to swing in to EP and see if I happen to have any of the plaque badges that I can claim, but... yeahThe Fair shuttle went by the HarMar location and I’ll be honest, I did a double-take. Didn’t think any were left.

IIRC if you didn't claim any during the shutdown, you're prob outta luck. AFAIK, they wiped the slate clean.

I got all mine from Plymouth when they closed (along with a couple other things, tee hee), but yeah, done with them.

Went to Bullvinos last night. It's basically St. Paul's version of Fogo de Chao. Having been to both I much prefer Bullvino's. It's in a really nice building with lots of atmosphere. Fogo feels like a big banquet room to me. They also had a nice option for my wife who didn't want to go for the full AYCE experience. For $29.99 she got the salad bar and 8 oz of any one cut of the beef they offer.
Highly recommend.
The ‘Chili Crisp Shrimp’ at Panda Express is off the charts good.

Duluth is still open too
A couple neighbors of mine hit up Racks in Mtka. Absolutely hated it. They agreed with my assessment that it had bland food and the waitresses resembled a poor man's Hooters.

Never ate a Rax, never found fault with a rack.
Rax was awesome. My parents hardly ever took us out to eat, so Rax was fine dining in the '80's for a kid like me.

About the only thing I’m going miss transferring from a clinic in south Mpls. to a clinic (which I use to work at and was somewhat forced to transfer to the Mpls. clinic) closer to my house… the Somalian restaurants like Chairo Grill (Chicago/Franklin) and their sambusas for lunch!!!

My smoker died an hour into a pork loin tonight. Looks like the head unit fried and doesn't run the element anymore. Ugh.
Taking this as an opportunity to upgrade via DIY since I have nothing to lose. I can replace the element and controller while keeping the box and equipment. For about half the cost of a new one. I know that sounds insane, but the box itself will probably last forever. It's well insulated and has readily available parts.
But the controller well past obsolescence. A number of the forums I've read suggested an Auber is basically like upgrading to a Ferrari. Get some high quality RTDs and this sucker should last another ten plus years.
I looked at buying an entirely new masterbuilt, but the quality sounds like it's really been lacking on newer units. So instead of potentially having to roll the dice on quality, just polish up what I have with high end components.
oh, and the pork loin turned out great. Quickly moved it to the oven and it had just the right amount of smoke.
Given the conversation last night about smokers, this one does make me chuckle.?

Sucks that you had to deal with this, though.

@frozen4champs I really like Zamboni's pizza. Its a must have durning "the Tourney", among others. Hope we will still be able to get in now.
Good for Zamboni's... they pretty much have had a hole in the wall spot for so long. I'm pretty sure talking with the owner's close relative, they do really well with delivery's.

Not totally shocked. Went there a couple of weeks ago. They said they were having an oven issue and couldn’t make anything other than pasta and salad. Ten minutes later they shut it all down. I didn’t think they’d survive the pandemic, but somehow held on for a few more years.

When I was single and living downtown Mpls. OC was my go to place 3-5 times a week. And now it was my pregame for Gopher Hockey with my wife. We were there on the Friday of the STU game at the "X"... now have to find a new pregame establishment.

I never found the fascination with OC. We have friends who live in Eden Prairie, and when we are in town for hockey, that is the place they want to meet at. The service has always been slow and half the time they don't have the beer I drink, which is a basic beer..

This is hilarious because I don't view this thread often and I am meeting some college buddies there tonight. OC use to have around 110 beers between taps, bottles and cans. And over time it has dwindled. When I got married I was at 55 beer tours (110 beers a tour). After 2.5 years of marriage, I still at 55 beer tours... lol.
They only OC's left in state are EP and Duluth.

Not that I would go or take my family on purpose. Though without knowing with the place was exactly. I was talking to my wife about going to the one in Burnsville and checking the place out. For some reason, I googled them and realized it was good thing before walking my kids in.

I always give my friends crap about how much they pay for a beer tour to get a "free" t shirt. I just looked and the beer I drink is in the top 5 domestic beer sales, so they should always have it in stock. I'm not a beer connoisseur, so the other 9 million others that they have on tap doesn't interest me. ?
