With weed being legal to us in MN starting August 1 if you get a new job and have to go in for drug testing and they find weed in your system do you fail the test?
Aloha!
Not a stupid subject... But a TON of gray area needs to be figured out by leadership and HR at most MN companies. They will need to figure out what their policy is and most have not looked at it yet. It will be interesting to see where this goes.

Yeah it will depend on their internal policies. They can choose to hire whoever they want.
Still can't believe that weed is legal before sports gambling... lol!!!

I work for a pharmaceutical company and we definitely test. If you test positive on preemployment screening, you won’t be hired. If you’re an existing employee it depend on local laws. For instance in MN, as of about 8 years ago they couldn’t fire you, but they would have to offer drug counseling and further testing. If you fail follow up testing you can be fired.
Even though they can’t fire you on a first positive test, they can restrict your work activities. Maybe you can’t run heavy or dangerous equipment. Or maybe don’t have access to secure locations or money, etc.
My company has contracts with the federal government so they don’t allow ANY THC in your blood. We can’t even take CBD products as most of them have trace quantities of THC.
The vast majority of companies just do pre employment screening. Heavy equipment operators and some industries do it more often.
I asked my boss about this, b/c it stays in your system for so long, even though you are not under the effects of it. I was honest, and was curious about the gummies that help the aches/pains/etc (I know little to nothing about them, I'm just beginning to learn). Told him I would NEVER be under the influence on the job, but on the weekend if my back acts up, etc.
Pre-employment screen? You're not hired.
Already employed? If you get in an accident on power equipment, you'll get tested, and if you test positive in any way, shape, or form, you're fired. If you are just working and don't seem to be impaired in anyway, shape, or form, they won't randomly test you.
In the end, decided it's not worth risking a (soon to be) 22 year career with the company.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
We had an employee test positive on a random drug screening. She did her counseling and claims she did not smoke after the positive test. When she went back for, I think a two month retest it was positive again and she was fired.
I believe she didn’t smoke again. It just stays in your system so long.
Unless she weighs like 300 LBs she definitely smoked again lol.
I think she smoked a LOT prior.Unless she weighs like 300 LBs she definitely smoked again lol.
Yeah I buy it but my point is that it stays in your fat cells and even if she smoked a ton 2 months would be a long time for it to stay if she actually abstained over that period. It can stay that long but that’s a more extreme case with people who smoked a lot and have a good amount of body fat that they didn’t burn through.
Looking to use a picture on my phone and turn it into a nice hang-on-the-wall piece. Any suggestions on where to go? Preferably on my side of town (Maplewood/NSP).

I have actually been using Walgreens lately for printing. (Unless is it a much bigger print)

I recently had a pic from Banff on my phone made up at Walmart. I thought I wanted one of those canvas types made up but the guy said with those colors I should get what they call a mounted picture. Turned out great.Looking to use a picture on my phone and turn it into a nice hang-on-the-wall piece. Any suggestions on where to go? Preferably on my side of town (Maplewood/NSP).
My wife wants to make a website for our pop-up bookstore out of our garage. The name we want for the website isn’t available for.com but available for.net or.org. We can tweak the name a bit and it’s available for.com.
What’s the major difference between.com and.net or even.org. And do we need to prove anything to be a .org?

You’ve already found one difference. A .net is easier to acquire. I think .net tends to be a bit more a month as well, but you could still use it even though they are usually technology or networking services. I wouldn’t pick .org.
They really just inform users what your business is. What you’re describing would usually be a .com.
Commercial, Networking, Organization
I don’t think there are any laws or rules dictating what you need to do in regards to domain extensions like these, but finding a .com that makes sense is what I would do. Plus, picking what you know is a .com and doing .net instead guarantees people going to the wrong place - almost everyone assumes .com. Hell a lot of devices have a .com button to more quickly fill out a url.
If money is no object, some buy both the .com AND .net, and have them direct to the same page

Whitehouse Custom Color if you want it to be the best. They're local but not exactly a storefront.
mpix.com (Millers) does excellent work as well. Kansas, IIRC. All of my wall art was done by them. I've had wraps, prints, and frames and are really top quality. I'm in love with their glareless glass.
For custom framing and matting, and local, Michaels really does a great job they're just very spendy without sales. I would use WHCC or Mpix for the print though.

So now the NIL nonsense has officially hit high school athletics. Georgia has approved payments to high school athletes.

It appears Georgia is hardly alone in this. From the article:
...
In the southeast, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky and Tennessee high school associations allow NIL activities in some fashion for its student-athletes. The North Carolina High School Athletic Association technically approved a new NIL policy in May. But that change is currently tied up in a legal tug-of-war with the State Board of Education.

Watching college football Oklahoma at Texas clear skies in Austin TX why do they have all the lights on around the stadium? I have seen this before at Twins games played during the day

Wonder if it helps with shadows or perhaps they anticipate rain/cloud cover later? Could also be they are stupid. ?
PS. The game is at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas 😉

So who fires there head coach 1st Vikes or Gopher football
Aloha!
@gopher6 Vikings, 100% It would take Fleck several years of horrible play to get the boot.
I don't know about several years - 2-3 would probably do the trick.
- NFL and NBA shakes hands after each game.
- NHL shakes hands after each playoff series.
- MLB never shakes hands…. Why?!?!?!
Keep your stick on the ice...
“There’s no shaking in baseball”
NBA is arguable on this point, but here goes:
Boxing taps gloves. Dunno about rugby, soccer, etc.
Physical contact sports, they shake hands. I have no clue if this is truth, but it's possible.

Neither. Both have a long rope right now. Both have programs in place that will have to play out long term. Same with GH, Bill Guerin, Twins, maybe Gopher Basketball and at least one more year for Twolves if they implode. I’m not seeing any shakeups in our major teams for a while.
So who fires there head coach 1st Vikes or Gopher football
Neither. Fleck has had more success at MN than any coach in the past 50+ years. One bad season isn't going to matter in the long-run. They already have the hardest B1G schedule and top 5 in the NCAA. Add on lingering injuries in the defensive secondary, the inability to get Autman-Bell back on the field, and the challenges at RB with the Taylor injury and this team wasn't expected to do better than 6-7 wins with all that (they were ~7.5 without the injuries heading into the season).
There is a winnable schedule ahead of them, Iowa, Purdue, Illinois, MSU - all winnable games, take 3 of those to get to bowl eligible and get the win vs. WI at home to end the season. That's still a good season. My expectation this year was bowl eligible.
Fleck is in the pre-scandal Fitzpatrick space - keep the program clean, complete once in awhile, don't be the doormat of the B1G.
Last night while at the game I was noticed STU students drinking in their section, especially one was double fisting two beers to start the third. Tonight, while watching the game on Tv. They zoomed in a student drinking a beer in the student section at Mariucci. The Xcel is one thing, but I thought students weren’t allowed to bring in alcohol in the student section. Or as long as they are 21 and not providing for minors. Are students allowed to drink in the student section.

I don't know the rule, but it would be illogical imho.
Has anyone tried roasting a turkey upside down? I have long considered it, but we usually only roast a turkey once per year. I don't want to screw up the Thanksgiving dinner.
If you've tried it, did you find it to be a significant upgrade?
I do it that way for about 10 years in my electric roaster. I have about 1-2" of water/stock in the bottom of the roaster and I set the turkey breast down on my rack that holds the turkey about 1/2" off the bottom.
My prep for this that I do brine my turkey overnight, approximately 12 hours before I put it in the roaster. I also cut the back out before I brine so that I can use that, the neck, and giblets to make the stock for the turkey, stuffing, and gravy. I rough chop some onions, celery, carrots, and garlic to throw in the roaster with the bird. Finally some salt, pepper, rosemary, and thyme. I set it at 300 deg F and it usually takes a 12-14 bird around 3 to 3-1/2 hours to cook.
I'm not going to say that it is an upgrade but it is my tried and true way of cooking turkey at Thanksgiving that turns out perfect for my family each year. The leftovers are just as delicious the following couple days.

I am hoping to find that the dark meat is done about the same time as the white meat so the white meat isn't overcooked and dry. I know I could quarter the turkey to help it cook evenly, but I prefer to stuff the turkey with actual stuffing. I have an awesome stuffing.

just spatchcock it and dry brine. Skip the wet brine.
Best bird I've ever had. Even my dad liked it. Didn't know turkey could taste that good.

spatchcocking a 20lb bird can’t be easy. It might take more space that is available in an oven.Has anyone tried roasting a turkey upside down? I have long considered it, but we usually only roast a turkey once per year. I don't want to screw up the Thanksgiving dinner.

the hardest part is cutting through the back shoulder blades. With a good pair of shears it shouldn't be too difficult.
I'm pretty sure I did close to a 20-lb bird this way two years ago. (If it wasn't 20, it was damn close). In fact, I spatchcocked two birds that year. One for the oven and one for the smoker (just in case....) Both were insanely good. I can't believe I didn't take any pictures of it that year.

Agreed. It does reduce the cooking time and I think it lends itself well to not drying out the bird.

Out for a drive this Thanksgiving morning with my two youngest just to see what’s open and closed. I’ve always posted and very open about places being open on Thanksgiving and all hours on Black Friday. For years it was out of control and corporations were greedy at the expense of their employees. Seems like Covid, corporations have come back to reality and actually pretend to care for their employees.
Open:
Cub - Both Cub’s we drove past, the lots where packed.
Perkins
Denny’s
McDonald’s
A barber shop - Why in the h. e. double hockey sticks is a barber shop open, unless I’m missing something?!?!?!
Closed:
Target
Walmart - Good for them and their employees.

My wife started a new job this past year at a grocery store. This is the 1st Thanksgiving either one of us had to work since we both worked at Blockbuster Video in the early 2000's. Her store and the gas station in town are the only places open. I am glad that retailers have backed off the craziness of being open on Thanksgiving or at midnight for Black Friday.
Props to Walmart for giving the self checkouts the holiday off. ?
